Holder 333 Posted October 7, 2013 You've got a really nice collection growing here. The colours and their consistency are perfect in each resource type, watching your DA and I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.
Cait 385 Posted October 9, 2013 Thanks! Often my mind is all over the place from the dim ancient past of our ancestors struggle to survive in the coldest stone age, to the age of myth and finally to the future, fantasy and magical tales included. @Grandmadeb - *chuckles* I was actually trying to do that when I got obsessed or busy with something else. I got it all up to date, but minus a couple of headings. I still have a couple of things to put up, but I have to put in it's own page in the dungeon page. The ghost ship is the only thing I have to do. On a note, I am going to be creating dungeons, but it will likely take me a couple of days or weeks, depending. I have a couple of them up, but I am a dark story loving girl and think that the RTP dungeons are... not dangerous at all. Mind you, I am still learning and can not animate water to save my life. I am going to be making "hopefully" something like or similar to DANTE'S seven level of "heck" or the h word. I know that's going to take a lot of research and seeing what I can do... definitely a long term project. Let's see what I can do.
Cait 385 Posted October 14, 2013 Okay, I do have an update for you guys. I have a new tile set in Fancy at the bottom, modern set of furniture that's not my style, but I thought looked interesting. Here's a screenshot. Please ignore the mock modern day tiles as I created those for practice creating tiles and have no intention of ever releasing them. Namely just using them in example tiles for my edits. Now, here's an update to the dungeon tile sets that I have been working on. I am uncertain about furniture for a tower, but maybe someone has a suggestion. I know it would be crafted from wood, but otherwise, it is turning out really well. Note: If I am unable to share w.i.p. screenshots in this topic, just tell me and I will remove them. No questions asked. Thank you.
Cecillia 652 Posted October 14, 2013 Love the way you compose your maps. It really inspires me (I'm going to make maps now hehe) Thank you so much for your tilesets. They are beautiful and I am definitely using them
Cait 385 Posted October 14, 2013 Thanks! I saw them in a paper and for one minute wished I had the $$$ to buy them. The real life version had two black leather cushion on it that I just couldn't duplicate. I used to watch a lot of design shows on DYI and other such channels, when I was bored and I think a lot of it rubbed off on me. I appreciate the kind words and now, if only I can get better on my outside maps. I can't help it, I just love to create inside stuff.
Cecillia 652 Posted October 14, 2013 OMG! I'm glad you're the same as me hehe! I've been watching a lot of design shows and looking at so much interior design websites and it's just utterly inspiring.
Cait 385 Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) Yeah, I find myself looking up a lot of furniture, but am quite disappointed that nothing from around the year: 1000 didn't survive. I hope to create some rustic ancient sort of furniture for my tower, dungeon, sewer tiles only there are no examples. Other than the few pictures of Greek, which isn't exactly what I am looking for. I know we got more furniture as time went on, most peasants did not have chairs, but benches, sat on chests and etc. I'd continue watching, mostly, I stick to the net now as Cable TV mostly sucks. I think I get a wider variety that way, I have to keep pushing myself. Otherwise, I will not get any better. And people used to say that watching design shows wouldn't help your mapping skills. I beg to differ, but one huge room is possible with the right layout, even in rpg maker. I only wish my room wasn't white walls and I had some of these rooms. ToT Maybe not, my house would be a frankenhouse. French country kitchen, japanese living room, whatever bedroom, somewhere else, bathroom and a japanese garden with sakura trees in the yard. I go overboard, truly and then, I'd want to change it every five minutes. A curse I get from my mother, who wanted to change the house every so often. Just, in case, people wanted to see some of my earlier edits, when I could recolor and was learning how to remix. This is from back when VX was being used and I don't know what I was thinking. But I thought I'd add it to see if anyone had any use for it. I think it's rather bad, but maybe with a little editing... UPDATE: I finally mastered and created a pumpkin which is pretty good as I discovered my issue was shape. Well here it is. Thankfully it looks pretty good. Ah original tiles are so cool. Cait 385 Posted October 16, 2013 MASSIVE UPDATE IN THE TILE SET, DUNGEON AND CHARACTER, OBJECTS! I finally released part one of my dungeon project. I do plan on doing some tiles for a buried city, cavern and ... that's about all I can think of now. But the tower is done, unless I can think of more to add. Check them out on the first page. However, this is an rpg maker vx ace only tile set as I did use some ACE tiles in the edits. The pumpkin, if you use it, is a completely original tile. One of two painted tiles that I have done, hopefully, more to come as I've about reached my limits what I can do remixing and must move on the next step. Yup, creating my own and remixing all at the same time. I have no idea how long I'll be at this phase, but it'll be fun while it lasts!!!! But in the meantime, you enjoy the fruits of my labor. Now, if I can only get better at faces and animating characters.... I admit I suck at those.
