Ghostwriteres 3 Posted May 8, 2013 So heres the thing. I looked through the web (including this site and a few others for help on this subject and tried differant things but none of them work). Heres the thing I am sure most of you have heard it before: When I open up my project to work on it I get a pop up that says: 'Unexpected File Format' I have no idea whats wrong or what to do. I worked for two days from 9 in the morning to 9 at night on this project for two days and now its lost and this isn't the first time it has happened. I lost another game that a scrapped because I thought it was lost for good. So please can you help?
+ Dark Influence 251 Posted May 8, 2013 Have you imported any custom content into your project(s) or are you just using the RTP-based content?
Ghostwriteres 3 Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) I important like a couple things...is that what it is? cause I cant make the game without them and the few things I made >< Plus they were not a problem a few months ago when I used it. + Dark Influence 251 Posted May 8, 2013 What extensions do these imported files have? Extension Examples: .exe, .png, .ogg etc
Ghostwriteres 3 Posted May 8, 2013 All are png I think
+ Dark Influence 251 Posted May 8, 2013 If they are PNGs there should be no problem there at all. Have you edited anything important? Such as a default script for example? Might as well go through a list and eliminate potential problems one by one.
Ghostwriteres 3 Posted May 8, 2013 Ah no I do not mess with the script, since I do not know how to >< Oh...wait would it be a problem if (I made a face using a face generator and it wouldnt let me save as png so I saved it as jpg,) would that be the problem? + Dark Influence 251 Posted May 8, 2013 Not sure how this software handles JPEGs but I think that would be fine just the same as a PNG. What were you doing just before the error occurred for the FIRST time?
+ Titanhex 284 Posted May 8, 2013 Actually I think the RPG Maker software doesn't support JPEG. I think it has to be PNG or BMP.
Ghostwriteres 3 Posted May 8, 2013 ....uhm well I saved my game then closed out of rpg maker then I shut down my computer because I was leaving...then I came back turned on my computer was going to work on it then it popped up
+ Dark Influence 251 Posted May 8, 2013 @Titanhex: It accepts BMP, PNG and JPG file formats - I just imported a JPEG and it worked just fine.

+ Dark Influence 251 Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) Take a screenshot of the error and post that up Ghostwriteres, might provide more insight. Edited May 8, 2013 by Wraithblade
Ghostwriteres 3 Posted May 8, 2013 I dont know what good it would do since its just what I told you >< but okay Ill figure out how to take a screenshot For soe reason my computer cant take screen shots >< help?
+ Dark Influence 251 Posted May 8, 2013 Press the button on your keyboard which says: Print Screen SysRq
+ Titanhex 284 Posted May 8, 2013 Worst case scenario give us the unencrypted version of your demo and someone can take a look at it. Your unexepected file format is clearly it trying to read an unsupported file format.
Ghostwriteres 3 Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) Got it here: (sorry my laptop has windows 7 and for some reason you have to do something differant than a regular printscreen ><)) Okay so if I cant salvage it, and I remake it...(ugh) how do I avoid this again? Cause its been happining ever since I redownloaded it to my computer (I had to have my computer fixed) Edited May 8, 2013 by Ghostwriteres
Cecillia 652 Posted May 8, 2013 This is happening because your .exe file is corrupted. You did not save it on time. Luckily there is a way to fix it. Replace your Game.rvproj2 with a clean one (create new project then drag and drop) and it should be fixed. It will not edit any other part of your game. This is what I did to fix my problems when that happened.
+ Dark Influence 251 Posted May 8, 2013 It's so much better when there is someone who has experienced the problem around to solve it, thank you for stepping in and assisting Cecillia.

+ Titanhex 284 Posted May 8, 2013 Any non-corrupted version should work. Get the one from the RTP if you have to.

Cecillia 652 Posted May 8, 2013 oh okay thanks Okay worked! biut now I get the error: Failed to load map info data...>< might be my problem...I accidently deleted one then put it back where it had been... You have to replace that map data and so forth with alternates. You can't restore those ones sadly.
