@geluf:

Indeed fitting for some tactical battle. These kinds of wars where you see the whole world map right in front of you and you have to decide where to strike first. The intro creates this great anticipation.The middle part and the last third reminds of the epicness and the dimensions of the war.

The production sounds clean and strong enough to me. Could imagine this in a commercial project.

Now, while this track already creates a rich atmosphere, it still feels sort of empty. I would have prefered it, if there was some more percussion to emphasize the rhythm of the low strings, especially during the first third. It should be very much possible to include some orchestral percussion elements without distracting too much from the melodies.

However, this is based on my personal taste.

@kindmadness:

It sounds like a good ol' standard rpg-battle. Sounds a little goofy, yet still fitting for an action-heavy battle scene. Would sound good in a light-hearted, humorous rpg. Got the atmosphere down. However, that ascending trumpet (?) melody gets annoying after a while, there is just a tad too much of it. Maybe change it to another instrument for some parts, or just skip it at some parts.

Übrigens: Grüße aus Deutschland!

Now, I have a WIP I'd like to share. It's a battle theme for some sort of rival or nemesis character. The idea was to include a very memorable melody that could also be used in different tracks, to give a specific character in a game its own theme song/theme melody.

Obelion, your rival theme is extraordinary! I love how tense it is, and when the choir chimes in, it makes for a really exciting listen! I can only wonder now what improvements you can possibly make to the theme.

I'm using a far less sophisticated program to make music, but it works for me since I'm not fully well versed in music composition. Still, it makes me proud I'm able to come up with something that sounds nice. Be gentle on me, all! This is a dungeon theme.

The embed wasn't playing nice, so I made it a clickable link.

In my opinion, if you compare other instrument with the piano, the piano feels, well, choppy. It does give the creepy atmosphere, not gonna lie there, but, the piano should either be legato, or reverb, or something to remove the choppiness. Either way, the piece was amazing though! ^^

What can I say? It sounds like Castlevania and Samurai are fighting each other! It's just that awesome! I would recommend making the short notes (I believe the harmonica starting at 0:19?) a little louder, but too much, just so that people can listen to it properly as well! Though if you don't want to, or sound not what you want to, then that's fine as well!

I do apologies about the post without reviewing, I should have read it more properly... >_>

Anyway, This is something I am working on as well. It suppose to be a final boss music, though I am not sure if it sounds like one or not. Either way, here is a public Dropbox link for you guys here!

Hey guys, I'd like to hear what some of you think about this track.  If I were to critique it myself I would probably say it is too busy.

I'm thinking of removing the synth voices around the middle of the track.

This is the first thing I made with some new software, so please remember I am only a beginner.

Anyways I named it after my favorite deodorant xD Hope you like it.

@Kaimen

Well... I don't think I need to leave feedback here now - I already said how cool your songs are. ^^

@jameslovestf

I love chiptune/8 bit! Your track is nice, but some instruments are too loud and this song is very repetitive. Also, adding more 'action' to it would be good, considering it's a battle theme. (=

@DJBailey

Whoa! 'Winter Expedition' sounds so good and relaxing! The title of the song fits very well, I love that 'sparkle' (IDK how to explain that better =P) sound and it really gives the 'winterish' feeling.

@eatorl

Yes, this really sounds like a town/tavern music. Nice theme! (=

@geluf

That's a really nice theme! I think it would be good for some scene/event before some boss battle. IDK why, but I'm thinking about castle/dragons theme. =P

@Obelion

I think I heard that before... do you have your own thread? Anyway it sounds so good. I love the energy that is coming from that piece! Great job! (=

@Phil-S

For me it sounds more like 'something bad happened' or 'creepy dungeon' theme =P As for me it's kinda too much repetitive, but it also depends on game type - not saying it's bad. This theme creates a kinda weird~creepy atmosphere and that's cool! ^^

@Theweirdomaxim

Fun fact - the link doesn't work, but the thingie below works. Anyway, for me it's not serious enough for a battle theme. I can feel some 'heroic' and 'happy ending' themes in it ~ though it sounds simple and great!

And... Here is my very first 8 bit song ever, I was just learning how the program works. I followed an example to learn stuff and do things.

It sounds bad I know, I was just learning and what is more, I was doing that on my smartphone and it kinda broke when playing on a different emulator ~ timing broke and you may notice weird sounds etc.

To be honest, that's far from awful, it sounds really awesome. It's catch bouncy, and the notes compliment each other with none (if limited) dissonance. It's a great start, and the tune doesn't get boring, which is brilliant! :) Great work on that considering that it's your first 8bit song! :)

As a battle theme it is slightly lacking in the power behind it, at the beginning, I'd suggest adding an octave below bass note in the piano.