grandmadeb 285 Posted October 21, 2013 Cait you are kicking some graphical derriere in your Deviant Art and here! I am thoroughly impressed!
Jonnie91 1,149 Posted October 21, 2013 I am. HIGHLY impressed. Time to do a mega download of your work to add to my tilesets I must find use for folder xD apsolutely astonishingly beautiful work, and I'm looking forward to see more
Cait 385 Posted October 22, 2013 Thanks! I suddenly has a growth when my roommate lost the Internet and I was stuck with nothing to do. My next dungeon set is more massive and should push me even further. But I guess I am surprised, too. I taught myself, you don't get noticed if you don't jump into the pit and face horrible rejection. I hope to create an underground city, like the areas of Rome or even, futurama. I hope that these dungeon tiles really make people think and even get curious about the wonderful places just under their feet in real life. I just think the typical dungeons are over used and boring, plus, look too nice. Even their ruins in XP...
Cait 385 Posted October 23, 2013 UPDATE: I created two new doors, mostly based on the FSM material design only using another wood pattern. I have a couple of versions, one with a lock, and one without, and two colored versions. Pink and white and black and purple. Girlie and Goth. (^_^') I have hit a snag on my buried tiles as I have no clue how to create rusted metal or even edit it. *Sigh* This one might take me awhile as I have got to to inside and outside sets, so maybe by next year I will be releasing that set. I will continue to do little edits like the doors and release them. If anyone has suggestions, I will see if I can do it, but I am in the middle of learning. I hope to learn on to create my own patterns and further define my lines. Thanks! And maybe the force be with you! I wasn't sure if this was against the rules, as I do have an update, but you can never tell on some sites. *Goes to check rules*
Cait 385 Posted October 29, 2013 (=^.^=) I know I said I wouldn't update until after the first, because my internet is slowing down a bit, and won't get faster until after the first. But I just wanted to show a bit off and hopefully, people will comment while they give me advice. Now, the floor is based on Celianna's futuristic set, but is an edit of the white tile and looks vastly different. I just duplicated what she did, by putting shadows and I'm not sure I like it. They might not even stay, but the vending machine is, also, based on hers... well, here lights at any rate and the picture is based on Coke's, only blue and not red. I want to add things to the morgue, like microscopes and such, to really have the same feeling as a hospital. The biggest concern is the prospective of the open door of the morgue area and if it's the correct point of view. It doesn't look correct and I know it. I am just uncertain of how it should look or how to correct it. *Sigh* I am not in love with the floor, thought I liked how Celianna did her floor, only not certain. I am thinking of just completely getting of that look and remove the shadows. I have an ashtray in the set, too, but with the no smoking sign... I didn't feel right to add it. Ah, one thing leads to another... Inspiration of a mustard seed. Now, onto work, that's really important. Editing my book. A lot to be excited about and I haven't given up on my underground buried city dungeon, only my mind's too light, bright and full of life to be in the dark depths of death right now. () It's the wrong season for it, duh, with Thanksgiving and Christmas, all those warm fuzzy memories... I wish I had that graphical ability to create Christmas or Thanksgiving tiles, but I'm still learning about animation. Otherwise, I would create a huge bonfire for autumn festival and a hay wagon. o.o If you're here to steal ideas, go ahead, because I say you can't copyright inspiration and put it into a bottle to sell. It's meant to be spread around for free. Just don't ask for story ideas, I will likely give you them and regret it, later when you're a millionaire.
