Well, it's RTP is included for those who don't have the basic RPG maker, so it does have to be a bit on the larger side.

Appreciate you giving it a go anyway :)

Have fun with it!

Well, the Beta is pretty much the final thing. The only thing missing is the placeholder artwork, and perhaps a few cutscenes. But story and gameplay-wise, it's done.

Not at the moment. Coats was my first. But I have plans for future games!

Thanks, it's just me. The teeth are not photoshopped.

could you give link with no rtp for people who have it :D.

Sorry, no. Don't want to confuse people with two download links. Just get the one with the RTP, it's not that big a deal ;)

So, right now things are moving pretty slow. A new update will show up once I get some new illustrations to add. Until then, here's what's going on right now.

- I just entered a game called "Veggie Stand" into the RPG Maker Fall Festival Contest. I'll provide a link for it or maybe it's own topic once the contest is over. Be excited!

- I'm currently in the planning stages of my upcoming project. I won't spoil it too much, but it's gonna be awesome. I'm currently making a proper GDD and assembling a team.

So... lots of stuff going on. I'm still keeping a close eye on Coats and double checking all feedback, but a problem with feedback at this stage is that some people are suggesting radical changes that would force me to remake large portions of the game - something I'm not capable of doing right now. The work/payoff ratio is simply not big enough for me to invest in radical changes.

To round off this update I wanted to show off our lovely intro screen for "Veggie Stand"!

Hey, this is really great. I finished playing this today. I <3 this game.

Frustrating as all heck sometimes, since when I'm not dying I'm making the wrong choices, but that's easily recified by save spamming :3

Also, there are some minor glitches, but nothing broke the game at all. I did PACK my external facility with mutant skins. Apparently all I had to do was keep clicking where they had been after they disappeared. Got, like, five of them that way before I filled up my pens. Not sure if you're aware of that one. Lol, it did make that last part of the game easier!

I <3 Kendal. Don't know why. Just do. Good job.

I did notice that you're using a lot of stock music. I'd love to write a tune or two to show my appreication, with your blessing of course. Nothing concrete but I have an off day tomorrow and I figured I'd try to repay you for igniting my interest in playing video games for the story again!

Here's a small update for those following our progress:

- New illustrations are incoming. There will be several new illustrations for the next update of Coats. We're looking at a December update and moving out of Beta in March.

- We're releasing our entry for the Fall Festival contest. It's now available for download here. We also have a thread about it.

Sorry, no. Don't want to confuse people with two download links. Just get the one with the RTP, it's not that big a deal ;)

it's just my connection is not that fast and reliable you know. not to mention it PAY by MB. so it's HUGE deal for me. :D.

so extra mb reduction (from RTP) would be helpful. i'm still hesitating to try this game because of that :D.

and another reason... since here is RPG maker community. most people expected to have RTP installed anyway.

you could put only ONE link without RTP. and give link to RTP installer for those FEW people that don't have them.

hope you reconsider it.

your game look good and polished. just hope i can play it :D.

I didn't consider people still paying by the mb. I thought we had gone past that age o_o

Well, if that's the case, I guess the size still matters. So here ya go, the game without the RTP (ca 140mb).

thank you pal... :D.

yeah... in my country there's still internet connection that pay by mb and there's connection that have quota (after certain 1Gb/2Gb/3Gb depending the price we paid... it will become 64kbps or lower. i remember using it and download at below 10kbps!!!). there also connection that pay by hours... it's usually faster. but since it's by hours...

of course there's unlimited connection too (no quota, flat price, anytime). but the price is quite high.

once again thank you for your consideration :D.

DECEMBER UPDATE!

- Several new illustrations!

- Phase Two: Traps have been improved

- Phase Two: Added a threshold value, overall lowering the chance of a massive attack

- Fixed some minor dialogue issues

That's it for now. We're looking to get out of the Beta and having the game officially done by March, at this rate. That's when most of the illustrations are done and we've done enough bugfixing.

By then, we should also have gotten a bit into our next, upcoming project - more about that later, but I can tell you it's gonna be awesome.

this game really addicting :D. played until 3 am yesterday...

don't read the spoiler for people that haven't play it

- opening scene is really good. not too creepy and give huge impact on people seeing it.

- i like the character sleep image and then show the progress text concept. it really epic the sound used also give nice feel...

- use of image and moving it a little really add cinematics to research :D. and OMG those bloody hand mark on the wall...

- i only read some skin research progress. and it really nice and make sense. like skins don't have eyelids thus have bad eyesight. loved them so much.

- the autopsy image is quite good. but i think when the skin dies it become infective... won't the main chara got infected? he only wear gloves and mask. the face could still get in touch with the blood (or skin tissue), his upper arm could too... maybe need to change the image with better protection... although it's more epic to do autopsy without protection like that. it's like a daredevil :D.

- the mustache cup when doing report is epic. :D.

and finally the one i like the most

- man.. the DJ jeff from radio station is really good concept. but i guess he will die in the end while broadcasting his death maybe??? (it will creeps hearing someone broadcast something like... "just now the skins manage to enter the building by digging hole below the wall... we're outnumbered... i don't think we'll manage to leave this alive... soon they'll come to this room... this will be my last broadcast... good bye.... and good luck wherever you are... AARRRGGHHH (scream or something).... static noise...").

I'm glad you're enjoying the game!

Spoilers ahead!

