Demo 1.15:

https://www.mediafire.com/?c8zzbhr4pciqxrw

My attempt at making an epic, open world game like the Elder Scrolls series.

Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Open-world, RPG

Game Progression:

Database: 40% (I still have yet to add in all the crafting/alchemy recipes)
Story: 60%
Maps: 15%
Resources: 80%

Story:

The land of Ildor has always been the centre of an uneasy balance between angels and demons - demons seek to destroy it, while angels are sworn to protect it. However, as time passes, people forget, and now, at the dawn of a new age, a brash new king with an unhealthy interest in science will rise to the throne. Technology is nearing the point where aircraft can be created - and man will look to the skies, to conquer new lands.

If the angels are exterminated, nothing will stand in the way between the demons and mankind. Humanity will have to right its own wrongs.

Characters:

You

You have lived in the village of Lamriol all your life with your father, and whenever you bring up who your mother was, your father changes the subject. One day, you long to leave the village and make your own path in the world, as well as find out your origins. That day may come sooner than expected...

Erdrick

He is your father, and has watched over you from your earliest memory. He is surprisingly good in hand to hand combat, and you always wonder if he really WAS always a farmer, as he claims to be.

Prince Sagacious

The only heir left to the throne, now that his sister is dead. The old king grows weak, and the kingdom dreads what will become of it when this unliked prince rises to the throne...

Seraphim

The lead archangel of the angels in heaven. He is sworn to protect humanity, however, time has dulled his senses and he has forgotten his original purpose.

Lucifer

A fallen angel, he is now the ruler of the demons in hell. Throughout the ages they have sought to destroy mankind, and now with both man and the angels weakening, the time may have come...

-A crime system that will bring back memories of "STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM"

-Puzzles that bring more to some quests than just dungeon crawling

-Choices in dialogue that may affect the story

This is very interesting, but some questions.  The script that gives you a bigger window size, how did you get around the looping maps for smaller default size maps for house interiors and segments?  Did you just craft every map to the minimum size of whatever resolution you set it to?

Is there a quest journal to help me keep track of everything in this vast world?

Do you have a script that allows play with a standard xbox controller so I am not restricted to keyboard?  It seems like having a controller for the action system would be a big help here, and 8 dimensional movement with other rpgs tends to be annoying as pressing right with the analog stick or direction sacrifices turns in battle.  It doesn't seem to be the case here, which is good.

How does loot work?  When an enemy is defeated are the items automatically added to your inventory, or do you have to interact with an enemy's corpse?

1. The script that gives you bigger window size basically just enlarges everything to fit a bigger window (which is why my screenshots were so big). It doesn't make it so that it shows more of the map, just makes everything larger. Script can be found here http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/14081-fullscreen/

2. I am using Modern Algebra's quest log, which allows you to keep track of everything, so you won't reopen the game after not playing and forget what you're supposed to do. His script can be found here http://rmrk.net/index.php/topic,45127.0.html

3, I don't know anything about the xbox controller (I don't even have an Xbox) but I don't see how 8-D movement is a problem: arrow keys to move in the normal four direcitons, press 2 at once to move diagonally.

4. When an enemy is slain, the loot drops on the ground. You can recognize it from it's icon, walking over it will automatically add it to your inventory.

I hope this answered your questions, any more feel free to ask. If you need more clarification, I can send screenshots.

The mapping is quite well done especially for default tiles, but the plot seems very cliched. Angels=good vs demons=bad, there's bound to be a special protagonist, evil gets squashed by good, etc. I do hope you throw in a plot twist here and there :) Your HUD is also very nice!

Recruitment: Is anyone good at making logos? I don't have much to offer except some newbie mapping  :(

ciruscat is GREAT at logos :)

Thanks for the feedback, I'm not very experienced at mapping so I'm glad that it's turning out ok. I don't really see anything wrong with default tiles and graphics, and they tend to cover everything I need, so that is why I am using them.

I agree the plot sounds a bit cliche, but I am doing everything I can to make it unique. I mean, hardly anything anyone comes up with nowadays hasn't been used yet. I can tell you now though angels will not be doing anything to help, mankind will have to fix it's own mistakes.

