Fantasy Realm : Ideas and Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hello! I'm needing ideas and suggestions for this game project. Project about fantasies and myths and stuff. Right now, this are the only things I have made/planned...

     A. Characters ( IN - GAME )

        1. Lloyd - Main protagonist of the story ( if player chooses male ), a good friend to Lorelei and together they were transported to the Fantasy Realm after accidentally activating a magic portal. Skilled with bows and cheerful

        2. Lorelei - Main protagonist of the story (if player chooses female ), same story as Lloyd. Skilled at both swords/bow and magic but very serious, opposite to Lloyd.

        3. Sylva - Lively fairy from the starting place in the Fantasy Realm ( I haven't named it yet, sorry :) ) which became friends with the main protagonists. Helpful to others, this fairy is skilled with Elemental/Earth magic which consists of mostly healing and supporting the other members of the party.

        4. Lux ( -could be changed- ) - Serious and cunning in battle, this fairy from the Ruins Isle can be a major pain in the butt even with his petite size due to the immense strength of his Light Magic.

        5. Elementals

                a ) Pyrea/Phoenixia

Hot-headed fire elemental that lives in a heart of a volcano. Sets her enemies ablaze with Fire Magic ( thank you, captain obvious! :) )

                b ) Pacifica

Water elemental that lives in a sacred lake that can be accessed only by magic. Skilled in Water Magic, her role in the party is mostly healing and supporting but she can still fight through water and ice.

                c ) Gaia

Earth Elemental living deep inside the Mistwood Forest in the first isle the player will start into. Being in the isle where the player starts, she is the first elemental that the main protagonist will meet. Skilled with Earth magic which consists of protecting or attacking enemies through vines and boulders.

                d ) Zephyra

Wind elemental living in the Heaven's Isles which can be accessed by climbing a tall stalk of plant found on the Isle of Ruins. Once fought in the War of Spirits, she is skilled in Wind Magic and is very agile/quick in battle.

                e) Celestia

Light elemental found deep in a place located in the Heaven's Isles. Being a light elemental, she is skilled in Light Magic which is mostly used for healing and supporting but can do massive damage as well.

                f) Dark Elemental

Dark elemental living in his castle located in the Nightmare Isles who plans to reign the two worlds, both the real world and Fantasy Realm, by starting a 2nd War of Spirits. Governor of darkness, he uses shadows and darkness in battle and whenever needed, he will cheat just to win.

        6. Noah - Master at Spirit Magic, he is capable of doing massive damage to enemies. Although master at this kind of magic, he is not from the Fantasy Realm, an outsider whom just like the main protagonist, just transported here in this place.

        7. Eclipse ( -could be changed- ) - Master at Dark Arts, this necromancer journeys in the Fantasy Realm seeking for his identity. Together with Noah, the Spirit Mage, they got transported in the Fantasy Realm through the use of their combined powers. Before they were still friends but due to an unknown reason, they became enemies and both parted ways.

    B. Characters ( GUEST/SPECIAL )

        1. Johnny Arisato - A real tall ( 6 foot 3) person with a kind heart that got sucked accidentally to the Fantasy Realm. Skilled at swords and daggers. Very serious but helpful to the game's characters in terms of supporting like giving power ( through his persona, Messiah ) encouragement, information, weapons, and other stuffs. Close friends with Lloyd and Lorelei. Became a persona-user in the Fantasy Realm through his persona, Messiah. Master at everything. Although serious, he has feelings for Sylva. Now in the Fantasy Realm, Johnny journeys towards the Heaven's Isles where all the dead goes in hope of finding his long-lost dead family who died when he was young. His past is a painful one. He's the game's quartermaster.

