Okay! I've been meaning to do this at some point, so here it is, Dragon Legacy!

Dragon+Legacy.PNG

Game Title: Dragon Legacy

Genre: A Fantasy RPG mostly (Since it's still in progress, it's unsure if it will have a tinge of sci-fi in it) But it will have puzzles, eventually, you'll probably not see them until the big dungeons. XD

Game Progression: *Halted for now due to possible chance of moving houses*

Recruitment: Well, most of the content used in the game is all RTP. Since this game is in it's earliest form and a prototype. I might request aid for possible custom facesets and sprites to replace the defaults with at a later stage. Most of the tilesets will probably stay RTP but I have used some custom tilesets but I'll get to crediting them in the credits below. =)

Story (Story has been corrected by Wraithblade =D)

Elde, a world blessed with magic and home to many different and unique races.

'Elde is constantly being observed by its creator and beloved goddess', Moira, and the 'Eight Sacred Kaisers'. Powerful dragon deities created by the Goddess Moira to guide and aid the races of Elde.

However, 'Despite the era of peace the inhabitants of Elde have enjoyed since its creation', a darkness crept over the world, in the form of Moira's corrupted brother, Odin.

A war erupted as the races of Elde banded together against the demonic threat. From his power, he created 'Monsters' that he sent forth into Elde to 'to sow chaos and discord across Elde'.

With the aid of the 'Sacred Kaisers' and the races of Elde, and a heavy heart, Moira sealed away who used to be her brother.
To ensure he never escaped, the Goddess requested the 'Sacred Kaisers' to create special keys that would keep him locked away.
Thus, the eight Dragon Orbs came into being. The Goddess Moira also told them to hide these orbs, far away from those of impure intent, who would seek to release Odin from his prison.

While the inhabitants of Elde were recovering from their long war, the Goddess returned to the heavens. The Eight Kaisers returned to their sacred realms, to continue watching over the world that their creator fought to protect.

As time continued to pass, Elde flourished and became peaceful once again. The legend of 'The Elde War' continued to be passed down from generation to generation, along with the legend of the mythical Dragon Orbs. And now, a new chapter of this tale is about to be written...

World of Elde

A world full of life and rich with mana. It is inhabited by many races that all have different abilities and racial traits. During the 'Elde War', 'all the races of Elde banded together to fight against Odin, his monsters and his generals'. Once the war was over, people had learned to live in peace again for a time.

Yet even now, as monster numbers start to multiply again the fragile peace slowly starts to fade away, kingdoms and empires question the trust of each other, the 'Eight Sacred Kaisers' continue their sworn duty of watching over the world, though they no longer intervene with mortal affairs.

Races

Humans

Humans are the most common and well-known race known in Elde. Although Humans are a young race, they are a very intelligent race, and have progressed much faster in technology than the other races. Humans are strong believers in justice and in their religion with the Goddess, sadly, Humans are more vunerable to darker emotions, due to their fickle nature.

Despite this fact, Humans are considered very curious by other races since they are more vocal and swayed with their emotions than any other race.

Elves

The Elven race is known to be respected and feared by many for their mystic powers that are said to even surpass even the other races that also used magic. Elves are also known for their long life-spans, and their knowledge of many ancient mysteries that many people still do not yet understand.

Due to their long lifespans, rumours say that they hold the secret of eternal life, however, this is not true, Elves are not immortal, but they can live for Four thousands years at most. Since Elves are more in tuned with nature and highly sensitive to change, they do not often leave their lands often, if not ever. Elves are very reserved and cautious about making bonds of friendships with anyone outside their race, although it is said that they are loyal friends and allies to the Myst Kingdom.

Were-Beasts

A race that is considered the strongest due to their unnaturally physically strong bodies. They also appear human-like with animal features. Humans and Were-Beasts apparently have a strong bond of friendship that was forged during the 'Elde War'. So Were-Beasts welcome Humans into their homeland (The Tanuki Highlands).

