'Unexpected File Format' Help Please!

Recommended Posts

So heres the thing. I looked through the web (including this site and a few others for help on this subject and tried differant things but none of them work).

Heres the thing I am sure most of you have heard it before:

When I open up my project to work on it I get a pop up that says: 'Unexpected File Format' I have no idea whats wrong or what to do. I worked for two days from 9 in the morning to 9 at night on this project for two days and now its lost and this isn't the first time it has happened. I lost another game that a scrapped because I thought it was lost for good. So please can you help?

If they are PNGs there should be no problem there at all.

Have you edited anything important? Such as a default script for example?

Might as well go through a list and eliminate potential problems one by one.

Ah no I do not mess with the script, since I do not know how to ><

Oh...wait would it be a problem if (I made a face using a face generator and it wouldnt let me save as png so I saved it as jpg,) would that be the problem?

Not sure how this software handles JPEGs but I think that would be fine just the same as a PNG.

What were you doing just before the error occurred for the FIRST time?

Actually I think the RPG Maker software doesn't support JPEG.

I think it has to be PNG or BMP.

Worst case scenario give us the unencrypted version of your demo and someone can take a look at it.

Your unexepected file format is clearly it trying to read an unsupported file format.

Okay so if I cant salvage it, and I remake it...(ugh) how do I avoid this again? Cause its been happining ever since I redownloaded it to my computer (I had to have my computer fixed)

This is happening because your .exe file is corrupted. You did not save it on time.

Luckily there is a way to fix it. Replace your Game.rvproj2 with a clean one (create new project then drag and drop) and it should be fixed. It will not edit any other part of your game.

This is what I did to fix my problems when that happened.

It's so much better when there is someone who has experienced the problem around to solve it, thank you for stepping in and assisting Cecillia.

Any non-corrupted version should work. Get the one from the RTP if you have to.

You have to replace that map data and so forth with alternates. You can't restore those ones sadly.