[ A character brought to you by James Kelvin M. Camarines from his project "Persona", which makes this a somewhat flashback of Johnny Arisato's story. ]

        2. Other Mythological Beings

              a.) -Ghost Lady-

Spirit from the Heaven's Isles whose real identity is unknown. Though mysterious, this spirit has a kind heart and will help the main characters in there journeys.

              b.) -Ice Lady-

Guardian of Frost Towers ( any good suggesstions for another name? ) located in the cold regions of the 2nd Isle which is needed in order to reach to the water elemental, Pacifica ( due to the fact that the water elemental, Pacifica's place can only be accessed through a magic portal )

              c.) Kappa

Friendly being living deep beneath the Lake of Infinite Depths. Powerful and strong, this being is a master at Water Magic and even without magic, this being is a force to be reckoned with due to his immense strength. Although friendly, Kappa can be mischievious at times, especially with women and children.

             d.) Leon

Lycanthrope ( werewolf ) warrior extraordinaire living deep inside the forests of Mistwood that fights for justice.

             e.) Ethan

Bloodsucker ( vampire ) from the Nightmare Isles who's a servant of Spectra, the Dark Elemental. Uses shadows and darkness in battle. Although inclined with evil, he has a kind heart and will do anything to help. In the story, he will be the one serving the traitor role to help the protagonists reach Spectra.

             f.) Minerva

Dryad ruling the tribe of Leon ( no name yet ). Skilled with Earth Magic, she uses vines and boulders in battle.

    C. Places

        1. Fantasy Realm - A realm found in between dream and reality. Place where all mythical creatures such as fairies, elves, and dwarfs originated

        2. Heaven's Isles - Place where heavenly beings such as angels and wind elementals lives. Also a place where all the dead souls goes which is why Johnny Arisato journeys here in hope of finding his family.

        3. Blossom Citadel - a kingdom found in the Fantasy Realm wherein the inhabitants h=mostly have an element of earth. Beautiful and peaceful place.

        4. Blossom Hall - a building used for gatherings and meetings ( of leaders of each kingdom, kings and queens, maybe, stuff like that... ) inside the Blossom Citadel which doubles as the mansion of a royalty.

        5. Ruins Isles - An isle once inhabited by light-element beings ( perhaps it could be wind-type... ) but abandoned due to the War of Spirits.

        6. Lake of Infinite Depths - Sacred lake found at the center of the main island where the water elemental, Pacifica, lives.

        7. Starlight Cliffs - Cliffs found on the barren deserts of the 3rd Isle. Place where the legendary flower, Starlight Flower ( hence the name ), that only blooms once a year ( maybe every 100 years ) can be found

    D. Terms

        1. War of Spirits - a war that happened eons ago where the Fantasy Realm was engulfed by chaos.

        2. Spirit Magic - a type of magic wherein the user "taps" the power of his or her surroundings to use against his/her enemies that can only be used and mastered by humans

        3. Elemental Magic - a type of magic similar to Spirit Magic, although this can only be used and mastered by the inhabitants of Fantasy Realm.

        4. PersonaTM - a type of power whereas the user "taps" the power inside him/her and transform it into a being that can be controlled by the user itself and use it against his/her enemies, more like a summon, although this power can only be used by humans

        5. Persona-userTM- term used for persons who use Personas

  E. Story

       ...

  F. Questions

For anyone who will read this topic, please refer to the questions below...(thanks in advance for anyone who answers and thank you for those who answered already )

           1. Any ideas for the name of the fire elemental ending in -a to pair with the names of the other elementals ( Pacifica, Zephyra, etc. )?

           2. Same as question #2, any idea for a name of the light elemental? ( I'm thinking of naming her Celestia but any other suggestions would make me even happier :) )

          3. Should I make the map with more forests or same as the sample fields together with the RPGMakerVXAce package?

          4.  Same as question #1 and #2, any good suggestion for the ghost lady and the ice lady?

          5.  Any good suggestion for another name of this project ( since I find the current name for the said project a bit lame... :( )

          6. Any good name for the tribe?

          7. Which mapping technique should I use, parallax or the present one in the package?

      ...

