Saiffu 26 Posted September 1, 2013 (edited) [Title Screenshot] The gameplay of 'Elysian Requiem' is about exploring the world while learning more about the Norse, Greek and Japanese Mythology(as he have stated in his topic xD) while playing the character Kyriel. The game starts off with you returning to where you and his master Patrine started off. He then sleeps after this scene and later wakes up in a dream where he talks with his master. He would then be transported to some place where you would encounter some 'good' and 'bad' guys. You then start to battle the summons of the bad guy. The game uses Yanfly's Sideview Battle System and that is about it. No other add ons which would have made battles a little more exciting. Future battles would then be randomly encountered and that is what annoys me. There were a lot of random encounter battles considering the fact that the 1st Forest which you would go to and the village where you started on were very far from each other. If your main goal was just to inform us more information about the mythologies, you would have instead lessened the number of random encounters and focused more on giving information. It would have been better too if the monsters which we have encountered were the ones which was involved in the story. It may had affected the game a little bit instead of just placing those slimes and bats as a placeholder in battles. What makes the game a little enjoying is the trivias which the game gives. It really helps you gain more knowledge about the mythologies. That is the only positive point which I could spot on gameplay. :\ The story of the game is again, about Norse, Greek and Japanese mythology. This may be the only reason why I would want to play the game, to learn more. My only complaint about the story is you may have represented it in a better way. Instead of just showing us facts and what not about them, you may had some sort of mini game for every part of the story. The game may start to get repetitive when its only all about answering questions about them. So yeah, spice up the story telling process. Apparently, the music which was played in the games had their ups and downs. Some scenes had the appropriate music on and some scenes did not, the music was badly chosen on some scenes. For example, like playing a background music, for a span of 5-10 seconds. You might have considered not putting the background music there instead. I dont know why the game reached a size of 100+ MB considering that everything you used were in the RTP. RTP faces, RTP sprites, RTP tilesets and RTP BGM. You might have wanted to remove files which would not have been used. Again, there is nothing special here as almost all of the resources used were RTP, no special artwork or anything but maybe some additional soundtracks. You may have considered importing images which would have represented some scenes. Like when a new character would be stated, you might had shown the original image of the character first as that would really help us and let us learn more about the true them instead of just showing us a replica of how they look using the face generator. :\ Overall, this game would not be a game which you would play for fun but rather a game which you would play to gain more knowledge which is the real point of the game as the creator stated. The game seemed like it was rushed and it was not given time on considering the facts that you did not look for additional enhancements which the game could have had. Custom Systems, Add-Ons, Visual Aids and fitting music for each scene would have helped. I suggest you search more as there are really A LOT of resources available on the internet. All you have to do is search what you need and learn how to put it in the game. I give the game a 2/5 as it is not completely a game which has no sense but it has its key points like learning more and gaining more knowledge. That is all and I hope that you try to improve your game even if your only point on creating it is for learning. Again, thank you for reading and happy game making. Lowe29 0 Posted September 1, 2013 Everything you criticized about the game was spot on. I know I was lacking in certain areas and you pointed them out. We are on a tight schedule that's why the game feels rushed. Once we have finished our thesis, I plan to adjust the game and all the other details. One problem we had was presentation and your suggestion is really good. Thank you for the feedback and i will update it with your review in mind.