-Thank you. I had some problem with the opening scene being kind of long, but I find it necessary.

-It took several iterations to get where it is. You wouldn't recognize that scene and how it looked in the beginning, it's changed a lot :)

-Well, blood is a very real product of the lives they lead!

-I spent a lot of time on that, actually. I wanted the Skins to be a monster that differs from others. Not just another zombie clone, they're unique in many ways. I have a huge file on them.

-Well, I thought about that as well, but the thing is, such protection just isn't available. So instead I figure they can only infect through the air if you're in an isolated room and for prolonged periods of time. With proper ventilation and breathing apparatus, the chance of infection is minimal. Still, I agree, there is a small chance. Randal (the main character) is quite reckless!

-I have a fantastic illustrator with plenty of good ideas.

-You might be surprised! I won't spoil what's going to happen to him, but I can tell you this - there's a secret unlockable character during Phase Two of the game that tells more of the story of the radio station. But I won't spoil it ;)

just reach phase two... but thinking or restarting over.

the scavenger guy didn't want to join me even when i choose Anger, Reason, or Accept. maybe i screw up in phase one??

btw NICE battle concept.

although there's a little bug...

at start of phase two... my party is MC, lissa, Janice.

and when i spam 'shoot leg'(the third option forgot what it called). eventually it will reduce the enemy speed to 1%. then Janice special power will activate making it -3% speed (sometimes -4% speed). which make the enemy lose range.

85% -> 88%.

practically unbeatable.

Actually, he won't come with you no matter what you choose. As you can see by reading into the conversation between him and Randal, he's already made up his mind. The choices are simply how you react to him not joining you - a decision that, in itself, will determine future events.

I am aware of this bug, but it is so minor that I decided to let it pass. It's still not the best tactics for dealing with the Skins, since the Skins recouperate exponentially faster.

I'd suggest something like... Take Aim -> High Fire (1-3 times) to start out with. After that, it's pretty dynamic.

Still, you gotta use the tactics most suited to the party. The party members differ for each playthrough and require different tactics.

However, this battle system is only a minor part of Phase 2. It's just a transient system, in a way. Just to kick things up a notch and get the player something new to play with for a bit.

don't read the spoiler if not playing this super awesome game yet :D.

so he won't join in any case... ouch... too bad.... i like that guy... :D. he's cool. imagine sneaking outside on horde of skins and scavenge food.. ALONE!!.

that's really bad ass :D.

oh yeah... is there time limit to phase one? example after certain day... game over or something? just curious.

also... can you tell me which other character from phase one that i cannot recruited in any way. so i don't get burdened by it :D.

the battle system for play in phase two... it's really refreshing :D. good job. and i think the battle system is evented... am i right?

also the lady with burned face. i smell something good in that... evolved skins ? :D. wait... i change my mind...  don't spoil me... i'll find it out myself :D.

btw this demo already finished the story or not? the story got me curious. :D. or there's still another phase? (this demo up to phase 2 or 3?)

oh yeah... i remember... there's a passability problem in one of the house in the town in second phase (where the scavenger guy don't want to join me T.T)...

it's the house with plants (upper right). we can walk over the guns on the wall.

btw veggie stand looks good. i would love to play it too :D. any link? :D.

Well, I won't spoil anything, but Miguel is not out of the picture completely. He's just taking some time off. You'll see ;)

There's no official time limit, but the difficulty increases. So after a while, you just can't continue.

Oh, wow... there's several characters that can only be found in Phase one. Each time you were confronted by the "send soldiers here or there" event, you gotta pick one out of two possible characters. There are also several secret characters, available if you complete special events.

Yeah, there is a limited number of battles available. They're mostly evented, but not completely. There's always a random element, but the location of the battles are determined.

Well, she's a complicated character. You'll see a lot more of her.

The game is only a "demo" in the way that there are still placeholders to replace in the illustration department. However, the story itself is completely finished. The entire game is available (in that demo) from beginning to end. Three phases in total.

I'll look into it. I thought I fixed all those, but there's always more >_>

Sure, I made a thread about it -> http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/20863-veggie-stand-fall-festival-game/

As we're nearing the completion of COATS, there's already plans for future projects.

We're going to be needing a second illustrator on our next project, mainly for work with animated cutscenes.

I will personally be doing animation, but an illustrator is needed for the actual artwork to be animated.

If you or anyone you know would be interesting in taking part of a project even bigger than COATS, send me a PM (preferably with samples or links to such).

There might also be room for a sprite artist. Again, samples are great.

In both cases, there might be some monetary compensation. How much, and to what degree, is still to be determined depending on the reception of our pitch.

It won't be enough to work full-time, but it might be enough to pay an extra month of rent. All depends on the reception. Might also be nothing. Again, PM me for details!

Needless to say, our next project is more ambitious, and we're aiming to actually commercialize it properly.

14/2 - Happy Valentine's Day, everyone. Hope you're having a wonderful time. I'm building a pillow fort and wallowing in self loathing.

So! We're still looking for a pixel artist for our upcoming project!

What else... we're still working on the final illustrations for Coats. When we're finished with the final polish (somewhere around March/April) Coats will be brought down from public download. This is because we're going to market it as a Steam Greenlight project. So if you're curious about the game - play it in Beta while you can!

Just to prove we're still around - We're finishing up the last 5 illustrations. After that, we're done, and Coats will be released as a full game (non-beta). Exciting, isn't it?
