Horse Fantasy II Demo

Genre: Fantasy RPG, linear story

Game Progress: The first two chapters are up and running. There is about 5 hours of gameplay finished in this demo.

Story:

Four youngsters run away from school only to find themselves swept up in history. The times are changing as industrialization really starts to take off--factories are springing up in every major city and rail lines are being laid across the continent. A major war is looming with the Equian Empire and the evil horse emperor Darkhoof. Meanwhile the world is becoming overrun with monsters of mysterious origin.

The four protagonists head to the big city to join a guild, small organizations which help protect various clients from monsters. Soon the main character is recruited by a secretive group of elite mages known as "spirit wizards," while at the same time pursuing a relationship with a young deposed prince. Things seem to be going well until Equian soldiers attack the human capital, sending the humans up in arms.

Characters:

The main characters are four teenage orphans that have lived in a boarding school where they have stuck together as outcasts.

Olivia is a human female with the strongest magic as well as spirit magic skills. She is very headstrong, courageous, and independent.

Charles is a horse male and the gunner of the group. He is very sociable and enjoys being with his friends more than anything. He is proud to be a horse and has often taken an interest in Equian culture, but Darkhoof's rise has created a blemish on that identity.

Constance is a human female who fights with a sword and shield. She has the best defense of the group. She is very honest, and has yet to come to grips with her feelings for a certain someone.

Morris is a human male who fights with axes, maces, clubs and other melee weapons. He has the best physical attack of the group. He can be very funny at times, but also very immature, which often gets on the nerves of Constance.

So I played through the first chapter of your game. I must admit the premise seems kinda silly, I mean horses? Why? Don't get me wrong I love horses, but I don't really understand the significance of being a horse. They seem like ordinary people to me, just with horse heads for some reason. Maybe it's explained in a later part, I don't know.

That being sad, this isn't bad at all. It's a fairly competent FF style game with some decent writing. I didn't find any bugs or spelling errors, so points for that. Some graphical inconsistency, especially with the enemy battlers.

A couple of things annoyed me, some areas are so dark or foggy I cen't tell what's going all. Also some maps are full of clutter while others are nearly empty. In the first town, all npcs had to say was gameplay tips, which breaks immersion, and there were appearently no houses for them to live in, do they all stay at the inn?

In the end I was left with one question... where is Horse Fantasy 1?

Okay, so I played until where I couldn't continue anymore, early Chapter 2, I can't find the Guild.

It's a good game actually, with good battle system and epic music.

As CommanderKei said, the map is empty and kinda too big for me and some of them is too dark and foggy.

I can barely see anything in burning house scene with those thick fog.

Interior map is just fine, but exterior map is so empty.

Try to add trees in the field, and random crop in the middle of field is kinda doesn't make sense.

Who the hell plant them? Especially with those monsters lurking around?

Medioventa is too big for me, sure it's the capital, but it's awfully big and empty.

And why most of the houses in Shopping District don't have windows? There are houses without door too.

I agree, the horses just seemed like a odd gimmick(and this is coming from a brony)the game is competent enough, the writing was amusing and fun, though I really didn't like Charles, though one thing I couldn't get over was the enemies...its a bit odd seeing a ant around the same size of a grizzly bear,I'll keep my eye on this though,it has promise.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Over-fogged and too much clutter, some maps are too big and baron. I will work on this.

Replies

1. The Headbangers Guild is just north of Gabriel's house in the business district. It has a sign out front that labels it. Sorry it's tough to find anything in that map.

2. Horse fantasy 1 was a game I made when i was a little kid. You don't want to play it, something only a mother could love.

3. I can see how the horses would seem pretty random. It's a story element that started as an allegory for race and took on a life of its own. Horses used to be enslaved in this world (beasts of burden) but they won their freedom a few centuries ago. Since then they have formed their own nation, but it's come under fascist rule and now Darkhoof is trying to conquer the humans and enslave them in turn.
