OneCutStudio 353 Posted November 4, 2013 Hi Everyone, Awhile ago I posted this sample for a tileset I am making on my resource thread. I thought that I would post it here to get some feedback on what the community thinks. Honest, constructive criticism is appreciated. My two-cents: I know the wood doesn't have any texture. I know the books appear shiny...almost like balloons. I don't particularly like the drapery over the four-post bed. Something seems off... Yes, the old man and old woman are stain-glass windows. The coloration on the knights is still a bit weird. As you can see I am highly critical of my own work. With that said, I really do like my mounted animal heads. I haven't seen anyone do these yet for a tileset so I thought it might be good for a castle, tavern, or hunter's lodge. Thanks -One Cut Studio
Tsarmina 2,612 Posted November 4, 2013 (Celianna actually did a mounted deer head, but this is the first time I've seen others ^-^) The side view chairs look a little bit off. Almost as if the legs are too tall for the backs. Plus the cushioning makes them look a little bit like sausages XD The back view of the chair is shorter than the front view O_o In the filled bathtub, the water is listing to the left side. Check both edges of the bathtub from the edge to the water and you'll see. You already named most of the stuff for me haha! The gold knight does look a little more mustard-colored than gold, though. ^^"
Artemis_Dreamer 14 Posted November 4, 2013 Hi, OneCutStudio. These are amazing tiles, which I really quite like - they're much better than anything I've done. My only critique is that certain tiles, such as the bookcases, seem to lack a certain amount of depth. It stands out to me most on the bathtub, but is also noticeable on the bookcases. All I can think that would help would be some more wood texture (as you noted), or shading (in the case of the bathtub). The knights are excellent, IMHO, and the animal heads are a cute and whimsical touch - great for a hunting-lodge-type setting! The stained glass windows could use a bit of color variation in them, rather than just having panes of flat colors - actual stained glass is not matte. ... sorry for that long list of critiques, but these are very promising, and I think that with a few improvement, they'd be perfect. Politely yours, ~ Ella

Politely yours, ~ Ella Yes! I agree with you completely. I will try varying the colors for the stained glass and add some depth to the bookcases. They do make more sense when placed against a background wall, but they still lack the texture and shading to solidify them. I am also experimenting with a new way to represent glass that I will hopefully post some teasers soon. Thanks for your honest opinion. I take my work seriously so I know what is lacking already most of the time, but thanks for offering your opinion.
Tsarmina 2,612 Posted November 5, 2013 Heehee, don't hit yourself too hard. Celianna does practically everything before I can even think of it! Still great job~
Holder 333 Posted November 6, 2013 I don't particularly like the drapery over the four-post bed. Something seems off... You've got to extend it another tile deep, it should be the same length as the bed itself whereas at the moment it's only half the length of the bed. Also just as a little C&C, the Knight statues, shouldn't they just be the same size as the normal characters?

As far as the statues are concerned, I usually use 32 x 64 sized sprites, which I know is not common. Either way, as a decorative piece I didn't think that it had to be the same size. Holder 333 Posted November 6, 2013 No probs I mentioned it as it looks like the kind of statues which are actual old pieces of armour on display, I can see what your saying though.
placidandy 9 Posted December 2, 2013 Hi! Nice work, I have one suggestion- when doing bookcases for an organised library type place books are often very similar-looking, as there will be many books in a series organised together. One trick is to pick an area of shelf and draw vertical lines of roughly the same width and colouring, to represent a series of books. Then add a little gold spot at the top and bottom to denote gold embossed lettering. I'll knock up a quick demonstration of what I mean-
