    Dark Dithering

An adventure game based in Hell, you are Murray, an unlucky skeleton that need to find out how to remove his curse. A game design like Zelda, funny dialogs like Monkey island, and an atmosphere like Ghost & Goblins, this is Dark Dithering. An old school game, pixel art and hand drawing animation. Follow me: Facebook | Youtube | Website Developement Progress | Story90% - Programming 85% - Soundtrack 30% - Graphic 40% A demo is coming soon! Then hope you support us in future when we are ready on steam and crowdfunding ! StayUpdate! Intro: My intention is to create a modern parody in a comic set in hell, between the current and the main elements of today's communication, during our adventure, we can access Deadbook, the social network for the dead directly from our menu, make friendships with the most curious characters of hell, participate in miniquest in the form of events, and buy directly online, from the ecommerce in hell, like "Deadzone". Deadbook It will also be very useful in terms of game design, to solve puzzles and discover the many secrets inside the Dark Dithering world. It all starts with a great love story, which unfortunately ends up in a bad way, our hero, willing to do anything to get his beloved, releases a terrible demon that instead of helping him, inflicts a curse to Murray, his girlfriend becomes a stalker, and he is surrounded by misfortune.... The way to remove the curse and heal his beloved, will be very long and tiring, also you never know what is behind the corners of hell... Murray Moray: After taking a curse, his girlfriend has become a stalker, and the unfortunate Murray has been hit by misfortune... Fiama Belmont: Because of the curse of Murray, Fiamma has become intractable, jealous, obsessive, and poor Murray had to flee the house, and seek refuge by his friend Karma. Karma: Karma is a karmeleon, unlike chameleons that change color based on where they land, the karmeleon change color according to the Karma and mood. It will be very useful to have a friend like him, to prevent and understand when there are times of danger. Opening Video Gameplay Video 1 Any feedback and suggestions are apprecciated! 4. I was thinking about what "Fantasy" as a setting/genre actually means to me and why I would include some works and not include others. In my mind there are roughly five types of fiction: Realist, Speculative, Fantasy, Metafictional, and Surrealist. They can be thought of as a scale from most grounded in reality to least, but the lines are not always that clear cut. Realist fiction covers stories that are explicitly set in a world that is identical to "real life", or at least a world that differs form real life in ways that can be fully explained by a little artistic license or a lack of research. Speculative fiction means it is set in a world that is assumed to be like real life except when it's explicitly not. Fantasy means the world operates on very different metaphysical rules and diverges sharply with anything that can be thought of as realistic. Metafictional fiction means the story is it's self about and based of the rules of a story. Surrealist fiction means there are hardly any rules and most things are purely symbolic, random, and/or just look cool. There is overlap between these categories of course, but for the most part a lot of things labeled "fantasy" can fit snugly in other categories. A lot of fantasy I would count as more speculative or just surreal. It's a hard balance to make sometimes. Too over the top and nonsensical and it seems more like surrealist fiction. Too grounded in reality and focusing on building a realistic world with some odd elements that change things up and it seems more like speculative fiction. Also, to me there is a difference from plain old fantasy and real capital F "Fantasy". Real capital F "Fantasy" means a setting that is based around the "fantastical". The classic example of "Fantasy" is the works of J. R. R. Tolkien such as The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. However, I don't really think most of his imitators really fall into capital F "Fantasy". Why? Because they tend to stick with a set formula. Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs do not make a story into capital F "Fantasy". Tolkien included and defined Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs as fantastical and original elements in his stories without any common formula to fall back on, even if they were named based on myths. The element of the fantastical requires a lack of formulas and preexisting rules. Oddly another good example of real capital F "Fantasy" that I can think of is The Legend of Zelda. Now you may at first glace think it's just another Tolkien rip off, but it's really not (or if it is, the cultural barrier between the English book and the Japanese game creators has introduced enough originality to offset it). All of the races and monsters are vastly different, the way the world works is quite unique, and even as far back as the original game the setting seemed just a bit more fantastical then Generic RPG World 452. I guess the Final Fantasy series counts too, but it seemed to me to barely introduce more then a handful of original interesting elements before veering hard into over the top sci-fi surrealism so fast that I am not sure what it can be counted as now. What do you guys think? I was gonna post this as a blog but I think I would like to see some discussions about it, because I am not sure if my way is the best way to look at it or not. After all, I am always saying how much I hate to use formulas or lump things willy nilly together, but I thought I would talk about how I tend to see it.
  5. I'm trying to figure out how to do a Zelda ALTTP styled 2 color crystal block switch puzzle, and was wondering how I might go about it with eventing? Say I have a room full of blue and orange blocks, and two crystals to get to the exit. How would I go about setting up the crystals to sync and the blocks to sync with the crystals? Any help would be immensely appreciated.

