!i!i!i!i~Pause Screen With Choices~i!i!i!i!

Recommended Posts

There are plenty of pause scripts out there (I would know, I have tried tweaking nearly all of them) and there are quite a few game over scene scripts with choices. But is there, or could there be, a pause screen with choices? Pause the game, and selections are shown. Resume, Options, Exit, Etc. If anyone knows of, or could whip up a script like this, that would be awesome!

Thanks in advance! :)

(A little more info)

My current project is using the Arc Engine. Now it would be simple to just have a common event or something open up a choice command when a button is pressed, but if the character is moving and a message box or choice window is opened up the hero will continue to move if the directional key is being pressed when the message or choice box is pulled up (even if the left or right key is released.) But pause scripts actually make everything stop, so I need a pause script to stop everything, but I also need to allow players to resume, quit or open some options from the pause screen too.

So if there is a script that can do that, or if there is possibly a script call I could do to make everything stop, that would be great!

Have you used Yanfly's Stop All Movement script inside of that common event before you show the choices? I'm not sure if that would work or not, but you could give it a try.

Yup, I've already tried that one. And sadly while it will stop the player from moving forward, it doesn't cancel the Arc Engines gravity. Thanks for the post though! I appreciate it! :)

I think what I need to figure out is if there a way to open a choice window the same way the main menu would open or the same way a pause script would work. One that pauses the game completely while choices are made or till key input is detected. But, I'm not sure how I'd do that.

Bumb!

So is there really nothing out there like this? There are so many Game Over with Choices scripts, but there are no Pause with Choices scripts? If I were a scripter I would make it myself, but I'm not... So anyone, help? I would be so SO thankful if someone could make me a Pause scene that allowed choices. Or even if there were a way to make it so when it paused the game, it would turn on a switch that would allow a common event to run. Anything like that would work perfectly.

i'll look into this, but i'm far from advanced in the scripting field. i can do some things here and there, but a basic pause script doesn't seem like it would be too difficult. what features "in depth" do you want it to have? tell me "exactly" what you need.

also, consider that i have never experimented with Arcthunder's ARC engine. if there are specifics that would affect a script being installed under that engine, let me know.

Thank you so much Calintz! Even if you can't get anything to work, I'm just glad you've tried.

So far I have had no script conflictions with the Arc Engine, so I don't think a pause script will conflict with it (I've tried all of them out there. Lol!)

Specifics:

I would like 3 choices for the players, so however this would easily be accomplished for you is good for me. If the choices need to be implemented into the script, that's fine, or if the script will simply pause the game, but allow for a common event to activate with either a switch or direct activation that works too. (The common event is actually preferred, but whatever works is good for me.)

The choices I need to have are:

Continue. Allow players to un-pause the game

Level Select. Transfers the player to specific map (level selection screen)

Quit Game. Allows to either go back to the Title, and exit the game completely.

(Here's a rough example of what I'd prefer it to look like)

Thanks in advance, even if you can't get it to work right, I'm grateful that you would even try to help. I look forward to hear back! :D

alright. honestly, i should be able to do this for you.

i'll get to work on it after if finish up my custom menu status script (should be finishing it tonight at some point).

unless i'm missing something obvious...this script should be simple.

p.s. i like the cat that looks like a pop tart.

Thank you so much! I really wish I was better at RGSS3... I need to learn more about it. I can edit scripts just fine, but as far as building them from the ground up, I am stuck.

Lol! I'm glad you like the Pop Tart cat. I'm making a Nyan Cat game right now (if you haven't heard of Nyan Cat, you should look it up on YouTube.) It's kind of an older thing, but it still makes me laugh. And it inspired me to make a game, so I'm going to. Haha! And if you want to see what the game is going to look like (the one I need this script for) you can look for "A Grand Nyanventure" on YouTube. Then you might see why I've been so adamant about getting a script that works for me.

Again, thank you so much!

That's great to hear! I actually already swung by and commented on your menu script. It looks like a very amazing script! :) I love scripts that add to the game visually. I think they make it so much easier to be able to personalize your games.

i'm very surprised at how easy this script was to make...

here is a short list of the features i've included. let me know if it needs anything else.

changes scene (prevents you from moving character, message pop ups, etc...)

command window with three commands

  -  resume

  -  level select

  -  game end

resume or pressing the cancel button returns you to gameplay.

selecting level select will change the scene. you will need to specify the scene. look for it in the script. i have it noted for you.

selecting end game closes the current window and opens the default game end command window

  -  go to title

  -  shutdown

  -  cancel

options here are self-explanitory, nothing new.

that is pretty much it. need anything else?

That sounds exactly what I need! I am so excited to try this script out! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! :D

I'll get back with you once I have the chance to check out the script and if I find any bugs or can think of anything else, I'll be sure to let you know. And major credit is definitely going to be given!! :) Again, thank you so much!
