BLURB: I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right side of the forums but some other people asking help with story concepts are here, so I figured this might be the place. Also, the description and rules of this forum aren't really against story concepts, so yeah. But if it needs to be moved, help me move it.

 

DILEMMA: Need help with my game concept, in general.

Genre: Fantasy Drama

 

PLOT:

As [snow], you are the star football player in your high school. You rush to school and you accidentally bash into a dork who you apologize to and bring to the nurse's office after seeing him bleed when he hit his head on a sharp rock. He forgives you after numerous apologies in the office and you leave for class. When you see him again, he is bullied into a locker.

And from then on you see your mates picking on him again and again and you'll notice the frequency and how they get more violent over the days. You ask your saner friends what's going on with them, and they share your unease.

 

Then one night you pass by the kid again in an alley, being bullied into a bloody pulp. You step in against their better judgement, but then something happens and a scary black thing scares everyone away and leaves you paralyzing in fear. Just when it looks at you, it vanishes. You freaked out so much you fainted. You wake up in a hospital and from there start getting to know the dork [Noel].

 

You meet his family, who pays for your hospital bills as a thank-you, and from there you get to know him. But his family starts giving you hints of something about Noel and as you investigate further, you realize Noel is god. And he made everything, including you. Chris, his godfather and keeper, finds out you learned the truth and explains that the bullies come after him as a way of his berating himself. God or not, he's a teenage boy with problems, and he also contradicts himself as a means to be logical. of course, that had its ups and downs, and he confronts you with a problem: if you let him realize who he is and what he can truly do, you'd risk erasing everything from existence. If not, you'll of course have the guilt of living a lie.

 

As you progress to the story, it'll climax at the school's Halloween Fair, where you rescue him from bullies one last time and he admits to himself that something's wrong. There, you are given the choice to try to let him know what he is or not.

 

MAIN CHARACTERS

Snow "Bodie" White

The main character you control. Football star, lives with a single mom and a sister. Best friends with a fujoshi and a friendly asshole.

 

Noel Ellis Rosche

The wimp who manages to escape most bullying tactics, but somehow gets chased after with more vicious methods. Can apparently control reality to a large extent unconsciously. Doesn't use therapy much, just therapy books, social interpretation, and various media to help him cope with real people.

 

Chris Valentine

Noel'd godfather, who is casual and fun. He seems to know more about Noel than the kid himself does.

 

MAPS

It'll be sandbox style, so no real map jumping. School, homes, small regions, all for exploring. The story might get linear, so I'm still trying to think of a way to make it diverse.

 

ITEMS and SPRITES

Game-related with funny descriptions. Might poke fun to a few popular things like Youtubers and name puns of celebrities.

I'd love some Mack School Sprites but they're hard to come by, and after some experimentation, I learned I suck at pixel art. I might post my character designs here but I need to find some time for it without anyone in my family noticing. They disapprove of me drawing. -___-" 

 

EDIT: How many of you think shoving in gags based on popular people is a bad idea? In hindsight, I think it might.

 

GAME DESCRIPTION

I won't be using the combat system. It's all just conversations and busts, which will be time-consuming to make. I think facesets may be enough but busts seem to add more depth. What do you think?

 

 

So I ask you give me your input and ideas and opinions, people-who-chance-upon-this-topic. Sometimes I think this might be too ambitious. Your help is much appreciated. As for where this should be, maybe you guys can help me move this topic or something?

also there's something that a little bit strange. does the god always in teenage boy form from the beginning of time? or the god reincarnated each time (make more sense why he act like teenage boys when he lived for really loooongg time). or instead of reincarnation maybe after certain physical form age the god will transform back to baby form (sorta like phoenix). so before transform to baby. the adult form will create a guardian to raise himself. (a.k.a chris). just some idea.

It's interesting because the kid never knew he was a god. Talking to his godfather, the player will learn that Noel was an orphan who often kept to himself. A traumatic event just triggered something inside him to bend reality, but he never knew about it. The people he surrounds himself with are copies of fragments of his personality.

 

 

 

Chris. He is Noel's wisdom and intellect. Smart, wise, and is sentient about everything around him.

