"KIDS WITH KNIVES" - a creepypasta-throwback mystery adventure!
Dreigonix posted a topic in Games in Progress
Kids With Knives is a simple-yet-elegant turn-based RPG taking inspiration from early-2010's creepypasta RPG Maker games. It's not really a horror game, but it incorporates spooky elements. It mostly makes use of stock assets and is fairly low-budget to replicate the homegrown amateurish aesthetic, with the emphasis on the story and gameplay. The game takes place within a single small town and its surrounding areas, which nevertheless constitute a surprisingly expansive, open, and explorable world with many secrets to find. Development is still in progress, but we are expecting to release a playable demo sometime in early 2022! No jumpscares, but content warning for animated blood and violent imagery and descriptions. You and your mom have just moved to the small Minnesota town of Pineshade in search of a new lease on life. For you, this means a new school, new friends, and an unfamiliar environment. Despite being a bit lonely at first, the lush wilderness around the town is ripe for indulging your drive for exploration, and soon you manage to make some friends whom you can drag along on your adventures. But as you begin to notice strange occurrences around the town, and unexplained disappearances are reported, the three of you soon realize the town holds a dark secret: numerous malevolent cryptids and monsters of folklore and urban legend, collectively known as Unfound. The grown-ups don't believe you when you tell them of the supernatural forces at work, and you can't simply let them destroy Pineshade Town... so you and your friends resolve yourselves to stopping the Unfound menace and their mysterious leader. The Player: An adventurous, strong-willed kid who lives alone with their mom, having recently moved to Pineshade Town from the city. The pragmatic Rogue of the group, they can get down and dirty in a fight, with stunning sucker-punches, handfuls of sand, and sneaky hit-and-run attacks all on the table. There is a certain untapped potential in them that could potentially lead to moveset diversification down the line... They carry a pocketknife. Luke: An introverted and somewhat cowardly boy who is nevertheless committed to helping his friends out of a jam. He is a genius tinkerer, able to build all kinds of gadgets to assist his friends in the war against the Unfound. Functionally the Mage of the group, he builds his expansive Tech skill arsenal not through leveling up but through crafting Tech Weapons. He carries a Swiss Army knife. Kiera: A very strange girl who seems to have her head in the clouds most of the time. Reclusive and socially-awkward, but still eager to make friends, she also seems to have a connection with the Unfound that has yet to be discovered. Kiera is the Warrior of the group, savagely attacking and maiming enemies with bloodthirsty abandon. She carries a kitchen knife. Shauna: A classmate of the Player, she is cheerful and studious, but tends to keep to herself. As things escalate, though, it starts to seem like she may have more of a stake in the fight than was previously thought... Shauna plays a support role to the main trio, providing situation reports and offering sidequests that can reward you with additional skills. Maria: The Player's mom. A dedicated parent through-and-through, Maria welcomes the Player's friends as if they were her own kids, giving the trio someone they can always turn to. Frank: Luke's dad, and Pineshade Town's trusted mechanic. Frank is a rough and hardened type who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty, and he tries his best to be supportive despite not always understanding everything. Mysterious Figure: This sinister being appeared in Pineshade Forest just before the Unfound began to make themselves known. What secrets are they hiding? The year is 2357. Humans have explored the stars and colonized many worlds under the authority of the Earth Systems Alliance (ESA), a government controlled by powerful interstellar organizations. An alliance in name only, it is in reality, a brutal empire. The Earth Systems Alliance (ESA) is embroiled in a civil war with a faction known as the Novus Federation. They are made up of former ESA colonists, corporations and military personnel who oppose Alliance rule and actively undermine ESA activities. Both sides have committed war crimes on civilian populations. This has destabilized the balance of power in the region, creating chaos. Tabula Rasa (Pre Demo Now available 12/25/14)
HalestormXV posted a topic in Archived Games -Projects that have been inactive for 12 months are stored here.