In the main section, I'd suggest adding 2 lower octaves on the main piano section, to give it body, and depth, I'd suggest with your strings if possible, adding some variations in the dynamics, to give it a little more life to the strings, as they feel a little flat and lack life, and are giving a "shotgun effect". Changing the velocities should help slightly.

I've got a little WIP that I've been working on recently. it originally was going to be a Café theme, but now I'm beginning to think it's a more VN school theme.

Did you get an inspiration from Sims by any chance? Because that EXACTLY sounds like it! To add more details, it sounds like RomCom maid/park cafe, which I actually like it! Though I would suggest turn the tempo down, but not too much. :)

Seriously, that sounds amazing, even if it wasn't 8-bit. And you did this first timer too?! You have a better than I ever had in music in general! Seriously, well done, no nickpicky or anything here! :P

---------------------------

Now this one I made on sunday, and I actually experimented this to get even better on piano, So I just used the bass concept more than the melody (I was playing around the melody if I have to be honest!) So here there are:

@Kaimen:

Though you said you can't make town music, the Peaceful Village is actually unique.

Both battle theme are fitting for boss battle, although Launch at The Enemy is supposed to be a regular battle theme.

Good work!  :lol:

@geluf:

It's pretty fitting for a tactical battle theme! I imagine a large field full of enemy troops... Which force the heroes to battle strategically.

@Rikifive:

It's actually very good... And catchy! It's more surprising because it's your first time! I think you can make your own music for your game too.  ^_^

@Jonnie91:

Actually it's not like a cafe music... But it sounds happy and I love it. ^^

@Theweirdomaxim:

The final boss music is more fitting to become an opening theme or title theme. For the Sweet Memories... It's fitting pretty well. I like it  ^_^

Okay, now here's my music!

Why, thank you! Though as I said, I was following an example (tutorial) so the melody isn't 100% mine ~ though I edited it a bit. And not only it's my first 8 bit song ever ~ actually it's the first (any) song even created - I'm not a musician, but I got interested in making 8 bit, because I love it! So, I decided to learn how to use that. (=

I think I heard that song before... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) JK, I know where (= I must admit ~ it sounds quite simple, yet amazing. I love the instruments used here. And yeah, it sounds more like a school theme ~ younger people etc. Generally it sounds really good and it would fit as a background music perfectly.

Also I took a look on your website, *amazed* you're really skillful! I see you're capable of working with different music types. I really liked 16 bit main menu loop, piano you have there and some other ones. =3 Nice!

Whoa! That's amazing, I wish I could play on piano that good. (actually I wish I could play at all =P) Great job, I also want to just to hug you! (=

Thank you, though as I said, the melody isn't fully created by me ~ let's say I had notes to help me out ~ and I edited some parts of song + made intruments etc.. I'm just saying that, because I'm not that skillful as it seems. =P But really, thank you! (=

Your song is really great and +100 points for actually playing on piano! It's really beautiful and I'm kinda jealous ~ I wish I could play like this, I really love piano. There's nothing to add, it's just perfect and relaxing. I also took a look on your YT channel (to check for more songs =P) and I'm quite impressed, you're really great! =3

Okay, now here's my music!

Thank you! But still I was working with notes and I think I'm not good with creating my own melody yet. =P

Oh this is amazing! Holy balls! I love the sound you've put there! This kinda reminds me of beginning themes (first cities etc.) in some good RPG games. This totally sounds professional, it's just perfect! Great work!

XD I feel so stupid for posting this, I'm really sorry. XD

This is my second song ever created - but this time, I didn't follow examples - I only had notes. So basically I just manually converted a song into 8 bit. (=

So... I can't believe I did this but... I went and listened to the original to see how accurate your recreation is. And surprisingly, for being your second song ever, this is very well done. Recreating songs by ear is also very helpful to get a feel for music and from what I heard here, you seem to have a good ear. 8 bit might not be that complicated but it's a good start.

Fun fact, when I started making music, I remade classic video game soundtracks for practice. Keep it up! :)

Okay, it's been a while since I've posted here. That's because of... reasons but anyway... I have something I am very proud of for you. So, some days ago I got all the issues I had with FL Studio sorted out (after "only" one year...) and went back to using it along with Miroslav Philharmonik (which is what caused those issues). The result was a new line of compositions, "Kaimen Orchestra" - three so far. Since I haven't been using FL and Miroslav for a long time I'd like to hear some opinions. :)

Here's the playlist.

Kaimen lol, thank you! xD ~ Yeah, 8 bit isn't that complicated, but still kind of challenging. xD

These sound really good, great for some classical RPGs. The only thing (for me of course) is lack of energy --- but it's only in the first piece - "Castle Of The Fiends" and "Great Ruler of the Dark" sound more 'full' if you know what I mean. (=

All pieces have that "castle'ish" theme and are well done. (=

I'm kinda curious - have you considered making more 'energetic' music? =P I'm curious how that would sound like. =3

Hey all this is a place for all of you to ask and give feedback on tracks you might be working on! :) As the title stipulates, this is for WIP Music only, this includes SE and ME as well as standard music tracks.