( Note* = Numbers 4 & 5 of set D and number 1 of set B are trademark to James Kelvin M. Camarines'  project Persona )

How are they transported to the fantasy realm?

Can you rewrite Johnny Arisato to be your own original character?

Is this a battle oriented game?

Are the elementals summons or full fledged characters?

I'd recommend changing the name of your starting fairy as Sylva is strongly related to Earth/Wood/... (silva = forest in latin), I also find that Sylva is kind of redundant with the Light elemental

Other than that it's difficult to have an opinion because we lack the background of your world.

Are the elementals summons or full fledged characters?

For your first question, I haven't planned yet how they got transported but mostly for sure it will be caused by magic ( perhaps they got deep inside a hidden temple and activated a portal towards the Fantasy Realm, stuff like that. )

For your second  question, sorry I cannot rewrite Johnny Arisato to be my own original character because first of all I have not my permission to do it, second it is my friend's, and third my friend just asked me to make a cameo of his character in this game project for the purpose of giving hint or whatever.

For your third question, this game project (which in fact has just begun recently )can be or can be not battle-oriented although I think its not but maybe it is :)

For your fourth question, the elementals are not summons but full fledged characters which is why they would be in the team or party of the player starting in some points of the game. Also, these elementals are needed in order to advance in the game due to the fact the power of the elementals are needed in order for the main characters to get back to the real world.

Thank you for asking by the way, Wren. I'll add some of these information in the first post I made.

For you Fielleux, sorry if I lack the background of the said world but thanks for noticing the said problem  about the name of the fairy, Sylva. Either I change it to elemental magic or I change the name of this fairy ( or maybe I could use this as the name for the earth elemental :) ). Anyways, thank you but can you suggest me a good name for this fairy if it will be a light element fairy?

Well if you want to stay with the same kind of construction for your names you'd have

Phota/Phos ==> light in greek

Lux ==> light in latin

You can work with those as bases for names for light elemental (or you can search for mythological random divine light ; sorry I don't know of any)

Thanks anyway, Fielleux, this will be a great help. Is there anything you would like to add base from the earliest post?

To whom it may concern, can you give me answer to any of these questions?

           1. Should I make the game choose the gender or make two separate games?

           2. Any ideas for the name of the fire elemental ending in -a to pair with the names of the other elementals ( Pacifica,  Zephyra, etc. )?

           3. Same as question #2, any idea for a name of the light elemental? ( I'm thinking of naming her Celestia but any other suggestions would make me even happier  :) )

1. In the openning post you said that both of them have the same story so chosing the gender will on change the 'gameplay' (as in different battle styles). Making two games with the exact same story would be a bit strange.

2. Empyrea, Pyrea... both of them are based off a greek noun (but note that "Empyrée" -sorry it's in French, I don't know you call it in english- can also described the highest place in "Heavens" -this words means little to nothing in greek mythology- so you can use it for your light elemental)

3. Celestia is kinda cool, straightforward and simple so that you immediatly know what it refers to

Maybe some storyline ideas? Or some gap-fillers anyway.

Main Characters
First thing that pops up into my mind is that there has to be a reason that they are the ones to be on the island and discover the portal.
Scientists maybe? Or a stray lucrative explorer looking for some good money?
Perhaps they even came with a bigger team to research but were the only ones teleported by the portal as they were dangerously close.

The Beginning of an Adventure
As they enter the fantasy realm, they get caught up in the (strange/dangerous?) events going on there. Things are being corrupted, peaceful mythological creatures go wild, etc.
They may reason that the happenings have something to do with the portal and their arrival, and not every fantasy creature will immediately trust them as 'strangers'.
Yet their knowledge of there being such a portal device is important, so they can get motivated to talk to an authorative figure in the fantasy world. This authority figure can either help them on their way, or be a total fraud working under the necromancer. In the latter case he would definitely be tipping off the necromancer that others of his world have arrived and need to be executed.