    Project: SANCTION

My game company, cHAOStudios, recently revealed our first project, currently titled "SANCTION" (working title). We are trying to build a fan base before we set the project up for crowdfunding, and I thought posting something here might be a good place to start! Here is the information we have revealed about the project so far: You can check the project out on Facebook, where we have posted images and other such things! Thanks so much! ~Josh
  7. Hi all. I'm wanting to make an Ys or Legend of Zelda-esque game with RPG Maker VX Ace this time around, and I wanted to know if it was possible to do. If so, how difficult is it, and is the end result something that is satisfying to play? I'm thinking of a system that would enable leveling up, or go straight Zelda and have enemies merely as obstacles for the player to overcome. Also, is it possible to have larger sprites as bosses in this kind of game where all of the action takes place on a field/dungeon map and not a battle menu like a typical RPG? Also, are there any demos, finished games, or examples to look at from the community? Thanks, everyone!
  8. Zelda-Like Item System from Ocarina Of Time This is a tutorial that I made for merdouille44 on this thread. I wasn't sure if this would be beginner or intermediate. It requires a little bit of knowledge on how to set up the system, but it is not too difficult overall. The Graphics The first thing you need to do is make the HUD Interface. For me, I just tried to mimic the Ocarina interface. You can use mine if you'd like, but I'm not the best when it comes to making graphics. To make this simple, I am using the Q, W, and A buttons to use each item. Next, we need to have the items. I just exported the ACE icon set and then grabbed what items I will have for my game. For this tutorial, I'm just using two items, but you can add as many as you'd like. I chose the letter and the potion. Now, import all these graphics into your pictures folder. Getting the HUD Working Now we are ready to get the HUD working in game. First, go to the common events tab and make a new common event. Set the trigger to parallel process and then create a switch and call it Zelda_HUD. Now, the first thing you do in this common event is make a conditional branch. If the Zelda HUD is on, we are going to have the hud graphic show up. Else erase the picture. I set this up so you can turn on the HUD easily during cut scenes or if you want to have the player press a button to turn off the system at will. This is what your common event should look like so far: Next, we need to have the items show up. You are going to make a variable for each item. For mine, they will be called Zelda_Potion and Zelda_Letter. Each variable is going to be linked to the Q, W, and A button. This is how I am setting mine up: 1 = Q 2 = W 3 = A Make a conditional branch and have it set if Zelda_Potion = 1. In the else statement, you will have if Zelda_Potion = 2, and in that else statement, make it so it is Zelda_Potion = 3. The last one will be Zelda_Potion = 0. In that one, you do not need to check the else statement, and you will put Erase Picture. This is how yours should look: Now, we need to make sure that when we have one item set, for example, to Q that another item cannot be used in the Q slot. To do this, we need to make another conditional branch and have it as Zelda_Letter = 1. In the else statement, you put the image of the potion. Do this for all the branches we just made except for the Zelda_Potion = 0. Here is how it should look: Now you need to do the same thing for the letter. Now the images will not overlap one another. If you have more than two items, just follow the same layout as above. You will have to do this for every item you want to use. Now we are done with the hud! Making the System Work Now it's onto the last part. We need to make the system actually do something. Since I am using the Q, W, and A buttons in game, I will be focusing on the L, R, and X buttons in the interface. Q = L W = R X = A Now, make a conditional branch to where if the L button is pressed. You do not click the Else statement. Inside that, you make it that if Zelda_Potion is = 1, then you drink the potion. For me, I just added a text saying I drank the potion and then erasing the icon from the HUD, leaving the Q button empty again. You can replace it with an empty bottle and have it do whatever effect you would like. In that else statement, you will have it so if Zelda_Letter = 1, then it will do that interaction. For me, I just put a text saying that this is Zelda's letter. You will do this for all the buttons. Just remember to change the variables accordingly. Here is how mine looks: And that is everything! You have now created a 100% item system just like the one in Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.

    Pandemonium entry 1

Hi this is my first blog entrie so don't be to harsh I have been working on a game called pandemonium that uses xas (love that script). I have had a lot of probs getting active members to join the team so for the moment I have 2 righters. Sad cos I also need that auther parts(mapping, evening, spiriting and music) but lets hope that I will get some new recruits in a near future For the moment the first town is total made there are around 8 quests and 9 different monsters. For the skills there are around 30 for the player but I will need to rethink how he obtains then as I had given him the Luna skill tree that realized was incompatible with XAS As I am on vacation I will be able to make a lot more for the game. Just today I finished making the roung mapping of the first dungeon all that is left to do is a add a bit of decorations and monster and it reedy to go For those how are unfamiliar with this project here is a link to a demo http://www.mediafire.com/download/mw1sf0t7tpb92ls/demo_v3.zip there are a few missing dialogues so the main part is still in work. If it goes well the dungeon will be finished by tonight and then I will concentrate en the dialogues. Try out the demo and give me any feedback you may have or even advise some songs as I am use to playing games on mute I really have no idea what to add
