Really nice to see a project of this scale being made. And this is definitely Kickstarter worthy. Your tech demo showed a really unique game and I can not wait to see more.

Thanks man, I checked out your Demon's Revenge game on TIG.  It's looking nice so far.  I love the portrait art!

The story interests me. I can see how you kind of have us looking at the humans in two lights. One we see the Unthinkables finding a solution to keep humans alive while sustaining the land. And another scenario to really question if they are worth it. I like the way you built that up because you can kind of foreshadow things to come in the game. Showing reasons why and why not humans in this game are a viable part of the world. Its really fun to see the tech demo with the really impressive and fun art style as well as a solid story to build on. I have been looking for something like this to talk about for a long time well... besides my game.

I really like your art style it is cartoony and bright and does not look like generic anime. Very unique.

Also your main character is very recognizable. I can see him being an iconic type character for your game. I think it is his hair coupled with the scarf and blue shirt. That image is now scribed in my mind as Toby.

I think that as a developer yourself, you know all to well that looking at your project for too long makes you forget what it's strengths and weaknesses are.  It all sort of blends together as one big "I've been staring at this too long"

It's really nice and helpful to have someone actually go through and tell us what we've done right.  We know what not to change and what to build on.  So thank you :)

I cannot get enough of the work and the effort both of you put in! You really can tell that you two are a complete and utter unstoppable team, I cannot wait to see what your next treat, and sneak peak might be guys, I can see this going a lot further than just "RPG Maker Developers". The work is succinct and beautiful, the title screen itself is a credit to your hard worksmanship, I can tell for certain that you guys are prepared and you both know exactly what you are doing, and are completely and utterly on the same page as each other.

It's hard to get a team together in this development age, as people often give up due to time constrants and the amount of work, you two however show know sign of struggle and I can see great things coming from Mvisioning! :)

Thanks ya'll! Definitely happy that all our hard work is being taken well so far.

Some updates to the screenshots in the main post as well as a video Matt made of the title scene that Jonnie mentioned.

The camera moving around is Matt having a good play with the arrow keys... hehe

How the hell does someone even begin to make something that incredibly awesome?

That is pretty cool. You can definitely see all the hard work that was put into it. The bird sounds could be a bit more subtle. And it is intriguing to see all the sea creatures in and out of the water like that. I am assuming that has something to do with the plot. Really looking forward to more.

When lots of birds and whales appeared that was Matt pressing a secret combination of buttons. The normal title screen is like the start of the video with very few birds and few whales minus Matt fiddling with the camera movement. He's just a big kid... (I add some random button pressing just for fun and he can't leave them alone...).

LOL that is pretty cool. It really looks impressive I watched it a bunch of times and I really like it. I hope Matt is writing a bunch of the comedy for the game because he seems like a pretty funny guy. If he can make me laugh on forum posts with dark knight parody he can definitly write funny dialogue in a game.

LOL, you guys should not have a problem in the social networking thing. I actually hate it, but I am sure with Matts likability you should not have a problem with it. I find that it is really distracting from the actual game development. At the same time I believe it is essential for actually making a commercial product successful. I believe a lot of people go on Kickstarter to be a one game wonderbut I think of it as a business venture using those tools and resources to essentially launch a career. I got a little off topic but I actually went looking for you guys website, facebook and twitter once I seen your game. And I see a little bit of my same ambitions in your project.

Ben is far more like-able than me.  I swear and can't spell.  I can also cook really well but choose not to... Ben gives out scripts for free and scratches behind my ears when I ask politely. Ben=winner.

That being said, I'm glad you went out and looked for our social media.  Getting that stuff done is a lot easier when you are not one person.  I tend to run that stuff and Ben gets stuff done while I'm busy with it.  The website is not quite finished but it's coming along :)

Amazing things there, Galv... and to Matt Beer. The only thing that I thought was a bit jarring was the treasure chest in the first screen. Everything else is customized, hand-drawn (I believe), so that chest clashes.

If you're not planning to remake the chests, maybe a quick toss into Photoshop will allow you to tone down the color from the standard RTP.

Otherwise, great job so far, and good luck with your commercial endeavors!

Thanks amerk - we're definitely planning to remake the chest (and use as little RTP as possible) :)

Still a lot more work to do (why did we decide to make everything from scratch... haha)

Definitely remaking the chest!  No worries sir!  Thanks for taking a look at what we've got going on :D

Matt's been having fun drawing while I'm stuck in codeland! Some updates to the main post:

- Updated some character artwork

- Added new screenshots in 'Battle' (still very early screenies) and 'Other' sections

Also we're preparing our kickstarter for 1st of March. It would be awesome and we will be very grateful if anyone interested in this project could spread the word!

Keep working hard on your own and thanks for the support

Somehow haven't seen this until now.

The high level of polish I'd expect from Galv and a very interesting concept. I'm amazed by the amount of work that has gone into this; the sheer number of creatures that are created is staggering considering how much work goes into each one, both in terms of art and design. Wish you guys the best of luck with the Kickstarter and development!

I was actually thinking about this game the other day and a question came across my mind. This reminds me a lot of Pokemon and Jade cocoon. My question is though what separates Toby's Quest from those titles and what makes it more unique. I understand the balancing of the foods and exploration which probably makes it a bit tougher and more rewarding when trying to collect more creatures. I'm not saying it is not interesting as it is very much extremely appealing. I just like to learn more about this game  :) .

I cannot remember Jade Cocoon as it's been a very long time since I played it, but of course I can remember Pokemon! (Well, the older games heh).

Toby's Island may have creatures that you raise and battle with - I think that might be the biggest similarity if we are comparing them.

Toby does have a very important quest he is destined to complete on the island - a quest he is bound to by magic of his ancestors (as were the generations of his family before him) . He didn't willingly know or accept the responsibility and will learn about it as he explores the island.

Toby isn't a 'trainer' of the creatures he meets. He will meet ancient spirits on his journey and those spirits possess the creatures from birth and use their different powers to help Toby on his quest. They will be able to be re-birthed into different creatures if certain conditions are met and each spirit has their own personality and back story to do with the main plot. The battles play a lot like classic sideview RPGs and Toby is brave enough to join in (although not as strong as his creature companions that he will rely heavily on).

So I guess what I see as the main things setting them apart is the in-depth story (learning about the past, spirits and other happenings), town upgrading, mini games, day-by-day exploration and random events that will be a big part of the gameplay. Plus... our own unique take on everything! :D

That is pretty awesome stuff. After seeing your title screen and all the animation that went into it. I can not wait to see how your battles are going to work out. I am looking forward to smooth animations and some really cool effects. The way you get creatures is very interesting which also makes me wonder how many you are going to have. Also would this be a stand alone title or is this a game that could span sequels.

Number of creatures is yet to be determined (I recall 40 odd in a planning session), will see how we go!

Currently the plan is a stand alone title but we have discussed a possible sequel already :)

Thanks for your interest!