grandmadeb 285 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) Okay, hospital data screens, morgue body vaults, metal slabs for autopsies, another color bulletin board, wall file with papers, metal-top tables, blinds, ALL REALLY NICE! I agree that your floor (upper left) is a little meh. I think it is the lack of contrast between the floor and the other elements, maybe... The white and black floor is nice. Way to capture some as yet untapped but realistic elements of life in some nice tiles. (and those morgue doors could be used for filing cabinets, too!) NIce light aqua color on that upper right wall, BTW. Edited October 30, 2013 by grandmadeb
Cait 385 Posted October 30, 2013 o.o I never noticed that.... Yeah, I love to base my tile based on pictures and what I see. My story range is so wide that I need graphics from the past to the future. I change that tile to a Tiny square tiles, white that I think works, but I suppose black could work, too. I hope to create other hospital tiles, hopefully, I can fix that morgue door. T.T something looks off with the angle.
Cait 385 Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) UPDATE: My science Fiction/hospital tiles is all finished. I would like to note that I was inspired by a couple of people, Celianna's futuristic pack, someone's blood set which can only be used for free or unless you get his or her permission..( Recliff of something) and a Japanese artist XP stuff. But it's only the blood you can't use in a commercial game, unless you happen to get the artist permission or create your own. *sigh* Anyway, there still might be some changes that I do in the near future. I might edit the soda machine to be broken when it's on its side and dim the lights a bit. I was mostly hoping to learn how to do rusty stuff, which I think was successful. Now, if I can only learn to pixel tiny little objects like cans... Update: learning to paint curvy tiles. I am not sure I'll release those, but the practice is good. I think I got rusty metal as a wip, but it isn't as hard as it was. Current: metallic barrel or is the term drums? Edited November 6, 2013 by Cait
Cait 385 Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) o.o Here i am *echo*. Wow! It's empty in here, but never the less I am here to give an update to an entire new edits. One, I am working on metal drums and yeah, I know Celianna has her own version in her futuristic set. It does help me learn. But my newest set is an Egyptian themed tile set, because too many times desert themes are mostly based around Arabian or Indian style graphics. Now, don't get me wrong, but when I think of the Middle East, I think Egyptian and none of the Arabian style design comes to my mind. Plus, really how many edits for that style are out there? Not many, I can tell you. The wall is an edit of two graphics and the top of the obelisk doesn't look right. It's curved down so I am at a loss on how to fix it. o.o Logic fails me at the moment. Normally, I can think logical but the angle is so odd... UPDATE 2: I was messing around with GIMP and I think I have ... My second paint tiles, well, I think I need to work on the rusty versions and maybe the bottom. These are not ready to be used, yet as they are work in progress. But hey, pretty good right? o.o I am very proud of my progress, really, now, if I can learn how to do wood. It's rather difficult. grandmadeb 285 Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) ] ^The bloody bed is created with a graphic that I got from Raciff or whatever, his name is. He or she created bloody tiles set that ended up on Grannydeb's list. I am uncertain of his or her terms, so if you want commercial use, either contact them or erased and create your own bloody beds. I can not speak of other people. Cait, I love your stuff, and I very much appreciate the care you take to credit even the smallest inspiration or work of others in your posts. The bloody tile looks like it is just one tile from a set we used to credit to "Recife" - blame Google translate for that one! But the artist has stuff up on a blog here: (scroll all the way down) http://uma.xii.jp/che/tkool_material/vx_map_che01.html And allows editing and asks to be mentioned as C.H.E. There is no mention of commercial use that I can understand. Edited November 17, 2013 by grandmadeb
Cait 385 Posted November 17, 2013 (edited) Thanks! The problem was I did put it my post that I got the blood from Recife, but #o.o# I couldn't spell the name. I think I said Raciff- something, but I will add the name to the credits list. Yeah, I said that was a free tile, so it's nice that I have an answer, even if I don't have an official answer. I can be pretty bad with names if it's not something I normally spell and google just plan sucks now. I appreciate the help, so I will check out the blog. Credit: C.H.E. well, that's a name I never would found. I couldn't create my own blood tiles, though not the only person who has that trouble! *laughs* Edited November 17, 2013 by Cait
