Tsarmina 2,612 Posted February 17, 2014 @Cait: It's good for your first try! The chin should be a little more rounded, and the eyes higher up. You can also give them more depth by shading more around the pupil and edges of the eyes, and shading on the face will also enhance this (I can tell your light source is coming from the left, glad it's identifiable). Really good for a first one ^-^ When I do my art, I lineart it in Photoshop for a great line look, and then color it in Corel (beautiful program by the way). Cait 385 Posted February 17, 2014 Thanks! I hope to improve more and more, life is about challenges. Hmm, the only thing I gained is confidence and dropped perfection. Yes, by Jove, I think I got it. I'll take a look at corel in the meantime. Must work on lips, eye shapes and noses and learning to do multiple directions for heads. Now, hairstyles is going to be hard, as I have practically has the same style for awhile. ...sadly.
Tsarmina 2,612 Posted February 17, 2014 Don't be afraid to look at stuff online ^-^ I'm not a fringe person, I prefer a sidesweep or pulled-back, so when I draw fringes of any kind I still look on Google for some inspiration. ^-^
Cait 385 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) It never occurred to me to google, anything, but I found some hair as I was practicing.. My eyes I need work, as do my mouths, but the hair only needs minor edits. o.o I think I finally understand shading for hair. Eye shapes are another, looked up tutorials and still have trouble. Hmm, I might have to find another tutorial. UPDATE: Here is the progression of my faces from my old one to my newest one. You'll notice that I didn't like the face color or the eyes, removed them. I looked up a tutorial and honestly, I think something isn't clicking. But my progression is amazing from yesterday to today, my hair has massively improved. At least, I think. I wasn't meaning for the girl to be an Asian, but it just happened that way, I guess. You'll never mistake it for the RTP, I can assure you, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Almost one year ago, something started to click and my art has improved. *Even if I still have 40 pages to edit*. Edited February 18, 2014 by Cait
Spectre 829 Posted February 18, 2014 Uploaded a lil' something for ya with regards to the hair. Hopefully this helps to customize your fringes better. Also, a tip; shade according to how you think the individual strands or "worms" would look, rather than the whole head of hair.
Cait 385 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) Going to change my reaction. Thanks that advice does help with hair shading, only not always sure what to do with Bobs. It's straight and isn't like your examples. Well, some are, but not this paricular person. I am still stuck on eyes, so I think I'll just with the first type. I might have to learn eyes, nose, and the mouth before I go on. Thank you guys for all your advice and just generally how wonderfully friendly you guys are. There are always honest people, good points and how you can improve. You leave your topic feeling confident like you could take over the world. This is is a very positive place and I am blessed that you accept me, despite my occasional flaw. Thank you! I hope to post more pictures in the future. This is something I enjoy doing, even if my skill isn't up to yours, yet. I am always seeking to better myself, get more confident and feel better about myself. I and everyone here are worthwhile people to know. Don't let anyone say otherwise. Edited February 18, 2014 by Cait
Cait 385 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) Well I took a break from drawing faces and decided to practice a bit doing physical people. I was practicing and suddenly something clicked. My first drawing isn't worth showing as it is really doll like and positioned funny. This one isn't and is pretty good. Considering I had trouble with hair in past pictures. I think I am really proud of this one. I am sorry for the bad picture but I don't have a scanner. This was the only way I could show it to you. Update: I discovered that I still suck at hands, arms, feet and somewhat legs. If anyone has advice, please give me tips. I just can't get them to look natural. Oh, tried drawing a guy only you are boards... Straight down. Hmm, any tutorials on the male shape? Edited March 4, 2014 by Cait
Tsarmina 2,612 Posted March 4, 2014 WBRUH has a pretty good guide on here. It's not a tutorial, but it's helpful. ^-^ Hands are always tricky. They're something you have to learn. I started by looking up poses on the Internet and stuff, but something they still get me. (Especially when it comes to foreshortening...)