Were-Beasts live a similar lifestyle to Elves. Thanks to their unnatural physical abilities, they make great builders and have made many masterpieces around the world. It was even rumoured that they even built a hidden 'special shrine' to hide a 'sacred treasure' from theives...

Genji

The Genji are very mysterious and they often live by the ways of the shadow of the moon. Living like Ninjas and Samarais, they have a strict lifestyle and have many traditional rules and laws that the Genji must obey.

They start their training from a young age to become deadly assassins. Since Genji are used to fighting, they'll side with anyone as long as they have the money.

So they live like mercenaries, getting paid for any job that involves assassinating, murder and other dirty jobs that normally other people would be afraid of doing. They have learnt how to do a perfect murder without leaving any trace of evidence behind.

There are some Genji that are more merciful and peaceful by nature, however, this caused a rift within the race, thus causing the land of Kutai to be divided into two empires.

As the age-long civil war between the two empires continued, some, who tire of fighting for either side leave their land, these wandering Genji will often go from place to place, finding a reason of existence...

Elyrias

This race is elusive and rarely heard of in Elde. It is said that they live above the clouds and secretly watch over the world of Elde from afar. Evidence of their race is only found in old ruins in the lands of Aeon Kingdom's neighbour, the Balacour Kingdom.

They had assisted the people of Elde during the 'Elde War' to seal away Odin, the Demon King. Legends say that they are Guardians to the Goddess, but it's never been proven.

Sorry if the world map is a bit cut in places, I tried to get the whole world map, but RPG maker won't let me zoom out that far.

Also, this is NOT completed yet, it's still in the works. But what do you think of it? ^_^ I used a sample map and tried to edit it the best I could to make it stand out. Personally, I'm quite proud of it. =3

This is just an example of the food & drink feature option. You will get a large choice later in the game, this is still in the very beginning =3

Features:

*There are three optional characters that you can choose to join your group or not for the rest of the game. While you won't need them to complete the story, these three have their own backstories like the other characters but can be explored optionally if you choose to add them to your party. But you'll only be given this choice once in the entire game, so choose carefully. >=D They also have their own classes too. =)

PS: I'll need to study up on how to make different events for the main story segments as they'll be affected by the choice. XD

*There is a skit feature, there are special events in the world of Elde that you can find that gives you extra story about the characters and even some lore on Elde. =) Depending on the characters in your party and what side quests you've done. ^^

*New Update on Skit System*
Skits can now also be found in towns and dungeons rather than just in on the over world map. =3

It's gonna be skit-tastic. XD

*Loot! Since this game as lot of exploration going on and there will be optional dungeons and such, there will be special key items that can only be found by exploring, some can be found by sparkles, others can't. These key items can be used to open/complete certain side quests or can be taken to a certain smithy to make elite armour. (Naturally you won't get this option until much later in the game)
But, you can still look around for them, and some of these items can only be picked up once and in one-time only locations or dungeons. So become an adventurer and explore! =D

Oh and ultimate weapons will probably be in said optional dungeons or I'll add them along with the smithy idea, I haven't decided yet, but this feature is definitely happening!

You can also collect normal items like potions and stuff, so it's kinda like Dragon quest? XD

*NEW*
A new feature that can be seen in one of the new screenshots, is what I like to call the 'Food and Drink' feature. This feature allows you to go to Teahouses and Restaurants/Cafes to buy various drinks and foods that can aid you in battle (Be it recovering health, MP or giving you buffs.)

However, in some cases, some of these foods or drinks are needed to complete certain side quests that are food related. You can even find some foods or drinks during your adventure so you don't have to pay money for them.

You can also receive special food dishes as quest rewards that can give you permanent stat boosts or a special 'item'. =3 (or at least that's the theory I have for this feature.)

