AJNR 156 Posted December 9, 2013 (edited) So I've posted a couple of shots in the status feed a couple of days ago. For some reason, fanart seems to look much better than my original work (I guess it's because I have a solid reference). But the only reason I'm uploading this is because of the amount of time it's taking me and that I feel confidant that I can finish this. So I'll post up updates of the work that will go up as a final slideshow for Instagram, then I'll resume on my original work that I said I would update last week. I'll put the images - "update" shots - in chronological order in the spoilers. I'm using Paint Tool SAI and hopefully (not to sound pretentious) help someone learn new methods of creating Digital Art (along with learning some tips myself). So here's the progress so far: Warning, I wasn't able to resize the images so they will be large images (1280x1280) I know there's minor errors that need fixing (lighting, contour, symmetrical errors and all that jazz) and they'll be cleaned up and fixed before the final version. I might extend the canvas outwards horizontallyto a 1:1 Ratio, but her arms and hands will always be in the foreground. Along with her stage as thebackground.I'M GOING TO BED NOW Edited December 12, 2013 by AJNR
Tsarmina 2,612 Posted December 9, 2013 Wow! You really have the glassy and the metallic effects down straight From someone who struggles with such effects, *thumbs up* ^-^
AJNR 156 Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) Everyone thought I wasn't going to update. Because I never really do update posted work. So here's a small update. Hands are going to be my death. Edited December 12, 2013 by AJNR
The Second 16 Posted December 12, 2013 That's a darned good hand. And yes, hands are hard. I tend to use loose fists or pointed digits since I'm too lazy to practice. Only critique I can see is that her hand seems to be disembodied. I think I can see where the arm extends from the top of the wrist, but from the angle of the hand, we should also be able to see the lower part of her forearm as well.
Tsarmina 2,612 Posted December 12, 2013 Eh, you actually have the hands down really well for just using...well, color. Especially when you're working mostly with white. The index finger appears slightly too low, even if her fingers are at different levels (and may I also add that people tend to lead with the index finger and the others behind). :3
AJNR 156 Posted December 12, 2013 For now, it's just a base. It's honestly hard to get the hand and forearm placed correctly with the angle that's been placed. But I least I might get a freebie since she has some stuff that covers the top of her hand. This is the stance that she's usually in but I'll have both her hands up in the painting. So I might cheat with a copy, paste and flip (still have to have different shading on the right hand side because of the light source):
Tsarmina 2,612 Posted December 12, 2013 Oh--wow. Intense character. (I didn't know where she was from, so that gave me a nice sharp snap in the mind! ^-^) You might be able to get by. Though honestly, since her other hand is positioned so low, I don't know if it'd even show up in the portrait.
The Second 16 Posted December 12, 2013 If I might make a suggestion for practicing poses, what I do when I have a difficult pose is take the old digicam into the bathroom, make the pose into the mirror and take a snapshot. Then I practice drawing over the pose until I fell confident enough to draw it freehand.

Neverward 210 Posted December 16, 2013 This is a lovely and rather informative process here, it looks fantastic I agree that your jewels and glassy parts look seriously well done!
When Bugs Roam Ur House 656 Posted December 17, 2013 . . .Hands are going to be my death. For now, it's just a base. It's honestly hard to get the hand and forearm placed correctly with the angle that's been placed. XD I think...practise is something good to have, even if it is challenging. Hmm. I tried to draw over where i think the hand should be/ should appear to look like imo : My drawing is certainly not perfect, but... I think the top of the hand should be hidden more. Also, the fore-joints of the fingers could be slightly hidden a bit more. In exchange, the hand/ palm is visible, as your palm increases in thickness and slopes down to connect with your wrist. If you try doing to pose yourself with one of your hands, you will notice that the bottom of the palm shows beneath the fingers as well. Additionally... this is kinda optional i suppose, but base of the hand/ palm is like a square with a slight groove/ indentation in the middle. This groove shaping is the reason for the bumped lines i put under the index joint. I hope this helped? These are just my thoughts.

Aw thanks And thank you for the compliments on those details, they were seriously quite a pain @When Bugs Roam Ur House I'm so glad that I've been on a hiatus and haven't progressed very much after that post - because THAT'S EXACTLY THE HAND I NEED - I keep on looking at the hand I drew and kept thinking, "Wow, those wrists must hurt". But I'm glad I posted that up because you have seriously posted exactly what I needed! Thank You!