Cait 385 Posted November 24, 2013 I have made a decision that I will put graphics out, once a week, if nothing, then, the next week. If nothing happens, as I hit a creative wall, then, I will update the topic, once a month. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I have updated my graphics. A set of animated vents, with bloody, rusty and new versions in character sets. An add-on for my hospital, sets with a cash register, more version of holes, non-animated vents, with rust lockers. I do plan on adding to the lockers, by adding bent doors and ripped off version. Only, my brother got me an expansion pack of Sims 3 (World Adventure and Generations), plus, he got A link between two worlds and the Wii-U 3D Mario game. So, I am fighting working and just plan playing, but you know how that is. Happy Thanksgiving! My next set should be the Eygptian set that I have been creating, only ran into trouble, because back then, there was very little furniture. I have to come up with my own sets in a region that didn't have much wood and mostly used baskets to store things. All in all, it makes you appreciate what you have now to see how far we have gone. Just saying. Anyway, please enjoy the graphics and feel free to leave comments. If you have suggestions what you'd like to see, suggest it and oh, I am taking commissions. Not that it would ever interfere with my creating and giving away graphics. The difference between a request and a commission is the following. You are free to request a graphic, but I do not have to do it. If I do create said graphic, I will put it in my deviant art account and this topic for everyone to use, not just you. If you desire this graphic, please think and considering paying me. I am rather cheap, it depends on the work and the amount of time, I have to take. It can range from $5.00 to $20.00, but considering most people want small graphics, I might charge less than that. But to get started, you will have to contact me so I can hear what you want and quote you a price. I am rather reasonable, this will give you exclusive tile for your game alone and I would only use a screenshot as means of show casing my work.
Dziva 0 Posted November 25, 2013 Absolutely love your stuff!! It is all so pretty. Egypt had furniture, a lot of it hasn't survived except for what was put into tombs though. Depends on how far back in Egyptian history you want to go. What you could do is take a look at some of the Roman examples and the surviving Egyptian examples and mesh them. Much of their furniture became similar in style and Rome ended up taking a lot from Egypt and Greece - especially around Cleopatra's time. An Egyptian set would also have a lot of statues in it - the gods, the pharoah, the royal family, etc. Their furniture was also mostly very low (at least rich stuff was) as a lot of it was made for lounging on. Hope I didn't come across as bossy or something. Just wanting to help if I can :3 A quick question (ugh I'll sound silly) but how do I get your extremely awesome bookcase door to work?
Cait 385 Posted November 25, 2013 You see the time period in question, poor people didn't have furniture and the well-to-do had a few pieces, which the use of furniture increased over time. Mostly, poor people used baskets and jars, very common and could be crafted cheaply. Which would look empty in RPG Maker. I am creating a none historic answer, but should look as if people would have used this if it existed. I guess it was never the rich I had trouble with, mostly, they had multi purpose items.. Chairs, chests, and tables. As for my door, it can be used through the quick event ( door) and if you put a book in it, a combination item selection, conditional branch and of course, the move events. When you do the move events, the wait seconds is increased to five seconds instead of three. It's rather easy, though no sound affect for the door. The statues part is going to ve the hardest as I can't do people, but maybe I can see. Oh no, you didn't sound bossy at all. Mostly, I google, a lot of different sources. They had beautiful style that shouldn't be that hard to create, but the poor, well, I have to create something..
Dziva 0 Posted November 25, 2013 Hmmm the door sounds like it should be easy to use so I must be doing something wrong. I try and use it through the quick event and all I get is a tiny bit of the upper left hand corner of the bookshelf. I'll check it out in game to see if it is one of those things that looks different in the editor than when you actually play the game. Ahhh poor people. Go for clay and basic wooden structures, as well as some woven mats. Their belongings would have been made from mud clay and in the structure of their house when very poor, slightly more well off people would have had basic wooden stuff. If they couldn't afford a bed then they would have had a papyrus sleeping mat. Egyptians also did not have pillows, they had hard wooden head rests that curved a bit. Poor people also kept their furniture small but that is because they were poor not because they lounged in banquets. Most likely would have clay bowls as well. If they had a trade (like bead making, pot making, sculpting etc) the tools of their trade would be in their home and they would have another small sleeping area. For statues maybe you could ignore the pharaoh and stick with the animal headed gods? They would probably be more common anyway. Even poor people tried to have little places where they could have something for their patron deity. Maybe use the Mack sprite base (since you want them taller probably) and edit it?