I've decided to change the character backgrounds and scenes in the game, so I decided to start back to the beginning and work back up. ^_^

IMPORTANT NOTICES

*Just an important notice to add. Most of the houses in the game, will have doors attached to them. However, some of these doors are closed off due to the fact they have no importance to the game's story, side quests, etc. So please keep this in mind if you ever play the game and don't panic if you find all the houses have doors, not all of them are closed off.

I'll do a post for updates on the game on this topic. And I'll continuing updating the basic information and list of people to credit as the game progresses.. =)

Laters. =D *Collapses*

Seems interesting, I'll try it out when you get a demo up. A suggestion though, that font color is kinda hard to read as it blends with the windowskin. My eyes hurt trying to read it >_<

Brace yourself Cruxis_Angel, I have merciless honesty and a text correcting habit.

I agree with what magic2345 stated about the text color.

Corrections to make here and there - Will make the story easier to understand (This is one of my habits as mentioned unfortunately).

'Elde, a world blessed with magic and home to many
different and unique races.
' - Why is 'different and unique races.' on a separate line?

'It is watched over both their creator and beloved goddess' - 'Elde is constantly being observed by its creator and goddess'

'However, despite the golden era of peace that has prevailed since Elde's creation' - 'Despite the era of peace the inhabitants of Elde have enjoyed since its creation'

'to cause chaos and discord' - 'to sow chaos and discord across Elde'

'With Elde healing its wounds from their long-fought war' - 'While the inhabitants of Elde were recovering from their long war'

'As thousands of years passed the world by, the world of Elde flourished and progressed' - 'As time continued to pass, Elde flourished and became peaceful once again'

'A world flourishing in life and mana' - 'A world full of life and rich with mana'

'all the races of Elde joined forces to fend off the hordes of monsters, along with Odin and his Generals' - 'all the races of Elde banded together to fight against Odin, his monsters and his generals'

'as monster numbers rise and the peace in Elde slowly fading, Kingdoms and Empires begin to question the other's trust' - 'as monster numbers start to multiply again the fragile peace slowly starts to fade away, kingdoms and empires question the trust of each other and the 'Eight Sacred Kaisers' continue their sworn duty of watching over the world'

Other than all that it's fine as is, sorry if it seems like I went overboard but I did mention it was a habit.

The story is not unique but it works - Add a bit of unpredictability to the story and it should work out well enough.

The two maps shown are somewhat bland, I can only assume you plan to work on them more - A world map is supposed to be big if the world itself is big, it wouldn't be a world map otherwise.

'PS: I'll need to study up on how to make different events for the main story segments as they'll be affected by the choice.' - Conditional Branches, Variables and Switches can help you with that.

...That's all from me, again I apologize if my corrections went over-board - Keep working at it and it should be good all things considered.

Thanks guys. I'll have to fix that when I get the chance. ^^

Also I do agree that the text seems to blend with the window screen. I'll try changing the window to a darker colour or change the text colour and see if it makes it easier on the eyes.

Yeah, the story isn't exactly original, as I'm sure this had be reused so many times, but I will try to make it different somehow. =)

The map isn't finished to be honest. So it still needs finishing and polishing. Also, I'll look up on the Conditional Branches, Variables and Switches you mentioned. ^_^

Again, thanks and I'll try to sort out these issues in the game. I'm still in the middle of rewriting some of the old scenes anyway. =D

One other thing I'm going to mention, the faces - Look into getting some faces with expressions, a smile is usually quite out of place when someone is being serious.

True, I had been thinking about asking to see if it's possible to get custom facesets and sprites. Chances are NPCs won't get these custom facesets or sprites but I am going to see if I can do something about the main cast, main villains and the Dragon Kaisers. =).

Update: I've managed to find a majority of emo face sets for nearly all the characters, thanks to Welsh Paddy. (Who is a lifesaver <3)

I'll leave the villains and Dragon Kaisers until further in the production. Since I think getting the main cast's face sets is my first priority.

