Story:

The Story is about a boy who runs away from home with a family friend (named Garner) who is a seafarer and they journey across the seas. The world that they're in has had some history in the past with ancient evil that once ruled the land but was sealed long ago by a hero named Damien who locked himself away with the evil in order to save the planet. The ship with the boy and Garner on it crashes leaving the boy stranded in no man's land and a loss of memory. Unknowingly, he breaks the already-weakening seal on the devil's gate where the evil was once previously locked away. This releases much of the evil that had once been at bay which also included Damien who has been tainted by such a long exposure to the darkness. Although the seal has been broken, still much of the evil is still behind the door. To open the devil's gate some more, Damien is bringing chaos upon the lands, resurrecting ancient evil that used to roam the lands years ago,  and seeking out the three friscoe fragments that, once sought and combined, form an ancient tablet that has the potential to grant its beholder one wish before the artifact breaks up and scatters across the lands so that one can find discover the pieces and the tablet's power can be tapped once more. Along the way, the boy will make new friends that will help him on his quest to restore order to the once peaceful lands. Oh yeah, and they kill A LOT of things along the way.

The Characters:
Protagonist: Not much is known about the protagonist. Although it may not be clear, he is a runaway who is strong willed and not much backstory. Although it may seem that he lacks confidence, he has a strong spirit and is very adventurous.
Hilla: A smalltown girl who works with her father at the inn in SmallDale. She is very confident and solves her problems with her fists.
Joshua: Losing his parents to a fire at a young age, he made it his life goal to train and one day confront the man responsible for taking the life of his parents. He is very weak, and the story quickly reveals that he's not the most brave of warriors.
Ezekiel: As sworn protector of HillCrest, the kingdom's hope and fate lies in his hands. He is very determined, calm, and wise well beyond his years.

Please please give feedback as your voice is the only thing keeping indie games and their developers alive! An absurd amount of scripting help from Yanfly, Yami, Shadow master, Jet, Neon Black, Mithran, MogHunter, Logan Forrests, Tsukihime, Victor, AriArk, Seiryuki, Dekita, MajireFly, Galv, Zerbu, and KilloZapit. ! Try the demo below and please tell what you think. Additional sprite work by HAMINGRAM. You should check out his stuff *it's pretty cool!*

Just letting any players know that I never planned on making a demo, let alone releasing it, so this demo will probably be significantly longer than the average demo boasting around 4 hours give or take and will abruptly end around the swamp.
Please please if you decide to play that you send me suggestions because your unbiased feedback is the only thing that can make this better, and while you're at it check some of the work those mentioned above do. It's some pretty awesome stuff!

Ehhh, that second screenshot with the Sea Demons has a cut-off background >.< Parallax imperfection? Same with the funny grayish tiles on the forest battle screenie.

I'd like to know more about the story! :) This looks pretty interesting.

Yeah, I've been working on that boat battleback without results. The reason it's cut off like that is because the background is scrolling horizontally and, unlike all of the other battlebacks, the sea one has those clouds so the edge of the battleback is clearly visible. I'm sorry to disappoint, but if you have any suggestions I'm all ears! Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it!!  :D

I know it's hard to make backgrounds match up perfectly. One reason I'm put off when it comes to creating them.

A good way to get it to match up though is take what you have and put it into a picture editing program. Then make a vertical cut through the center of the picture and maneuver it so the mismatched edges line up. And you can work from it from there! Just don't touch any more edges....

Then when you put the picture pieces back, it'll be a perfect loop!

(Yeah, not making sense.)

Cool sounding story, seems fine. Nice use of the larger static battlers for enemies, sometimes they look out place in a sideview system but they look pretty good there. One thing about the faces in dialogue though, in that second screen on the boat, his face is happy and cheery when he is cleary in a pretty intense moment. Either resort to all neutral faces or make sure you make some different emotions. Looks cool! :)

Wow, I never realized how joyous of an occasion a storm can be. You can look forward to that being changed in the next update. Thanks for the feedback!! :D

I will do my best. I see what you're saying and I hope it's as easy as it sounds. Thanks for your feedback! I appreciate it!!

Have fun...well, actually, I don't know how much fun it'll be.

But trust me, having smooth graphics, especially when it comes to background, is totally worth it! Also, don't be afraid to blur backgrounds a little; having them too sharp may actually draw the viewer's eye away from what they're supposed to be looking at. Just from an artist's standpoint~

Oh my goodness! That was fast! And it's impressive how well you blended it; it looks perfect!

But just to be clear, by 'blur' I didn't mean that it must be dark >.< I don't know if that was just something you decided to do, but blur doesn't have to be gloomy storm (or even non-gloomy storm.)

Well yeah, I understand that. It's just that for this part of the game I needed a kind of dark atmosphere for this battle. I was just focusing on fixing that glaring mistake in the background. Thank you for the feedback!! :D

I'm back (yeah I never get out of the way, right?) and I was looking at your screenshots, especially that first one of Silk Forest. Are you using other tilesets? I love RTP sometimes, but I think that screenie could look way better with other tiles or even custom graphics  ~

Hey so this project is being moved to the gaming lounge. I would appreciate viewers who assisted in this project in some way, shape, or form (whether it was testing or giving feedback) to continue with the help on the new project topic in the gaming lounge once it's up. I've uploaded some more screenshots from the newest version as well. I will continue to update the main version link in this topic as well and please continue your feedback as it is the only thing keeping this game alive. Thanks for the support!!

Your parallax backgrounds and the party lineups are getting so much better! I'm glad you've getting moved to the Gaming Lounge so more people can play your demo :)