Cait 385 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) I'll check it out. I did another one and took the advice from kentard's about fringes and think it turned out even better. Though, the quality of the picture sucks. T.T otherwise, i would post it. Edited March 4, 2014 by Cait
Cait 385 Posted March 19, 2014 I have put aside doing faces for awhile but not only has my physical art improved but so has my digital art. I got a request to do 3D textures and while I would love to do it. I am not confident enough to do it. I decided to see if I could create a pattern in rpg maker; wood as it is my weakest texture so to speak. I failed at it of course. However I think I created something really neat. I added the hole and such. While it isn't realistic form of a tree I think it's pretty good. I still would like a tablet but can not afford one yet. I know when I do my art will improve once I get used to using a pen so to speak. Unfortunately it isn't usable in rpg maker which is why it's a failure. Tsarmina 2,612 Posted March 19, 2014 The ridges are really nice. Despite my usual dislike of a extremely soft, almost furry style, for some reason I like yours. ^^ Holes are actually not very common in trees, though knots are. (Still, nothing wrong with the one you have there.) Some of the highlights, especially that one on the farthest right, are really strong and don't blend aw well as the other grooves/ridges that you had. kaz 1,338 Posted March 19, 2014 Holes are actually not very common in trees, Perhaps a woodpecker got carried away @Cait Try drawing your own hand- I find that helps with finger positions.
Cait 385 Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) Yeah I noticed that will likely go back and do some more work on it. The more work I do the better it gets I think. This was created because I tried to make a pattern for rpg maker because someone asked me if I did 3D textures. I admit that I have wanted to create those and maybe even create my own game in Unity. I am far away from where I need to be to be able to do that. @Kaz I never thought about drawing my own hand. Why not I'll give it a try. It's just so crazy that it might work. Cait 385 Posted February 10, 2015 I am trying to learn how to do logos and to do that, I am recreating some famous logos like the one from Uninvited. I want to keep my logos simple and yet, very expressive. I created the envelope by hand and used a pattern from rpg maker for the logo. I am not creating logos, merely learning how to do them. So, what do you think?
Cait 385 Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) Another study lesson for logos, except this time, Little Nemo (again from the Nintendo). I did the background, except I used a bit from Rpg maker vx ace. This is more of a remaster and not an exact duplicate. Edited February 11, 2015 by Cait
BluMiu 128 Posted February 12, 2015 Yeah, I think I understand completely what you're saying. As for your question, yes, I do use a mouse, because I can't afford a tablet or even know how to use one. I've been practicing with my mouse for a while, plus, I'm really good with curvy movements. Honestly, the mouse moves like that, so it's like an extension of my hand, but straight lines... I have a bit of trouble with those. I said I wouldn't do another food picture, so I did something this morning. Sigh, dark thoughts, but cute kitten pictures. I'm complicated and rather complex. Anyway, one part of it is based on Super Mario (you'll see what I mean) UPDATED: There was something about the picture that I didn't like so I edited the outside, plus changed the eyes a bit and added a bow with a better end of the bottom. I, also, made the balloon transparent and added a bit of a glow. I think I might have to make the pink edge a little transparent and leave the white edge. This reminds me of the Super Mario days You're doing very well for someone just getting back into art. It would be wonderful to see you work with a tablet and pen. Cait 385 Posted February 12, 2015 Thanks! I am hoping to get a tablet, but it's money right now. On the positive note, I edited the last logo I did and added quite a bit of stuff.
+ dbchest 160 Posted February 13, 2015 oh my god! is that last logo a bit from "Little Nemo," where the kid goes to Slumberland!?!? the bed reminds me of the part where the leg posts grow so tall, and he rides the bed through the wilderness! talk about nostalgia!
Cait 385 Posted February 13, 2015 Yeah, it is. I wish I had seen the "Little Nemo" only I played the Nintendo game..Ah, it is very nostalgic!
Cait 385 Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) Inspired by Sugar Sweet, and a wip at the moment. I just want to get better at creating interesting titles, plus, simple newest version Edited February 20, 2015 by Cait
+ dbchest 160 Posted February 21, 2015 use a texture or pattern overlay above the background for a nice effect. have fun with it and find something that looks nice!
BluMiu 128 Posted February 28, 2015 Thanks! I am hoping to get a tablet, but it's money right now. On the positive note, I edited the last logo I did and added quite a bit of stuff. Little Nemo, wish I still had that movie Didn't know there was a game for it, unless it was that long ago I forgot.
Cait 385 Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) It was for the Nintendo and it could be much better today, actually. Update: a logo in the oops, didn't work exactly the way I was hoping it would. I wanted to use the sword for both words, so it would read "Death Train", but I had the feeling that my brother would see, "Death Rain". Which sadly, he did, so I have no clue on how to get this to look right. Edited March 1, 2015 by Cait
Spectre 829 Posted March 1, 2015 Try two swords? Angling them would give a more natural look, while creating a focal point for the logo.
Cait 385 Posted April 23, 2015 Hello! I had a request to redo a picture that I had done a long time ago. It was for their twitter header and I have majorly improved... Here's the new one. I might make some changes here and there.