Sorry for the bump, but I come bringing updates and new screenshots! =D

Updates (please see the first post for more information)

*New feature as been added

*Improved Skit system

*Races info been added

*New screenshots

*I have now finally finished revamping all the old scenes and now moving on. Struggling a bit with balancing the weapons/armours/enemies stats, but hopefully it'll turn out okay in the end.

That's all for now, but I'll let you know on more updates on the progress of the game =D

Hmm, you should try using a white outline for your font just for that book scene.

A white outline? Sure, I'll give it a shot. =3

It might make a difference. ^_^

Update: I've tried it out, made it more transparent than before. (Unless doing \FO is not how you do an outline. ^^)

So I tried other methods, when I got to bold it came out like this: Intro+test.png

I think it makes it stand out more, what you guys? Think it's any better than the original? =)

PS: I could try different colours, the question is which one would be best? ^^;

About your mapping - I know you're working on it but all these maps are far too 'square-like', I've seen someone make this same mapping error before.

http://oi50.tinypic.com/efq9ag.jpg - A little demo map I put together in about 10 minutes, this should help you with mapping some locations.

Try to design your world map locations in a similar way to the sample map you edited into, don't try to design a large world map from a blank map unless you are quite confident in your mapping abilities.

Don't forget the events for waterfalls, they look damn odd without them.

Event Graphic > Other 2 - Waterfall event pieces, Firefall event pieces etc (Set them to Stepping Animation when you add them and turn off Walking Animation)

The first screenshot and its related screenshot further down the list, the cliffs are far too straight and look unnatural - Refer to the demo map screenshot for guidance, also try using a Mountain Parallax Background instead as it may look better overall.

That's all from me for now, good going - You're getting better at it all slowly but surely.

Edit for Text Color: Try \C[9] or \C[10] - Should stand out more that way.

Thanks for your advice. ^_^

Yeah as you can tell, my level-designing is very amateurish, but it's okay. Practice makes perfect as they say.

I haven't finished with the world map, but I'll try doing you say and try to make it less blocky. ^^ (Same goes for future maps. =D)

I have an interesting idea for those waterfalls in those empty gorges on the world map so I'll try test-running a few times when to see if I can get my idea to work.

I definitely plan to do more ambitious maps later in the game, for the beginning though, it'll be more or less simple designs at first. =)

But I'll definitely try that text colour idea for the intro. It's worth a shot. =3 I'll put up an update to show the different between the two text colours when I get them. ^_^

Update

: Test+colour+test+2.png

Here's the first colour text test.

Text+colour+test+1.png

And here's the second. =3

I'll let you guys decide which colour is better. =3

Blue it is then. =3

Hopefully people now will be able to read the intro without straining their eyes. ^^

Some people may not be able to read it that well, I suggest adding this to the event before the scrolling text > Text: Choose a Text Color > Choice 1 = Red, Choice 2 = Blue - Just copy and paste the scrolling text and change the \C number accordingly, put the Red version under Choice 1 and the Blue version under Choice 2. <- Gives the player the color choice instead of sticking with one color.

Seem, that sounds like a good idea, but the rest of the game's story text is in white. I don't know if giving a colour choice at the intro will affect the rest of the text?

Or did you mean just for the intro only?

Just the intro only, doing this for the rest of it is needlessly time-consuming and quite pointless.

Okay then. I'll do that. =3

I also agree that seems kind of pointless to do that for the rest of the game. But for the intro, that's understandable. =)

Hmm I actually have another suggestion for the book scene. You can also just tint the picture to make it look old (like sepia) or edit it in photoshop to make that "old history" kind of feel.

Hey! =D

That's a really good idea actually. =3

I don't have Photoshop though, but I do have the power of GIMP. ^_^

Thanks Magic, I'll get to work on that tomorrow. <3

Update: Well I got around to doing that alteration to the book.

Ancient+Book.png

It really does make a difference. ^_^

Thanks Magic for the suggestion! <3

PS: I credited you for the idea. =3
