Thank you!

I have to admit, when a resident reviewer such as yourself--yes, I enjoy reading your reviews, it makes me nervous. >///<

I'll try to not disappoint you or anyone with my game.

Aww, you aren't disappointing anyone. :) How could anyone be disappointed with your art; and, with that, the way you can just churn out portraits? ^-^ I don't know how you manage it so fast; I can't even get my linearts done most of the time because of all the work I have to do for other things...T-T Looking good though.

Well first I would draw them traditionally--using pencils and paper. Then I'd scan the picture then do the lineart--pretty much tracing it using a mouse and curve tool. The only thing that's takes my whole time is the coloring, which as you can see, its not very good. :/

Ah, I getcha~ I always hand-draw my characters on paper first too, and do the tracing method...but I use Photoshop, so I don't get the crisp vector effect, I end up stuck with Bitmap =.=" Still, having a tablet has made tracing easier for me.

The program I am using is Paint Tool SAI--ideal for drawing digital. :) I did try drawing on the tablet once--never liked the end result. It was really hard for me to draw using a styllus and it gave a very awkward feeling to my hands--never use it to draw lineart just use it for coloring. :)

I actually like the tablet, it feels more like a real pencil and less like I'm drawing with...I don't know...a brick? Just my mentality. ^^ But yes, it's ideal for coloring.

Paint Tool SAI is really good too, but I'm just like: Hmmm....It's weird. I would feel disloyal to Photoshop if I ditched it for Paint Tool...yeah, I have a weird mentality.

Oh? But I think SAI and PS are correlated since you can pretty much save the drawing you did in SAI as a PSD file, so if you want to add more coloring effects like grandient--since SAI is only for digital drawing purposes, Photoshop can do that. :) So if you have layers and layers of lineart and coloring in SAI it can be transfered to Photoshop. I use both of them actually, so feel like you are not betraying PS! xDD

I have some screenshot prepared for you :)

There it is! :DD
*note: if you are going to save it as a psd file, you can't change the lineart anymore, so be careful.

Untitled-2_zps4318d318.png

You can see here that the layering will still be the same so its easier for you to do some extra effects on the layer you want to, well, place effects in! lol

Ah. That's actually nice. (I don't use Paint SAI, so I wouldn't have known about this heehee). I might invest sooner or later...:D

Updated~!

See first page~

And please, if you can help me name him!

Out of all eight characters I have, he is the only one who I have trouble naming.

Have you played persona? He kinds of resemble Dojima and Adachi together giving that strange feeling. o.o

And an opinion about the sprite, his hair does not match the portrait, the hair on the portrait looks a bit shaggy while the one on the sprite is those type of hair which are properly combed. :)

i haven't played persona.. :(

and yep, their hairstyle doesn't match at all xD

i think i might change his potrait after all--a more sleek like his sprite.. I'll keep his shaggy hair for when he his off duty. :3

I think "Niels" would be a cool name!

Great artwork by the way, you're insanely talented! Keep up the awesome work!

Is there a specific name group you're going for? For example, Margaux sounds somewhat French, almost, whereas Ryutaro sounds...well...like what it sounds...

I suppose you don't have a very specific group in mind, but just to help me stay on focus. Just so I don't give you weird names. ;)

Its a mixture of culture from different countries. :)

The game will revolve between syndicates, e.g. mafia vs yakuza, hence the names. :)

@cirucat: ooh, Niels.. Has a nice ring to it. But I'll have to wait for the others before I decide what to finally name him. And thank you~

Ahh. Well then. :\ This will certainly be a challenge, I always have trouble naming people. Gimme a mo.

By the way, I noticed you changed the name of the game from "Sleeping Angels" to "SleepLESS Angels."

Wow, you have really got some talent. : D Your lines especially look so crispy... I like them a lot.....

I actually don't think your colouring is that bad. (Or even just bad.) I think you could easily get better with some trial and error-- though, wait, i just read that you don't like colouring. o.o

I can't guarantee that I'd colour them in a way you would like, but if you really did want someone to try colouring them in for you, I would not mind trying. I think i actually prefer colouring/ shading over sketching. (lol.")

I think Daeron seems Korean-American to me. Margaux seems french. Ryutaro seems Japanese. Now the 4th character should be.... hmm. What about something unique, like Indian-Icelandic, or Native American-Netherlander?

Imo I think an Indian or Indian-hybrid name would be cool.

EDIT: Som = "The Moon" in Hindi. Seif = "Sword/ Brave", Kam = "Love", Karm = "Fate", Kiran = "Ray of light", Falgun = "[Month in Hindu calendar]", Lagna = "The ascendant"... etc.

Lol, that is okay... though I doubt I have already picked a name already by that time. O.o

Yeah, I changed it since I thought since my game is focus on morality, I thought Sleepless Angels was appropriate.

Thank you~ I didn't use the pen tool but the curve tool in Paint Tool SAI that is why it looks clean. :) And thank you as well--commenting about my coloring. :D Yeah, I hate coloring--to be specific the shading! I hate shading! I can't get the shadings right! I can never get the shadings right.. T_T

Ooh~ You want to try and color them? That'll be nice. :) But I don't have anything to pay you. <-- starving artist

Daeron and Margaux are actually French-Italian :) Ryutaro is indeed Japanese and Mr. No Name Yet is well... I am not sure. The reason for why his skin is colored like that is because he doesn't get enough sleep and he smokes all the time, hence, his color tone is a bit greyish sorta sickly looking. >.>

And ooh~ I might be able to use some of these names~ Thank you for these! :D

Interesting; seems like quite a bit of work though. : o But same with my sister. (!) She says she can't colour/ shade for life, lol.

XD it's alright if you can't pay me though. I think it'll be much-needed experience.

Maybe you can draw 3 of my characters in return ehhhh?? : )

You can send me the .sai file or a .psd file of each character.

And no problem. Yea, i got them off a baby names website, but i tried to pick the cool names. (XD)

@WBRUH: Hm.. My colorist <-- just made this word up, after pleading her and bribing her with chocolates and ice cream had finally crack and decided to help with the coloring. So I already have someone to color for me. Thanks though.

Drawing characters for your game? Well, you can PM me and explain to me the details. :)

Ah, i see, that's too bad. (Yes I was looking forward to it.) But that's nice of her.

I meant just fanart btw actually. I've never had anyone try to redraw any of my characters, and wondered how the whole request thing went. You can still do fanart of the 3 characters if you want. (lol)

Totally concur, this is stuff you'd see in a professional 3DS game or something, and you showcase a lot of versatility. My favorite art here by far; every new drawing blows me away.