Ths HUD I am using is just the default one for Falcaos ABS system with Yami's stamina system. Credits go to them! I'm pretty bad with art (or else I would have a logo now). I would ask ciruscat for some help, but I have seen Constellation and there's not much to offer in exchange... and I hate asking for stuff with nothing in exchange.

It's not that there's anything wrong with the RTP, but after seeing them over and over, it gets slightly repetitive. ^^"

I wish you luck on making your plot unique! ^-^ Throw us a curveball now and then and there should be not much problem.

As for ciruscat and Constellation, I suppose you could always ask her if she needs anything. (Knowing her, she might not have anything right now...) If you with to give something in return, you might want to look for a commission. :) Good luck!

Awww, thanks for the kind words Tsarmina!

@The Yank : I would love to design a logo for you if you want, you can PM me if you are interested! I would require nothing in return!

I don't like asking for freebies, but if it's offered, sure! WIthout further ado, the new logo from ciruscat (with a random pic from the internet that looked cool)

I think it looks like some sort of angelic meteor, crashing down to earth! (which fits the theme of my game)

Thanks again, ciruscat!!

You're the one who made it happen :D

Also, I am adding dialogue choices to the game (some of which will affect the story in a minor way). It won't be like Dragon Age or anything, where the story is affected in a big way, but I feel like it will make the player feel more part of the game world.

I actually like these kind of stories, but I wonder if the way the game operates will tie in with the games plot and its style.

There's a few updates I've made since uploading the demo:

- Fixed the lighting and the HUD: The HUD will no longer darken with the rest of the screen.

- Nerfed projectile magic- fireballs and stuff no longer goe through enemies, they explode on the first target hit.

- Added in the prison map, but the city that it's in is still being mapped

- Reduced difficulty in tutorial stealth part

- Fixed up lighting in first town interiors.

I won't upload all these fixes yet, I'm waiting until that I have more content to get feedback on, but just know that these issues have already been looked at.

Have fun playing!!

Ah cool. Doh, I just downloaded a just recently. Man, I couldn't see what to do when saving ulrika. I am still stuck in the darkness part. (PS I found a wall glitch, nothing major but you didn't make one of the walls solid and you can walk on it into a nothing area).

I've already fixed the wall glitch. I assume this is the stealth part, once you get to the other side, you will find a closed gate. There is a lever somewhere in the middle of the map that you have to activate to open it. It's a bit under the wall glitch. I've made it easier to find in the newest version.

Edit: Uploaded newer version with fixes from pervious post. Not much in terms of content has changed, just the above fixes.

There was a bug that for some reason made it stay lit, but you probably fixed that. I love the gameplay, mind you getting the venison was awkward Good job, the only thing bugging me are the glitches.

What bug made what stay lit, and what glitches are you referring to? I can't fix them if you don't specify what exactly is bugging or glitching...

Sorry I was just saying for the one that stayed lit was when you are doing the stealth. When I played the game last it was dark everywhere and then it was light when i started up the game with no stealth at all needed and I found the switch, but then it went dark. As for the other thing which is technically a glitch, the deer cannot be attacked with a sword or else the venison flies off the screen where you can get it. You can only use a bow to kill them. Was that intended?

Ah, that's a known problem. Any weapons which knock back may mess up the item drops, but the deer respawn so it shouldn't be game breaking. I'm working on a solution to the problem. The knife shouldn't known back anything though, unless you're using the Beta test sword (which I included as a "cheat" in case an enemy was too hard).

As for the lighting, was it only light for a few frames before turning dark, or did the darkness fail to to appear for a significant amount of time? If it's the former, I've fixed it, but if if the darkness completely failed to happen when you continued from a previous save, then I will have to look into it.

The stealth scene to save ulrika was completely dark but when I went back outside of the castle to see if I was missing anything it was pitch black outside too. Now, I stopped playing and played again the next day and when I loaded up my game, now all of the darkness in the room was completely gone and I don't know why. The room lost all of the darkness. Also yeah it wasn't game breaking about the push. Mind you the enemy AI for the deer seemed to always push it to the edge. Nonetheless I am really enjoying the game thus far and you have done a fantastic job. Very unique game.

Ok, thanks for telling me. The lighting as been fixed- also, the reason the deer keep running into walls is that they are programmed to run away from the player and not attack. This works on the large overworld, but I guess it wasn't the best option to have it do that in the small confines of the forest dungeon.
