OneCutStudio posted a topic in Developing Tools
Welcome to One Cut Studio's PIXEL DOJO Please take your shoes off at the door. In martial arts, the dojo is the training hall where the martial artists learn and practice their techniques. The goal of my pixel dojo is very similar. I will be posting tutorials here for you all to read and hopefully learn from. Even though this is the pixel dojo, I still may post tutorials about other topics as well. I hope you find my tutorials useful, easy to understand, and helpful. Show your support for the Pixel Dojo by adding the following into your signature: Tutorial 1: Spriting from Scratch (No Gens./Templates) Tutorial 2: Sprite Sheet Fundamentals in RMVXAce Tutorial 3: Animating Your Sprite to Walk Around Tutorial 4: Simple Evented Animations Tutorial 5: Creating a "Fallen" sprite from a Pre-Gen. I recently acquired a copy of MV and have to start learning coding from scratch after I got used to RGSS3. From what I interpreted from other scripts, the structure is maybe the same but the names and language is different. But are there any tutorials or sites best suited for teaching this from the ground up? I made some custom scripts in VX Ace and I'm interested in writing some of them down in MV in-between stumps with the one I'm making right now. Or whose scripts have a lot of descriptions regarding their functions? Just so I can ween knowledge off of those.

Good morning! Good night! Good anything-in-between! It's me, Tsarmina, back again with her lab goggles and chemical explosive reactions. I feel that my Laboratory has been relatively successful, and I thought I'd spread the love, science, and art by starting a mini-lab for all you budding interns out there ^-^ I can't have you working in my lab though--it's too dangerous! So you guys get a mini-lab instead. You can explode as much stuff here as you want, because it's all for your practice! I'll be posting everything I can think of helpful-wise here--art tutorials (if you want to draw like me), Photoshop and Corel guides, VX Ace step-by-step tuts, and tidbits from the depths of my crazy mind. Anything for you guys~ <3 1. The Bare Bones of VXA 2. Tilesets Minilab 3. Static Opening Cutscenes! *customizable 4. Turning to Watch 1. Hair Colors 2. I'm Watching You: Eyes 11/27/13: The Mini-Lab is open for all scientists! <3 Also have 1. Bare Bones open, but it's like...baby steps. 11/28/13: Second tutorial is added ^-^ Just a mini tileset lab. 12/04/13: Art Materials requirements added. 12/11/13: More tutorials! I'm so happy ^-^ 01/02/14: The FIRST art tut 01/08/14: I'm Watching You!!! Support me!

When most people download an RPG maker game, it's likely that they already know the basics of RPGs so having to go through the basic redundant "HP is your health and you die if it reaches zero." is often unnecessary and can make the player become bored very quickly. (it's even worse when games don't have a "skip tutorial" button) on the other hand, there are people who are unfamiliar with RPGs and might need more help understanding gameplay mechanics. Plus, some games have custom systems when it comes to handling combat, skills, classes, etc. what are some ways that you guys handle tutorials so that the players know everything they need to know, while still keeping things interesting for them?

UPDATE: Currently not taking any more requests. I have 3 games to catch up on, but current lifetime events take precedence, and the 'coming soon' release of Inwards demo. I'll be taking more once I chip away 1-2 of the games on the short list. ------------------------------------- So, now I'm doing Reviews and Tutorials on my new YouTube account, and should I managed to fix the lag/delay issue with Twitch, I will occasionally livestream as well. This time I've started with Legionwood: A Tale of Two Swords (I didn't even realize this was the example in the Rules/Guidelines when I began the video... ) by Dark Gaia to whet the appetite, and I've also played/recorded Project X by Tahara. IMO, my Project X video has funnier moments in it, but I won't release it until I've got the author's go-ahead since it is still alpha. I will also take requests, but we'll get to that (scroll down). LET'S PLAY! LIST! ------------------------------------------------------------ FULL REVIEW! LIST! ------------------------------------------------------------ TUTORIAL! LIST! ------------------------------------------------------------ REQUESTS! If you would like to have your demo or full game reviewed or simply played, PM me or leave a message here. I can and will do Let's Plays of RPG Makers not VXA, but please provide a link to them. They'll end up in my YouTube channel one way or another. A review is different from a Let's Play--when reviewing, I will focus mainly on critiquing and acknowledging the game's mechanics and story. Also, level design, character design, originality and/or creativity, technical skill (both with RPG Maker and basic skills like spelling/grammar). When doing a Let's Play, it's pretty much for fun and enjoyment, though I will point out things I do an do not enjoy. And last but not least, if you yourself have anything to say about my Let's Play channel or questions/comments, feel free to contact me via my YouTube channel or PM me here. In this upcoming tutorial I explain how to create an enemy that's visible on the map. This should help stop all the games that are coming out with those annoying random battles! >_<