Snow. Noel's inner male, the animus. Loud, happy-go-lucky, outgoing, and active.

Fraudir. (to be introduced) Noel's inner female, the anima.  Flirty, deceiving, mischievous, but altruistic. Noel's best friend in school before Snow.

Shadow Black Thingy. Noel's Self-preservation instinct. 

Bullies Noel's self-loathing and suicidal mentality.

Jason. A big brother Noel always wanted to have, but humanized from a story he wrote. He's basically a ginger emo who dyed his hair black. Muscular, too.

Piers.  Who Noel aspires to be, somewhat. A goal. Handsome, expert hacker and programmer, and takes care of family.

 

 

Noel tells himself off when he makes a mistake or he sees himself as lowly. Not only do real bullies bully him, but he bullies himself. It's not that far from real teenagers, only his manifest. The shadow that pops up protects him, but its agenda is self-preservation. it doesn't necessarily protect Noel as Noel, but Noel since he's a host. So if Snow reveals to Noel the truth, it'll lash out at him. As to how I'll keep a secret since it might become a spoiler.

 

As you can see, Noel is an emotional mental case.  I'm such a jerk.

 

Would multiple endings be a good idea?

multiple endings with choice branch (ex: Chris path, Jason path) will surely fit this concept.

since it's like visual novel. Devil survivor series made good use of those choice branch.

 I actually forgot all about Haruhi Suzumiya until you mentioned her. DAMMIT. So much for an original idea. Oh well, [iNSPIRED]. A lot of series use the 'GOD' concept, anyway. }I'll just keep telling myself that. I'm not sure if the Haruhi reference is a good idea anymore. D:

 

And I guess shoving Pewdilia in as an extra will be too much, huh? I wanted to draw the bust of Pewds in creepy smile and pigtails, but I'll put it somewhere else, then. I was thinking of using gags. If any of you have suggestions for gags, let me know. I get my kicks out of Youtube at times. Maybe I can throw in the random weirdo, sure, I'll just be more subtle.

 

I had to google Kamisama Kazomu before I got an idea of what you meant. It's fine. A lot of people have someone taking care of them who seem god-like. But somehow I keep thinking of Batman and Robin and their butler Alfred Pennyworth. Yeah, I'm not that otaku.

 

And then there's the rock. He just got a flesh wound. But yeah, some people are bleeders. This was inspired by a real time event in my life. I'm serious, but I was tackled from the front (too distracted by someone's pet dog). It's funny if you think about it.

 

Oh, and the yaoi? I figured I'd try a little female fan-service. :|

No, I'm kidding. I just like the idea of grazing on the platonic sides of friendship. But now that you mentioned it... Shoot me, I'll put it as an alternate ending or something. I think having some yaoi as an easter egg would be pretty funny.

 

When I imagine the character designs I imagine Noel looking like Kaoru Nishimi from Kids on a Slope (not shounen ai), and Snow looking like Sentaro Kawabuchi from the same show.

 

Gags don't have to be references, they can be original. If you need help writing comedic dialoug I suggest checking out 30 Rock.

 

Is this going to be anime-esk in style? or are the characters going to be cartoony? Not enough people stray from the anime style RPG-maker games are known for.

PS: I absolutely despise PewDiePie, he is very unfunny, childish in a non-charming way, loud, annoying, doesn't give interesting commentary, etc. not saying you shouldn't like him (unless you are older than 16), but thats jsut my opinion.

By the GOD concept, I kinda meant someone has god powers for some reason. But I think I see where you're getting at. I'll make the story as unique as possible and try to make it as genuine

 

Yes, art style is gonna be one of my main problems, because I was thinking of having someone else do it and I'd credit-and-pay them, but I have a few problems with that. First off, not many of my contacts wanna do some work for me (bigger fish to fry, lucky them). Second, I'm a little tight in the budget. Push comes to shove, I'll draw the characters and their busts (by busts, I mean portraits, the large ones) myself.