This is a post for "The Showroom" a working demo is not yet available. This is a free game that Nerd Storm Production (New Software Development Company) is working on. We currently have two games in development, one commercial and one free as well as the layout for a 3rd and 4th game. However the free one is called Tabula Rasa and here is the layout. Genre Fantasy, Adventure, Turn-based Plot: You are one of the few remaining "Sage Blades". Sage Blades are keepers in a sense and guardians of the worlds (with an s). You were kidnapped and as a precaution a self defense spell activated present in all Sage Blades that wiped your memory. You have no recollection of who you are. You are quickly met by a companion named Matias who was travelling with you when you were kidnapped. The universe of Tabula Rasa is based around these cards known as "Enigma Cards" and Enigma Card is the essence/spirit of various creatures that inhabit the universe and calling upon them allows you to invoke special effects in battle. Enigma Cards are commonly used by everyone. It is a method of survival short of weapons and armor. The Sage Blades are the only ones capable of bringing forth a Type B and Higher Enigma which can be devastating for the Universe of Tabula Rasa. You are a target and at the same time, trying to regain your lost memories scattered across the different worlds. The World: Tabula Rasa takes place in a universe not in a world. In Tabula Rasa there are special locations that have Ley Lines. These Ley Lines can only be accessed by a Sorcerer who can tap into them to open a portal to another parallel world within the Tabula Rasa Universe. These worlds may have characters that look similar or resemble characters you have already met but will not know who you are as they are unaware of the other worlds. The only ones with the knowledge of multiple worlds are the Jumpers. The Jumpers and Sage Blades and a select few other class of people. Jumpers are generally powerful Sorcerer's like Matias who may also be referred to as "World Hoppers." The jumpers are not as powerful as the Sage Blades, but the Sage Blades lack the ability to cross worlds. The worlds vary in timeframe. One world may be a medieval based world with a feudal system while another world may be a modern age world with technology, or you may cross into a futuristic world where technology is far advanced. Features: -High Resolution - Tabula Rasa utilizes the experimental, yet official, High Resolution dll. The game can be played on a variety of different Resolutions. You select your Resolution at the start of the game and can change it from the Title Screen at any time. Reports have said that Resolutions above 1024x640 may cause some errors with RPG Maker VX Ace not responding. I generally play test the game on 1344x768 and I have run into this error only twice. So that it is not totally confirmed but it is worth a mention. - Advanced Party system that will allow you to modify your party as you see fit. Different party members may have different skills that will aid you. Some party members specialize at something but you can only have 4 Party Members at one time, so you may need to switch members in and out. (IE. Matias and World Hopping) - Card Based Battle System - Engima Cards are the form of combat in Tabula Rasa. It is turn based combat. There are very few skills in Tabula Rasa. Most skills are based on the Enigma Cards. The Enigma Cards are found, purchased, traded, etc. The Engima Cards you have go into your card collection. It is up to you to build a Deck to go into battle with. The Deck can contain a maximum of 50 cards and certain cards are restricted and may only allow you to have 1 or 2 of them in one deck. Each party member has 1 deck and you all share the same collection. The cards do not take up inventory space and stored separately. some of the cards can only be found in a certain type of world. (Gotta Collect Em All! Enigma Cards!) - Inventory Restrictions - each party member is only allowed to hold a certain amount of items which combine to create a maximum inventory. At the start of the game you are restricted to 200 inventory slots. - Storage System - as there is an inventory restriction there is also an "Engima Storage System." The engima storage system are certain places in the different worlds that work under the front of being a "bank." However the employees are all World Hoppers or "World Travelers." World Travelers do not have the ability to jump but they are simply adventures who may commission a Jumper to travel the different worlds. The Enigma Storage System allows you to store your items and access them across the various Worlds in the Tabula Rasa Universe. - Various Other Features, Too Much to Name - there are a ton of other features that are too large in number to name or this post would never end. There is a Bestiary System, there is day and night cycle, a lighting system, a dynamic enemies system so enemies level up with you, there are a number of hidden secrets, there is some voice acting, there is just so much to name that I am probably forgetting a huge amount. The Prologue: http://imgur.com/a/xmK6g#0 (Yes it is in order, read it from left to right unlike tradition Manga) Some Screenshots: Video Snippet Characters Hero - You select your own name Matias - Your companion in the journey to help you regain your memories Various other characters who have not yet been named since this game is still in its early stages Credits Oh boy, this is going to be a huge list. I will put it in spoiler tags. Note Please Note at the end of the video snippet - where i showcase the resolution changes, the only reason the picture looks disfigured is because I haven't yet adjusted the settings to fit the resolution. It has nothing to do with the scripts or with the High Resolution .dll Feedback Please share your thoughts and comments with me. This project is in its infant stages. But I plan to have a working demo soon once I finish up the first mini dungeon. Demo (12/25/14) http://nerdstormproduction.com/downloads/Tabula_Rasa.zip- 1 reply

Tutorial Town full release
Redweaver posted a topic in Archived Games -Projects that have been inactive for 12 months are stored here.
