Genre: (Dark) Fantasy

Languages: German (working language), English (translation is planned)

Game Progression: Just getting started. Current: Middle of the Prolog (May 11th 2013/approximately 20 minutes of gameplay)

Story / Setting / Purpose (some spoilers, of course^^):

You find yourself, as  young, very promising recruit of the Urielits (templar/crusader, who devoted themselves to the archangel Uriel),  faced to an ambush of troops from hell. Luckily Count Ludwig, an experienced magician and confident of the grand master, knows how to deal with them and guides you to the head of this bataillon, the vampire, who once have wounded Ludwig. But instead of fighting the vampire, the Count turns on you, which ends with the death of yours.

You awake in heaven, Uriel welcomes you. He explains to you, that God and Satan have recognised you potential in solving the eternal fight between Good and Evil. So God gives you a new body and Satan brings you to life again. With the urge of revenge and the danger of being killed either from God's or from Satan's troops, who awake in a cave far high in the mountains. You are trapped and have no chance to escape. So you sit down and begin to think about if there are really Good and Evil.

In the meantime Count Ludwig reaches the headquarters of the Urielits and reports the grand master of "YOUR betrayal".

The story leads us to Vendolin, a young magician. His quest, finding and executing heretics, leads him to the mountain, in which you are trapped.

Will he fight or accompany you? Will you help God or Satan to win the battle? Or will you find a compromise?

Who knows? Your actions decide!

Character Bios:

YOU

Count Ludwig

grafludwigFS727.jpg

Experienced magician and confident of the grand master. He betrays not only you, he betrays the whole Uriel's order by changing to Satan's troops.

The grand master

gromeisterBLMCT.jpg

He leads the Uriel's order. He thinks quite a bit of Count Ludwig. Until Ludwig's "reveal", he felt the same about you.

Archangel Uriel

urielUQNVC.jpg

Uriel, the archangel who watches over thunder and terror, angel of the Divine Presence, called "the face of God", fighting the Evil with his flaming sword.

So he founded Uriel's order to fight the Evil on earth. He likes and respects you, but don't fool him. He is graphically represented as being as pitiless as any demon!

Satan

luziferIDTUY.jpg

You can never be sure, if he wants you or if he will kill you anyway. He likes to speak in riddles and he often just kills for his own fun.

You should really try to impress him or defeat him.

Viktor, der Vampir

viktorIQ5I2.jpg

The servant of Satan leads the troops of Hell and acts as Ludwig's contact to Satan.

Never trust him. Never.

Fighting isn't always the solution for problems

Vendolin: "That was a close one. I have to find another way."

He has followed the path up, but he was encountered by a big, strong enemy. He lost the fight and escaped. Now he has to find another solution.

Vendolin: "It looks as beautiful as dangerous"

Features:

  • Atleast 2 solutions for every quest/problem (guaranteed after you have been freed by Vendolin)
  • a bit of variety conditional on the alignment

Since it is my very first project, the "feature" of the alignment and with that connected variety of endings, happenings and solutions is the focus and the core of Dark Crusades.

Well then. Critiques and motivation are very welcome. Since I am in my finals (ending June 14th) and I am hopefully will start the bachelor for ITS in september, I am not sure if I can give very regular updates. But I wish so.

Did I something wrong, or is there just too few things to write about?

This seems like a good attempt for a first project judging by what I'm seeing, the characters could use more detail but I do like the story because it's not one-sided good beats evil (That idea is just stupid beyond stupid in my opinion) which most games follow all too often.

You don't need other people to motivate you as I've found out, just focus on creating the game and you'll become immersed in it - You won't need motivation.

I do find it odd however that the PC looks different in the two pictures, are there perhaps two protagonists? One in the prologue and the other for the game itself?

With writing I am more the "stomach"-writer. Atleast recording to game development. So the characters will gain their depth with the development progress.

Well, the first picture you encounter just till your death. The new body (He needs one. Otherwise he immediately would be recognised by count Ludwig.)

The "Cross-border commuter" (it is just a translation of the German "Grenzgänger", so far. Maybe I'll find a better expression.), as he is called in the second picture, is a mystique legend, who was projected since the battle between good and evil started (Adam's and Eve's sons killing each other). He is feared of both sides and shall stand for the perversity of defining good and evil.

I hope you'll understand my confused thoughts.^^