 

 

 

But really, just look inside the spoiler above, and you can tell why I'm reluctant to do so. The one above (in the spoiler), is a recent render and attempt of concept art Bodie-001. I was planning on adding body hair but I'd use it for the base for clothes and stuff first. And I don't know how to classify this; if it's anime-ish or cartoony

 

 I never had formal training in digital and traditional art, and the only advice I got for the former was "use layers", which really helps. GIMP has been my best friend. But expect me to use some RTP elements, and Mack sprites. The only downside of that is they don't have behavior sprites and starting from scratch really ends up looking awkward. So I might have to draw a lot of busts with different emotions and poses (That's gonna be fun :| ). Oh, and a lot of pictures, like you'd see in visual novels. It's gonna be hard trying to keep this game simple.

 

If you got more suggestions, any of you passers-by and peoples-who-chance-upon-this-topic, let me know.

And if you also know where I can get Mack-style behavior sprite templates, let me know, too.

I was banned because I did a social experiment back in 2010 where I created a folder titled "Bad Art" and I started adding every single deviantion on the front page for about an hour. I got nearly a thousand messages in a week. DA took notice and renamed my folder to "Collection 001" and then I re-named it to "shit art" so they banned me lol. I've been using proxies to make accounts ever since just posting art, but they always track me down somehow and ban me.

 

Placeholders sound like a good idea. They dont have to be too complicated, they should-- for now --quickly convey the expression of the character and which character is speaking so you can go back and create/commission the proper assets.

 

I think a short demo displaying a near finnished product with a cliffhanger will get the most people invested/interested in your project enough to wait for it. Do not release a demo too early in development!

I agree with tensoup on some matters. Snow and Noel? (Are we going for a Christmas theme here? We only just passed Halloween...) Also I would automatically assume Snow to be a girl's name. Unless he is forever addressed by his surname which has become a nickname for his first name? @_@

Here's a funny thing about the story, some character background. Snow's full name is Snow W. Valentine. But his name in-game would be Snow White because some time after his birth, his mother broke up with his father and moved elsewhere. The father thought of using Snow so the name horribly went wrong because of his mother's maiden name. People just call him "Bodie", a nickname he came up with in elementary school.

 

I've been thinking of how to incorporate that bit of past. I'm thinking a casual conversation with Noel.

 

And yes, this bit of history is Noel-thought-related, so in some sense, it was Noel's fault.

Seems too personality-related. I just wanted to throw an ironic and sad possibility into the game, where parents can royally fudge-up your name. With sprinkles, of all things. Think I should make the name more character-related, though? Isn't that a cliche or something?

I forgot the names are related to Christmas. It was not my intention.

But I kinda don't wanna change the names. But if you have better suggestion, lemme know. I'm not so sure about making something more personality-related.

Fraudir is Noel's best friend, and his inner female. Hot chick because I want her to focus on seductive exploit and cheery charm, with fair amounts of sympathy and quirky peppy fun. It just felt like a good idea at the time.

And I got the first name from Valkyrie Profile. It was such an awesome name. To think it used to be well-used.

It started WAAAAY back in high school. And the story just evolved from RPG Fantasy to well... this concept.

 

Still working on pictures and busts for the game since I couldn't find an artist yet. So far, I got Snow's naked body ready. Will work on the others, but if someone wanna work on this, hopefully free(?), I'd be uber happy.

Why don't you focus on some real problems instead of buffering every slightly sharp edge of the crib in an attempt to shield-- what you must regard as the infant communtiy; unable to fend for itself? Have a little faith in the forum, you insult us.

 

 

1. The amount of "decent length, helpful, on-topic posts" does not correspond to an amount of unhelpful posts you are allowed to make.

2. Moderation is part of a forum, we do not moderate moderation as off-topic... I'm sure you agree that would be silly. You might want to get used to what moderation is and learn when it's used as it is not going anywhere just because you don't like it.

3. I didn't force you to respond at all in this thread, that is also silly. In fact, you are deliberately doing the opposite to what a moderator asked you to do - and adding more off-topic responses to this thread.

4. As I have said before, if you have a problem with being polite or my moderation, please feel free to PM an admin with your complaints.