Any music that is posted here, can be WIP or something you've just finished and want feedback, please note that all work here is to be thought of not as free resources and you are NOT to use any music that is posted here, unless the creator says otherwise! :)

I hope I don't need to say this, but please be constructive! :) Also, it would be appreciated if you comment on someone elses post before posting your own! it's only polite!

I'll start us off:

I'd really quite like some critique on these pieces that I've just written:

JSM Party Pack

Question, can cover/arrangement music counts as well, or only originals?

I actually have to disagree with you there, Rikifive, I think the energy was given just right! Though if I have to be honest, I think you, Kaimen, used a little too many instruments. Don't get me wrong, I like them all! However, I do feel some instrument left off would make it more better. For example, Track 4: Puzzles, I feel like you don't need string(s). But other than that, I like it! :D

------------------

This is kinda an unfair trade (I think), but I could not criticize things more (I am sorry!). However, I am posting two covers here. Both in chipsounds!

The first one is one visual/audio test I did to see wheather it makes the music feel more... alive I guess you could say. So here's the first one, Super Smash Bros. 4 Main Theme:

The second one is, let's admit, one of my favorite tracks in video game catalog, or music in general! So here it is, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Cornered 2001:

(If prefer SoundCloud):

(Yes, I know Cornered was already chipsounded, but still!)

And that's it!! Enjoy! ^^

Though I don't listen much to chiptunes music, I love it!

It sounds "balanced" aldready.

Not too empty, not too crowded.

Honestly I haven't listened to the original tune yet.

But your cover made me think it's the original one.

Well done! :D

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This one is a rearranged version of a traditional Indonesian song which originated from Java.

There's also an Indonesian snack with the same name.

Actually the song itself tells about this snack.

....Here's the picture of Gethuk. :3

The good old progressing music (aka adding one track at a time) can be done either right, or plain wrong. In this case, it was done perfectly! Honestly, the only thing I can see being unnatural per say, is the drums at around 1:28, but even so, it's a wonderful piece and I love it!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now this music is coming to YouTube, but as of you might remember, I actually did this as a chipsounds version, but here is Cave Story Main Theme, in orchestra (and music box) version!

Edit: Can someone teach me how to embed Soundcloud music here, I quite don't understand the format. :)

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to provide any feedback, since there hasn't been anything new on this in a while, but I have something to share myself.

This is a song that I've made fairly recently to be used as one of the battle (or potentially boss) themes in my main game project. It's very sample-heavy, and if you think it sounds kind of weird for RPG music then I've kind of done my job (I take a lot of inspiration from games like Earthbound). Though at times, when I'm listening to my own music, especially on tracks like this one, I kind of wonder whether I go too far on the weird. But that's why I'd like some feedback!

@Tuckie, it's still nice to share feedback on other's pieces, even if it has been a while, it might bring forth more conversation and learning for others this way.

With regards to your track, it's certainly got a rather original sound to say the least, the use of various phone samples is pretty cool. Although it might be a little to far for me to handle, If this is looped as a track, it could start to fatigue listeners ears.

I'm not sure whether you used a compressor on this piece, but it feels a little "pumped" that could just be me.

Thanks for replying! I'll make sure to give feedback on others' pieces on the future, I just wasn't sure it would be relevant this late.

I doubt that I'll ever be able to change the fact that my music has a "weird", it's just my personality and also what fits the theme of the game. However, because of that, I worry a lot about the accessibility of my music a lot. I guess that's why I'm sharing it. When I'm just doing my own thing, I sometimes don't have a lot of regard for my intended listeners, and that could harm the quality.

As for the compression, I (personally) didn't do anything to the instruments. The whole song is almost entirely made of sampled sound effects. The nature of plunderphonics typically leads it to a more lo-fi sound.

So here it is. Let me know what you think!

The music does sound original, and I can see this being use like in phone factory or phone operator office in Earthbound. Also it does sound Earthbound-y, but like Jonnie91 said, I wouldn't listen to this continuously if it was in loop. Still, it was a very interesting concept to use other VSTs like phone instead of piano or violin to say the least, so good job on that part!

WARNING! WARNING! IF YOU KNOW THIS, PREPARE TO CRY!!

So, before 6 months of the upload date of this video, I tried to learn the piece, Dango Daikazoku. On December, I published this cover. Till now, it's one of my favorite covers I did! Ladies and Gentlemen, (If you haven't read the warning sign)... prepare to cry.

EDIT: I should also mention that this the T.V size version, so yeah. :)
