Game Title: Ropetown RPG

POSITIVE POINTS: The raunchy humour and excellent use of a glorious battle system would probably be the most defining features of this game, plus the fact that not every play through is the same when you take into account Randomized Loot. Maps are fairly decent, though there are some things that bugged me, which I will explain later.

NEGATIVE POINTS: The raunchy and sarcastic humour may not be everyone's cup of tea, and the game in and of itself breaks the fourth wall a lot, which, again, may not be everyone's cup of tea. Also, Rhox is a negative point. There's also very little story to go on.

GENERAL COMMENTS: WHAT THE FUCK DOES GFG MEAN? I'M SERIOUS HERE.

STORY:

As soon as the game starts out, you take control of a young man named Rava, who is out venturing in the forest when he comes across....you know, I'm going to be absolutely blunt in this review, because I think it will be funnier that way. Anyway, you come across a pedophile who hangs out in the woods, and explains that he stands there to warn adventurers about the beast that dwells in the forest, which we have been tasked with carrying out.

Afterwards, you navigate a labyrinth-like maze in the forest, looking for the beast that you have been tasked to kill. Once you do so, you return to town to claim your reward, which is an admission ticket to Ropetown to join the Adventurer's Guild. This seems to be the driving point of the story, but there is very little room for actual development (from what I played), and essentially, the plot comes down to basically "HAPPY FUN ADVENTURE TIME WITH A PERVERT".

Dialogue is filled with swear words after every third NPC. While I generally don't condone swearing on any occasion just for the sake of swearing, it definitely made NPCs a lot more "dynamic", rather than just walking drones like they are in half of all RPGs out there. Also, as I have said before, the dialogue breaks the fourth wall a lot, drawing references to Taco Bell, Arby's, and other famous American Fast Food places. Throughout the game, you can also read up on some famous and not-so-famous novels on various bookshelves. It feels good looking at the bookshelves in game and listening to the title of a book, knowing full well that I've already read that particular book at least a dozen times (Great Gatsby, Mockingbird, Holes, etc.), though there are some books that I did not know about, which also engages the player on a more intellectual scale rather than just saying this and this such.

Why are the town guards such asswipes? Calling me dogs and shit...

There was only one really jarring grammatical error that I found in the game.

AUDIO/GRAPHICS: The graphics are all RTP, but audio is comprised mostly of MIDI files, making it stand out from the rest of the crowd. This also, unfortunately, places a severe amount of lag on the game when loading sound files, especially going into battle. The game also tends to be very loud at certain points, especially during battle, with that old reminiscent Battle Theme that I wish never existed.

The landscaping of the World Map is fairly well done, except for the part where you get to the bridge. The bridge then partially stops inside the side of the mountains, leaving players to wonder if there is like a cave there or something. This mapping error I saw would probably be the only mapping error I saw.

The title music is about the greatest thing ever.

Also, people sleep at the end of beds.

BATTLE SYSTEM: This is one part of the game that is truly engaging. The Battle System, by itself, utilizes front-view with Yanfly's Battle Engine. But beyond that, there are a lot more dynamic things you can do with your abilities, such as give them various gems to enhance their performance.

A lot of the skills you use have additional benefits, such as Life Spark restoring more HP when the caster's MP is low. This makes game play incredibly intuitive and not just spam Attack over and over, which is still a viable option in most cases.

Enemies were not too difficult or too easy, though some were kind of a pain to deal with, such as the Blood Weeds, who pretty much Blinded you if they hit you.

My one big gripe about the Battle System, however, is also one that I take into account in a real-life perspective, and that's the fact that you can miss. Isn't Miss just the same as an Evade? If not, why make it so? Also, you can't physically miss with Melee Weapons, though some could argue that you can miss with Ranged Weaponry. The only time you should really "Miss" is when you're Blinded. So yeah...100% Hit Rate pl0x.

GAMEPLAY: Outside of combat and the story, or lack thereof, you are adventuring with a pervert man named Rhox who says things that I wish he never said (if at any point he becomes desperate enough, I'd do it with him, and not charge 1000G an hour. Maybe more like 50G). At one point, you come across a puzzle room in which you must navigate six puzzles. It is only required you do three of them, but I ended up doing four of them because I hate Simon Says Puzzles and the Flame and Blue Fire one was too confusing and challenging (it shouldn't reset the switches, in my opinion). These extra puzzles are really great at stretching the brain for exercise, though some are just arbitrary up/down/left/right until you get to the end of the room.

The use of the Gems to enhance abilities is superb. I still don't know what Alpha and Beta Limits do, but given that the creator of this game likes to personify himself as a Dog, it must mean that Rava becomes the Alpha Male of the group later on.

Why can I not interact with the flowers in the Coffin Forest? That's really bugging me.

OVERALL SUMMARY: Stay away if you're a pacifist or are religious. Otherwise, you're going to have an amazing time.

RATING: 3.5/5.

Ah, the age old question, "What does GFG mean?" Tigerbite is actually pretty close. Basically a term used in Diablo 2 (and 3) to describe desirable items.

This made me laugh more than it should have. Glad you had some degree of fun, makes me want to finish my current projects so this atrocity isn't all I have to show for my work.