Gaining Friends through Toilsome Experiences
The heroes decide to travel around and see if there is anyone with the knowledge about these portals, a maker perhaps. It's their closest guess as to how they can return home to their families.
They encounter more and more friends, saving people from occuring trouble.
Meanwhile the twisted necromancer may be the one trying to exploit and 'feed' off the magic power in the fantasy world, wishing to become powerful. But the heroes find out that magic is important and links both worlds together. So they need to stop the necromancer before he kills both worlds, draining them of power. If he does succeed, the heroes will not only lose their way home, but both worlds will decay.

Coming to an Agreement
The necromancer learns that the heroes are 'recruiting' people of the fantasy world into their personal army (the party) and starts seeing them as a nuisance. He uses his power to send monsters (bosses) their way.
At first he underestimates the heroes, but soon he realizes that they have a certain willpower and have come a long way. It endangers his plans as he's secretly starting to get a little fidgety about the pests. He decides a new approach, striking a deal.
He promises the heroes a way back home, safe passage, in trade for them no longer interfering and giving him the object needed to power a portal. The Fantasy cast will object to striking a deal, but the heroes want to go home rather badly and agree.
Retrieving this object takes a while, but they succeed. The object holds immense magical power that can power the amazing portal device.

Last Stand
The necromancer breaks his promise and steals the object. The magic power inside the key item is not only strong enough to power the portal, it can also be drained of that immense power. With it, he retreats to his hideout.
The heroes know it's all or nothing now and they decide to infiltrate his hideout, maybe a castle, entire city with undead minions, something like that. They learn of a secret passage in by someone.
The necromancer drains the object of magic before the heroes defeat him and turns into his 'ultimate' form.
Once the heroes defeat him the magic seeps out of the necromancer, restoring power to the nearby portal he was wishing to use as an energy drain to both worlds. This concludes the adventure.

And maybe some name-ideas. ^^;

Names based on forms of ghost/spirit/death:
Spectra,

Anima,

Suspiria,

Necriti,

Morticia

As for ice:
Glacina,

Lady Frigus,

Frosty,

Esli,

Kelys

Altough I usually go for something that has nothing to do with the element, as it may sound familiar to some people. But I always take hours to come up with good names. ><;

I can't come up with a better name for your project, but perhaps you could base it on an important item in your game or the actual name of the Fantasy Realm.

Like the Real World being 'Earth' the Fantasy Realm could have a name which would also be your game name.

Here are some names meaning light:

http://www.behindthename.com/names/search.php?nmd=mdu&terms=light

My personal favorites being

Cahaya and Lucina

I LOVE this webpage for character creation because it doesn't just give the meaning, but the etymology of the names! You can search for meanings so you could try searching for "ice" or "spirit" or "ghost" and seeing what you come up with :)  Also, you can narrow down the search using gender filters.

As for a name for the title, maybe Songs of Eternia? Or Light of Eternia? Is the Spirits part you don't like or the Eternia? If you don't like Eternia, you could try Lestari, so maybe Light of Lestari?

Good luck on your project, it's very interesting! Reminds me of Magic Knight Rayearth in a good way :)

          6. Any good name for the tribe?

          7. Which mapping technique should I use, parallax or the present one in the package?

1) Ignitia; "ignis" is Latin for fire.

2) Stella; Latin for star. (As you can see, I like Latin.) You can also use one of my favorite names, Phaethusa, who was a daughter of the light god Apollo. Or Soledad, "sol" means sun.

3) ...Sorry, I don't really understand the question ^^" Um...I like foresty places, if that helps. Provides a sense of wilderness, and with sunlight and sparkles, it lends a dryad/magic feel to a place.

4a) The ghost lady: Spirituel, Phantasia (play on words of "fantasia"), Invisette (invisible), Umbra (shadow/shade)

4b) The ice lady: Crysterielle, Khione (Greek snow goddess), Boreia (borea: winter, cold), Frost

5) Maybe Opinabilis? It's Latin (again) for "imaginary, unreal" which could easily translate to "fantasy."