A classic fantasy turn-based RPG created on video Full Installer Package DOWNLOAD LINK If you have the VX Ace RTP or editor already installed LITE VERSION WITHOUT RTP NOW AVAILABLE ON THE STEAM WORKSHOP! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=232438845 Hello, friends, and welcome to Tutorial Town v1.01! This is a game created as a teaching tool for beginners utilizing nothing but the default product out of the box. I recorded the creation of this game as a video tutorial series for YouTube and hundreds of people have already enjoyed learning with me. Genre: Tutorial Town is a classically-styled turn-based fantasy RPG with a simple, timeless story. Game Progression: The story is entirely completable with roughly 3-4 hours of gameplay, and the game is now at a point of polishing, bug-fixing, and optional additions, such as more mini-games and side quests. Features include a working clock and calendar, slot machine, class trainers, several different types of sidequests, puzzles and many cutscenes. Story / Setting / Purpose: Greenfar Island has been a quiet place for hundreds of years, but lately the creatures have been acting scared and aggressive. Something has them stirred up. And the orcs have been seen outside of their home in Gob-rox cave, harassing travellers and attacking families as though looking for someone. It soon becomes clear that an evil plan is afoot! Can you stop the mysterious cloaked figure from fulfilling his nefarious plans? Many hazards stand in your way. Will you be able to overcome? Character Bios: There is only a single main character: the one you make. You start off as the teen child of the Mayor of Tutorial Town, a peaceful village in the wooded foothills of the Highrock Mountains, with a loving family and friendly neighbors. You have full freedom to create a character of either gender with a selection of classes. Features: All features and systems can be seen in great detail in the video series meant to accompany this game. There is a forum topic containing all the videos which can be located here, and I'll also put the first video of the series below. It is highly recommended that you play through the game before watching the series if you wish to get full enjoyment of the story. Feedback is always welcome in any of the several places where this series is discussed. Links to the "lite" versions of the .exe meant for the editor can be found in the descriptions of each video after the fourth with the most recent video, of course, containing the most recent iteration of the small file. *WARNING* The following video and all others in the series contain major spoilers *WARNING* Alternate Download If the download link provided above isn't working, try this one: Alternate Link Please, only use this link if the one above will not work for you. By using the main download link, you allow me to track the number of times the file has been downloaded, which I find to be an important (or at least interesting) metric. Credits: This game was created utilizing the default product and nothing else. No scripts. No outside artwork or music. Not even the ReStaff Resources. Thanks to: Enterbrain and the RPG Maker staff for great products over the years. My wife for understanding and encouragement. Adon for inspiring visible encounters. Onyxtanuki for playtesting and feedback above and beyond the call of duty. Torencresent for suggesting save points. Everyone who has watched and commented along the way here, on Steam and on YouTube. AND YOU! Thanks for playing Tutorial Town!- 10 replies

This is my first game and I made it with the VX Ace version of the RPG Maker software. It's nothing terribly new or special or innovative, but it's been a great learning experience making it. I'm hoping over time to mold and morph this further into a more polished and complete game so I'm posting here in the hopes of getting one or two people willing to play it a couple hours and tell me what they think. No scripts were used in the making of this game so I'm sure many of you will find it pretty boring, sorry. The entire game is a heavily edited and customized, but default RTP product. I'm including in the word "default" the various official downloads I've found, such as those from the ~ Resource Staff Resources! ~ thread from the official site's forums. All the eventing and such was done by me. - Story Synopsis: The female main character you create at the beginning of the game is a teenage ward of the state under the care of Eric, Swordmaster of Hawkstone Keep. Strange dreams plague you during a training hunt which (hopefully) draw you into a wide world full of adventure. Who or what is this imprisoned being that calls out to you? Why do you find yourself hunted by vicious creatures? Discover the secrets of an ancient otherworldly war and learn why your destiny lies at it's heart. - World Development: A vast world map with many different environments, dungeons and areas of mystery. You'll travel to the four corners of the globe and beyond hunting elder magics and powerful weapons. Fishing, side quests, puzzles and a functional clock/calendar with various timed events round out the experience. - Screenshots: Youtube video showing early game footage here: -Game download link: Newest version 0.5.4 release 7 August 2013: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ji0g6ez1g1hp3ua/LegendofAncientsv0.5.4.exe Small version if you already have RPG Maker VX ACE (stable): http://www.mediafire.com/download/oa10glo7a3shmb9/LegendofAncientsSmallv0.5.4.exe Google Drive link to small file backup with frequent updates (working back-up / alpha). https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B1mYcSSR7dRuSmVRRWg0S2ZEdkU Feel free to tell me what you think of it or if you find any bugs or issues (other than obviously unfinished stuff). I'm eager to know how combat against the mobs at various levels feels and how fun the classes are to play. - Character bios: Early characters who are willing to join you on your quest include: Corwin, Eric's other student. He's a young Spellblade with a great potential, but not much experience. Xavier, a brilliant but absent-minded mage. His master, Xerxes may come to know much about your fate if you can save him in time. Blaze, a hot-headed rogue with a heart of gold. He says he's loyal to the end but does he have his own agenda? - Credits Section: Thanks to - SomaelCK, Dorian Tokici, and Hesufo for early playtesting and amazing feedback Adon for inspiring the on-map encounters The RPG Maker Community for being awesome and helpful Enterbrain and the entire RPG Maker staff for such amazing products over the years AND YOU! Thank you for playing my game! Please tell me if this post is in some way insufficient or doesn't meet the requirements of this forum or belongs in a different forum. Feedback welcome. Found and fixed a game-halting bug with an early boss. I had set it to be immune to the death state thinking that would make it immune to insta-death effects. Actually it made it immune to death, even from damage dealt. Lesson learned. I'll have to make bosses immune to specific skills on a case by case basis from now on unless I find a better way. All classes are now reasonably fleshed out and playable up to 30th level or so. Will take a while to fine tune costs and levels skills are granted at and ultimately I want to take them all to level 100. If anyone is interested in playing this. The game is incomplete, but there's around 20 - 30 hours of playtime and I'm happy to answer questions about how I did it. Version History The To Do List Common Event based weather system that turns off indoors and integrates with the clock. Event-based method of swapping characters in and out of your party at an adventurers guild. Add gender selection to character creation (and the facemaker/spritemaker if it's possible). General renaming of stuff in the database. More mini-games and puzzles. Replace all instances of premade maps with my own. Finish the world map including all towns and NPCs. Who knows what else.
