Now that I've had a chance to play a little bit of the demo...

I'm loving it so far. The dialog in your character interactions is very well done. The personalities of your characters come through superbly. I haven't found a single line yet that has thrown me into an "out of character" moment.

I really enjoy your maps, I guess using paralax does have huge benefits, none the less, your art is amazing. I'm still searching for ways to use lights like you did.

Thanks man! Thats awesome! I'm really feeling that everyone is experiencing the game exactly how i planned it! and that means soo much to me. Im pushing this game through until the end! so don't anyone worry about this becoming another lost project!

To be honest, everything ive done with lighting in those screen shots has changed. I am completely re vamping the maps that exist already, because the new ones are even better and i wanted them all to match ;) I have a whole batch of new screen shots to throw up :)

Im playing your demo right now.

So far what i enjoy the most is the dialogue, it's very cohesive, fun and not forced. I have seen a typo or 2, but so far, so good.

One thing tough, when I leave the first house, and return, some parts of the tutorial repeat.

And one more thing, I really noticed you like Final Fantasy 10 a lot.

the tutorial is actually going to be removed from the final version.. there isnt going to be one at all, so dont worry about that bug for now :) sorry if it annoyed you! D: haha I did enjoy ff10... I know right now in the games vague and short current state it sounds like its going to lead up to be alot the same, but dont worry... the story wanders in a very very different direction then ff10. thanks for checking it out man!

I started playing the demo I noticed some minor issues.. like after talking to ichor and opening the cave door you can go over to ichor and walk right over him.. lol So, far its pretty sweet.

So here are my initial thoughts, as I began playing it. I'll pick up a little more later today when I have time. Great mix of parallax and tile mapping. The writing flows fairly well, too, with only an occasional misspelling ("your about to become" should be "you're about to become", as an example). Final Fantasy music in the beginning house, but at least it's from FFX vs the overused FFVII. And I like the style of the characters, and if I understand correctly different actions will pave the way for different consequences, creating replayability.

Okay, some of the negatives, now. Sand is the currency? Did I read that right? Unless sand is scarce here, or it's a certain type of sand you can't find standing at the beach, this really doesn't make much sense to me. I'm just picturing a kid with thousands of sand pebbles in his pocket (making him rich by the simple fact that sand is currency), except he loses half of his wealth when he pulls out a handful and the sand slips through his fingers onto the floor. Maybe I'm looking at this wrong?

When you step out of your room you are informed about how decisions affect your relationship. Every time you go up to your room or return from your room, this repeats itself. A self switch can be used to turn it off after playing once.

Outside, when you meet up with Mako, the leaves do not fall until after he puts up the sign, then they all seem to fall at once. I think it would look better if the leaves were falling the moment you are outside as a parallel process.

I can walk under the wagon next to my house (passability should be set to prevent that).

Again, that's just my initial take on this. I'll edit this or post more after I've played awhile longer.

Edit: Shorter demo than I realized. Not bad overall. Mapping was pretty decent, aside from some passability issues, and the puzzles were fun. Battles need to be a bit more balanced, though. It seemed I'd have to run and restore myself at the save crystal after each fight.

Amerk I really appreciate you taking the time to test the game! I will try to address everything you mentioned here! :)

1. spelling mistakes will exist until the game is finished. At that time I will have it proof read :D no sense in having it proof read 100x as I rewrite and add dialogue all over the place.

2. sand being the currency is an outdated comment for an old idea, and will not be the case anymore. Infact, the whole tutorial is going to be removed in the interest of creating a game that is self teachable. It will give the player much more of a sense of accomplishment as they learn new things.

3.I never noticed the leaves didn't start falling right away. you are the first to catch that. I'm surprised noone has mentioned that the leaves falling are red, but there are no red trees in sight ;) the leaves are green in the real version now. :)

4.the wagon you can walk under, next to your house, is actually a bug i knew about already and have fixed in the real game. It is a parallax issue and not a pass-ability issue, as that entire map is parallax :P

5. The initial fights are meant to be a struggle to give the player a sense of struggle as well, as this fighting thing is a bit new to our hero... but they ease up as the game goes on, as you get new skills and etc. To be honest though, as the creator, and knowing exactly how it is meant to be played, I can beat those fights, only having to go back to the crystal every 3 fights or so. so there is a chance a player could just blow through them.

6. That being said, for the sake of beginners, only 1 of those fights are even mandatory. If your feeling like you cant take on another foe, dont press enter on the creature to provoke the attack :P player has that choice :D

anyway, I hope I addressed all of your concerns! thanks again for checking it out! I appreciate that! Tonnes more has been finished since that demo was released! stay tuned! new screen shots soon, Plus mapping has improved!

If leaves are falling, I'm guessing it's the autumn season. I thought about them being red, but only because I thought it was a good color. Never dawned on me the trees were green. But if it's fall, it may make more sense having the trees red? The misspellings were minor, it was an observation rather than a nitpick. Anyways, I'm all for challenging battles, and don't mind fighting them, but I think what might help would be:

1. To lower the cost of (drawing a blank on their names now), the hero's skill which costs 30 MP and can only be used twice before he needs to restore until like around level 4; maybe lower the skill to 20 MP so it gets used about 3 times before needing MP restored.

2. And the other guy (another freaking blank, I must be tired), allow his healing spell to be used on the character of choice. If I'm not mistaken, it only works on the user now.

3. Add in a couple of extra MP potions in the temple.

4. Or at the very least, maybe place another healing crystal in the area with the shield puzzle so it doesn't feel like people have to walk so far to get back to where they can heal.

Very impressed with your project. It's one of the best looking RPGmaker games out there (Inspired me to scrap my original learning project and start a better one! haha).

Looking forward to when the next time a demo is up!

Haha wow man, thats sick. What was your learning project? Is it on the forums? :P my learning game was pretty funny. Made it for my girlfriend and made it so everyone in the game was people she knew in real life. was silly and full of inside jokes. Id love to see your learning stuff.

I'll be looking for people to proof read and bug hunt once the game is finished, I'd be interested in asking around now to avoid a down time of asking around later.

Man I LOVE your projects banner! Thats gorgeous. Btw, did you do the art for your battle sprites? Cus those are really cool too!

Thanks, the banner is using mainly RTP images, so I can't really hog credit for it :)

The battle sprites are from a game called "Draglade" on the DS. I just recolour and tweak them slightly as required.
