eto111 2 Posted February 16, 2014 Hi, I have been playing around with rpg maker vx ace for a bit and have made a few maps I intend to use for a game, but as im quite new id like some feedback This map is a typical weapon and armour shop This next one is a general one floor house This next one is like the center of the town, other paths lead off into other bits of the town but for now, this is just the center, Ignore that they are lifeless and have no events I havent quite gotten that far yet in the production of my game I was just testing my mapping skills Any feedback would be nice, But I am also looking for some help Not long into my game this village is attacked and when the player wakes up it is burning down. How can I create this graphically? Can anyone give me any tips on what to use to create that burning feeling of the town for the player but also what tiles i could use to show its on fire ect, ive tried using many tiles that have fire but I cant get them to look right and its frustrating me. Thanks guys
Tsarmina 2,612 Posted February 16, 2014 I would shift-click some of those carpets around the lower walls of the houses and such to make them appear to extend "to" the wall rather than stop at where the view is. As for the burning, I know there's a fire animation and several different sizes of it in the events, also there's a bunch of smoke animations too, however the tiles would be tough. I know there's a sooty RTP tile on the Interior set.
magic2345 252 Posted February 16, 2014 For the weapon/armor shop, try putting details here and there. Like actual armors and weapons on display. Also, remember that clerks have a life too, if the clerk lives in the shop, you could make a bedroom on the second floor or something like that. For the house, try to make the map feel "homely". Smaller rooms works well here, I feel that in your map there are lots of open spaces, and that it is making it hard to decorate and make it look unique. This depends on the setting though. For the center town map, it seems a little bland. Maybe put more of those grass autotiles and more trees? Varying the shape of the houses could work too The knack for mapping comes from experiments and practice, you'll get better in no time!
