SolarPhantom 29 Posted April 4, 2013 (edited) 28bones... your working small scale bud. you got to remember, this world is changed from, i like the story of this game, to i like better graphics. and for those of u haveing small 3D games, well duh, ps1 and ps2 games are small, download, gta vi, phantasy star, or any other game that people like graphics, and LoL is my smallest 3D game at 4.8 gigs. i have animations that i have made frame by frame, and it takes about 1 hour to get through 300-400, trust me making 3D may sound fun, but you need the right mind set, and few, i mean very few have that mind set, and me, i dont have the time, since my last animation took me a month because i worked on it maybe 10-15 minutes a day. you guys need to realize this also, how expensive do you want the next rpg maker to be. i for one dont want to have to buy a $200 or more rpg maker. and one other thing, were are you going to get a good team to help you? i mean 4 or 5 people is not enough. and skylar, you need to realize that 90% of those that think they would do well, give up really fast, out of all my friends that wanted to make games, only me and my cousin are left. I do not want to see a huge community of game makers just stop because of how hard it can be. that's why im sticking to 2D until i get a job. also look at the script and eventing requests, how many people do you think will give up because their request doesn't get filled, because for some, this rpgmaker isn't about endless work, its about time on the weekend and no dont need experience coding, i mean i even use this just to relax, yes i got a lot of spriting to do, but that's fun, and making 3D models i cant relax cause of all the polygons and if you mess up its quite frustrating, a sprite is, "ohh, messed up, *pick new color*, there all better" most that use rpg maker use it for convenience not for how long it takes to do stuff. and i, for one, do not want to take that from the ones who cant code, cant draw well, ect. if you seriously want a 3D rpg maker, just use dark basic or unity. and yes it is like 20 times long to make a 3D character than to sprite, i can do about 20 sprites sheets in an hour, if its movment only Edited April 4, 2013 by SolarPhantom
Skylar1146 11 Posted April 5, 2013 Well in a nutshell what were asking for is a simplified 3d engine, with lots of tools built in to make it easy and an eventing system. @ solarphantom I really don't see how it can take that long to make an animation unless it was like I octopus with tentacles flailing about . For my animation I had a ninja jumping all over the place and slice a bunch of bamboo to pieces and it took me about 2 and a half hours to animate it all. And I for one think 3D games can tell a story better than a 2D because it's easier to realize a game world. It really just depends on the game though. But your right the world were in today is all about graphics and no longer the story. Its a shame really, an interactive story is what games are necessarily. To be frank I bet the amount of people who actually develop a good game compared to the amount of people who buy rpg maker is a very small percent. I do not want to see a huge community of game makers just stop because of how hard it can be. If the community was committed, they wouldn't leave. Creating a 3D game isnt really that hard(like using the engine in general) if the engine is good. It may take more time but I think it is worth it in the end. Tsukihime 1,489 Posted April 5, 2013 ...simplified 3d engine, with lots of tools built in to make it easy and an eventing system......sounds like unity???
mihai_7 0 Posted April 15, 2013 So does Unity really have an eventing system? I had Unity free version and couldn't manage to do any "event" with it.
amerk 1,122 Posted April 16, 2013 I'm not really sure, but a lot of makers outside of RM will generally require programming knowledge, and require you to code in the majority of your events. If you're looking for quick and simple, you're probably not going to find it with Unity.
Naridar 9 Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) I don't know of any "quick and simple" 3D game makers. There's RPG maker which is 2D, there are mods for many 3D games (Elder scrolls, fallout, legend of grimrock) but when you want to make an original 3D game, you'll have to use a real 3D engine like Unity or Unreal. Dark Basic's optimization quality just doesn't cut it, and it also requires programming. Unity, on the other hand, has a few "starter kits", including one for a typical JRPG. I believe Mark Leung's game "Revenge of the bitch" (mods please don't bite for this one, it's the official name of the game) uses a modified version of that. From what I've seen, it has eventing as a feature, though I don't know how usuable it is (due to time/return rate, I'd say don't go 3D unless you have a small team who you're working with). EDIT: Sorry, Mark Leung's game was made with the Torque 3D engine. The engine itself seems more user-friendly than Unreal, and about the same as Unity. Might be worth checking out if one's interested in 3D development. It also supports a C++ like scripting language of its' own. aceofbase 0 Posted May 5, 2013 (edited) If you are looking for a 3d-ish maker look at 3d rpg editor over at rpgcrisis.net, they translate all these rare makers and it suppose to make games that look like older jpgs like saga frontier or breath of fire 4 Edited May 5, 2013 by aceofbase
