Author's Note

Long time ago, probably influenced by quite depressing weather, that lasted for few days I’ve decided to create a certain game in which I wanted to reflect my thoughts at that time. At first it wanted to just create an abandoned, seemingly endless city in which player would wander around. It was supposed to be just a pointless “game" at that time. When I seriously started working on it, I began to come up with some ideas for events. Later on, I menaged to make something, vaguelly resembling a plot. Work was going on well for a while. But at some point, I just somehow neglected whole game, and it was left unfinished.

Few years later, I felt like I should try finish making this game. I dig out some of my old notes holding vague informations about plot and tried to somehow improve it beforehand. But rather than improve current plot, I came up with story, explaining how main heroine ended up in place from Divinity Fatum. That’s how idea for the prequel game was born, and that’s how I started working on Divinity Fatum :Birth:.

In theory, :Birth: was supposed to be more linear and story-like, but I wasn’t really that concerned about that. I just wanted to tell a certain story. However, I couldn’t really use graphics from the first game, as first - they didn’t fit the atmosphere of the game, and second - I wasn’t finding them appealing anymore. Thus I’ve created most of the graphics from scratch once again, and slowly worked on the game. I was also polishing the story alone, and in the meantime I came up with something, that could be called a final part of the series. The idea of Divinity Fatum Trilogy was born that way. However, shortly after my joy of coming up with almost complete plot, I’ve meet with some technical problems so bothersome that they made me neglect :Birth: as well. Thus, second game was abandoned in it’s early stage, while the final one was never even created.

Few more years have passed and now here I am - once again returning to Divinity Fatum. This time I’ve decided to recreate first game and merge ideas from all three games into this one. First thing I did was switching from RPG Maker XP to RPG Maker VX Ace. Both have flaws, but Ace seems to let me avoid certain technical problems, that I had while making previous games. I changed story a bit to suit the current idea, and added some new things overall. Also, because my skills got better over all these years, and I’ve gained a lot of experience in the meantime, working on this game seems to go very fluid. I hope that this time I won’t fail.

Story

Protagonist of the story - whose name we're not granted to know - finds herself in desolate, endless city. Not remembering anything about herself, nor knowing how she ended in this place, her only choice is to wander around town in hope of finding a way to escape. On her journey she finds certain clues, slowly leading her to an answer of what this city is and most important - who, or rather what she really is.

As mentioned in summary above, this game’s story takes place in endless city, which player has to explore in order to find new clues. Concept of the game was somewhat based on “Yume Nikkiâ€, when it comes to wandering and exploration part. However be aware that instead of having many small, yet diversed maps, you walk around big city in which it is almost sure that player will get lost. Because of that it is advised to play this game only if you consider yourself patient enough and able to immerse yourself with the story.

For these who just want to go for the story, without experiencing feeling of being lost, and immersing themselves into atmosphere of the game, I wrote a pretty much spoiler-free walkthrough with few additional instructions. It pretty much only tells where events are located. Hope it’ll help:

Characters

protagonist.png

In game we take control over nameless female protagonist. Story revolves around slowly figuring out who she is. Because of that, there is no further need to describe her.

Somehow this has gotten no attention. The art style is really haunting, I'll definitely be trying this even just to see what it's like.

Yeah, I wonder why nobody even viewed this topic (now it's 54 views, but till now it was 0). It seems to be fate of this game, I guess - to not be known XD

There's an issue with the view counter when there are no replies I think, so even though it said 0 there were probably some views.

I love the gritty art style, looks great - nice work! Will have to try to find time to give the demo a whirl one day

I'd suggest waiting for next demo. I've changed hint system as well as few other things, so it should be far easier to find everything now.

Yea! The art is fantastic imo. I will edit this post once I played some of it ^_^. Is that slenderman? I really hope there are no super scary parts in your game D:...

edit: wow the beginning was good... I want to record >_>... I'll make another edit soon, hahaha...

Edit2: I played the game for around 10 minutes and... I was too scared to continue playing T_T... So it's a great game! xD I'll show you a video of where I stopped lol... Gah... >_> The setting, theme, and dialogue are well mixed together and deliver a potential of scary I have not seen in an RPGvxace game (from my experience ^^).

Edit3: Video... Lols

Thanks. I don't really think that this game is that scary, or anything thought. If anything, I'd consider it creepy, personally. Anyway I'm curious where have you ended your adventure in this game :P

@GreyInvidia, I am surprised too that this game has not received a lot of demo players yet. The graphics, art, mapping looks promising. Ill give it a try and post a review for you when I get the time. :)

Those words on the wall were the ones which added the tension. :o

Yeah, I guess this is pretty much first somewhat creepy event in this game. People usually get freaked out arund second part of the game, thought.

Anyway cool to know you're enjoying game so far :D

I regretted picking up that book on the road. anyway I am done, and I think I got a bad ending D: making up the review now

EDIT:

Finished Reviewing the game.

You may find the review topic here. :)

EDIT:

I replayed the game with your guide, and now that I am a bit used to the music, I have noticed grammatical errors.

I would list down the places where I found those below so you could fix it. Good luck on the game. :)

I'd like to announce updated demo for the game. It covers pretty much whole first two acts of the game (there is only one entry in the game that I must do to have these acts done completely). I've also made change to the Intuition system, making it less invasive and more useful than the previous one. There are many other changes about which you can read on Divinity Fatum blog (link on the bottom of the first post).

Anyway, without prolonging - link to the updated demo: http://www.mediafire.com/download/oa3nfihqboh325b/Divinity_Fatum.exe

Enjoy.

EDIT: There was a certain problem with running the game, but it should be working now. You can download working version via link above.

Want to make notice of a small update in which some bugs were taken care of:

First one, I spotted while watching fuandon's Let's Play of Divinity Fatum (check it out on YT, if you're curious). Basically, bug let player get to the 3rd act (or at least where it's supposed to be) withut getting all events. Technically clue "I Love you" and following ones were necessary to trigger events appearing later on in act 2 (that is "World Ends Diary" and following). Getting these is necessary to get different "ending", leading to mentioned act 3. Update solves that problem in such way, that getting these events isn't really needed in order to advance to act 2, but they must be get to unlock additional events in second act.

Another thing happens after finishing "Stab Town" event. Basically, upon trying to reenter the room where diary entry lies, player doesn't get teleported back to the room, but instead send to the stab town once again. This problem was also taken care of.

And well, that's all that was reported to me so far, considering all kinds of bugs n stuff.

Now what I need to work on is scenario of 3rd act. I have certain parts that I want to put in there, as well as vague idea of what I want to happen, but connecting all these events seems to be problematic... which is not really anything new.

Anyway link to the updated demo stays the same. It's downloadable in first post. If anyone would like to back themselves up with walkthrough, here's the updated one too: http://divinityfatum.blogspot.com/p/walkthrough.html

Also, geez... this is such unloved game XD...

Redownload-ing the game. Maybe its because that the game is a horror game. Might give a review after re-downloading it. xD
