qWzf1OF.gif  Look, animation!

So, it's a nine tailed fox.  I've been working for a while on this guy, and now I need some advice on where to go with him.  I like him, it's just it seems a little off somehow.

Looking for general critique, feedback, praise, glory on high... things of that nature.  Try to be specific when reviewing.

EDIT: Animation!

AWWWW It's sooo cute!!! However the ears look a little small compared to the rest of its body. The eyes look slanted and makes it look mad-looking. Idk if the nose is on the mouth, but you should move it up a bit...(or maybe I don't see the nose xD idk). Still CUTE THO!

I actually forgot to put the new ears before I posted.  (doh!)  That's prolly what threw it off for me.  I actually want it mad/serious looking, so it''s good to know that's conveyed.

And I have no idea about the nose T_T  I can't really make it's snout any thinner or it could make it look odd...

Great job there!

Looks badass, and a little cute. XD

I wonder how it'll be when you actually make it's tails longer XDXD

I like it, ears do need to be longer tho, especially if you're going for a demon fox kind of thing.

I'd use it :D

Haha I totally realized that after I colored it XD

9/10! 10/10 if you manage to animate the tails.

I'm working on that next.  And then recolors (cause yellow foxes aren't the only kind)

question is can you make an epic battler to match the awesome sprite :)

oh btw I would use the snout from the first sprite on the 2nd sprite then make the tail's 3 pixel's bigger to emphasise their length :)

That would be awesome to have a battler but I suck at that kind of art.

I thought about using the old snout, I just might now that you suggested it.  I'll have to see about the tail length...

Thanks.  Oh god, there is no drive to animate the tails.  It's so difficult >_<  But imma working on it

Nice new fox! If only there was a second button to hit "like", I WOULD. I can't wait to unleash a fox monster in my game (of course credit to you!) :D.

Semi-unimportant update

I am working on the fox still, animating it is the only trouble I'm stuck on.  I may have a solution, the main post will be updated with progress later...

The tails are changing, so sorry if you liked these ones.

Also, yes or no on that face?

Yes, that face is awesome. The colors are too saturated in comparison to the sprite, but the style is proficient. However, subjectively speaking (expressing opinion of course, and not fact) I believe the face should be in the "3-Quarter View".

Why? If you noticed, most RTP Faces are in this 3-Quarter View, this is because (out of my theory) it subjectively expresses an acknowledgement of the player without breaking the fourth wall / being blatantly. I may be the only one who has this theory, or everyone may already know, but the discreet tradition of setting the 3-Quarters View has a reason for being the "main" face.

Yes, you can use a side-profile view, usually under the circumstance of a monologue, inability to acknowledge the situation (which also means inability to acknowledge the player) and does not want to display their feelings towards another (indirectly the player).

And out of my opinion, the main character should never do this if you follow the true RPG Genre. Similar to the "Silent Protagonist" trope.

This is mainly a subjective criticism, I forgot the other type of criticism when it comes to Art Critique (I haven't been in School for a month). Your face is beyond fine (except try to lower the saturation of the yellow in the face) and I admonish you not to trash it.

Ah, I hadn't noticed that.  Regrettably, I drew this off a base (I'm unable to draw any sort of animal realistically) so adjusting perspective will be difficult.

As for the saturation, I was half asleep trying to color, so I will go back an adjust accordingly.

Admonish.  Whoa, I have not heard anyone use that term in a long time.  What I mean't by trash was to "archive" it.  I keep much of my old work for improvement's sake.  Thank you for the critique.

No problem, if only I was able to finish any of my work. Let alone start it. But what you have now is a useful reference for adjusting the perspective, just switch back in forth between your Face and your Sprite and it'll be much easier than you think. If you need any help, try starting with just contour lines.

The advice is much appreciated.  I'm like 75% done with animation on the tails, then I just need to work on the subtle bouncing and she will be done.

That face will take way longer though...

Animation's up.  Check it at the main post. Thoughts?

I had a few frames ready to show you the basics of characterset animation but it looks like you've done a great job with that :)

You did kinda jump into the deep end with that many parts to animate but you've pulled it off. There's a few little bits which could flow better and you can greatly reduce the number of colours since that'd help you animate.

I think I jumped into the deep end of the deep end lol

I admit, there are some bits that could flow more smoothly (and there's only 7 tails not 9) but overall I'm pleased.  I'd love to see the frames you came up with though.

Thanks to all who have been watching this thread.  The support helped push me near the end animating this thing.
