Nasrullah Khan

A Fantasy-History Adventure

Abstract: You are a soldier seeking revenge for your fallen Khan

Genre: Historical Fantasy

Game Progression: Very early. I may have a demo within a month

Recruitment: None right now. I want to try on my own at first.

Story/Setting

It is the early 19th century, a time of turbulence and bloodshed for the ancient lands of Central Asia. Long forgotten are the massive empires of Genghis Khan and Timur. The land is now divided between small khanates, struggling for their own survival. Hemmed in by the great British Empire to the south, and wary of the creeping growth of Russia to the north, the khanates seem destined to be swept away by the waves of modernity.

It is against this backdrop that the vicious Nasrullah, Khan of Bokhara, rises up. He uses the intrusions of the Europeans as an excuse to wage wars against neighboring nations, claiming that he wishes to unite all of Central Asia against the foreign invaders. In reality, Nasrullah fights only to satisfy his own lust for power and glory. His army marching northward, he murders the Khan of Kokand and seeks to add that entire territory to his own.

But Nasrullah's arrogance will betray him. His oppressed subjects boil with rage, waiting for an opportunity to overthrow the tyrant. The Europeans scheme against him, angry at the Khan for his treachery against them. And now, a young officer from Kokand sets his heart on spilling Nasrullah's blood with his own hands. Seeking vengeance for his fallen Khan, this lone soldier stands against Nasrullah and all his might.

First things first, I absolutely love the setting. Central Asia/Middle East are often ignored by the game developers except for when they need cookie cutter enemies for their modern FPS games. (Not to forget that they are either backed by Russia, China or North Korea. :P) So, kudos to you on that.

The story is pretty decent as well since you well described the setting and the motives for the good and the bad guys. I'll have to wait until I play the game before I can give full judgement on that.

My only criticism as of now, is the mapping. It looks very sparse and basic. Definitely it could use more detail and less size, especially the interiors.

Aghhh, facegens >.< I'm very sorry for saying that. Sorry, I just can't take them...

Anyway, onto the actual critiquing...

I know you said that you would like to use just the RTP and generator, but I think and highly, highly, highly recommend to have custom graphics or other resources. For example, I love the RTP tilesets, but they get a little old after a while and are rather limited at times. (There tends to be a repeating pattern to the eye once you've played long enough in a solely RTP-made game.) Same with the little things with graphics; you don't really notice it as a big thing, but it can be pleasing without you even noticing :D For example, a simple windowskin (or even just windowskin color change) could be really beneficical. Sampling little bits of tilesets from others will really spruce it up ^-^ But if you want to stick to RTP, that's fine. Maybe if you have the patience to parallax, the RTP tiles could be made into some sort of wonder!

Love your setting, though I've never been good at remembering complex names >.<
