Jonnie91 1,149 Posted February 24, 2014 Hey all this is a place for all of you to ask and give feedback on tracks you might be working on! As the title stipulates, this is for WIP Music only, this includes SE and ME as well as standard music tracks. Any music that is posted here, can be WIP or something you've just finished and want feedback, please note that all work here is to be thought of not as free resources and you are NOT to use any music that is posted here, unless the creator says otherwise! I hope I don't need to say this, but please be constructive! Also, it would be appreciated if you comment on someone elses post before posting your own! it's only polite! I'll start us off: I'd really quite like some critique on these pieces that I've just written: JSM Party Pack
+ randomstranger 60 Posted March 1, 2014 My favourite one is the nomad one!Um, not much critique to offer here... maybe the balance could use some adjustment? Sometimes I could hear something happening but not well enough to know what it was. The only other thing was that that cello sound takes a moment to speak and it sounds like it's arriving late, particularly in the second piece. I don't if that can be helped though? Cecillia 652 Posted March 3, 2014 Really love The Nomad. The way the cello is in that piece brings out a melancholic effect which matches with the word "Lonely" in the title. For the King arrives, it felt a bit too simple for me especially since this title pertains to a King. I imagine more of a majestic type of knight or princess rather than a King. Usually kings are powerful figures, and if there was a form of brass or forté type of notes, it'd really have given off that vibe. Hope this helps!
TheHarmp 155 Posted March 3, 2014 The Dreamer is very good too! It really resonates with me. Keep up the good work.
Clydous 2 Posted March 9, 2014 Ah! A music-posting thread! Wonderful! "The Royal Queen" was my favorite one of the tracks on the playlist. It could very well be that I'm a huge sucker for waltzes, but I was quite fond of its combination of strings, woodwinds, and the piano. The strings did, at certain points, feel as though they were overpowering the rest of the instruments, though. This was prevalent to me at around 9:50-ish to 10:12. Otherwise, though, great! I agree with Cicillia in regards to "The King Has Arrived." I felt it sounded....for lack of a better word, empty...? I don't mean to come off as offensive when I say this, but I don't know...I suppose I expected a more regal kind of feeling to it? The harpsichord works well, as it should in the face of other instruments, but its accompaniment in that piece didn't do much overall for it. Again, I don't mean to come off as a jerk...forgive me if it seems that way! *meep* D:I suppose I'll continue, though, with something I posted up not long ago. The motif for this tune was brainstormed in like...2011? 2012? Can't remember, but it started out as a project in Finale, and, due to the program's habit of constantly crashing on me, was completed in FL Studio. A real shame, too, as I'm quite fond of the piano sound of the Garritan instruments in Finale. Ah well. Oh, and I didn't fully master this one. Need to work on it more to get the piano sounding more realistic... D: In any case, I hope you all enjoy this one. I need to get more active in making new stuff...or actually FINISHING old stuff! TheHarmp 155 Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) It might sound a little bit too much like a bad electro song right now, but I've been working on this to get a BGM that changes over time (or according to situations) but keeps mostly the same melody, I'll probably cut it in 1 or 2 minute pieces, and try out some other versions/ sounds for this. and I'll probably slow the song down quite a bit, to make it more of an atmospherical song than a semi dance tunehttps://soundcloud.com/harmp/theharmp-marwans-melody (and ofcourse, feel free to listen to any other sounds I've got up there, but most of those weren't made with RM in mind, I like messing around in Fruity Loops when I'm bored or high.) any and all critiques or comments are more than welcome! + EraYachi 180 Posted March 18, 2014 @TheHarmp: Well! I rather enjoyed that! It would really suit a sci-fi game, but probably more of a title/credit song. The first 30 seconds or so make great map music, but the rest gets just a little too epic for a scene or map. Maybe an overworld theme? If you can make a version that's not as noisy (in a good way), it would definitely be more atmospheric. But it does make me want to dance. xD Anyway, here's an odd addition. No music for me, but I'm doing voice acting/voice manipulation for 1 of the characters in Inwards. The creepy little girl, to be precise. She's the only one with a voice (So far, and likely will be the only one with a voice for the entire game), namely because I can't afford to pay anyone but myself to voice act. Anyway! So this is a clip of Play talking to the main character, Liam, about Vincent, the tag-along teddy bear. It's me speaking into Audacity, cleaned up and altered to seem more young-girlish, naive + spooky. https://soundcloud.com/erayachi/voice-acting-sample-1-little Lemme know whatcha think. Too cheesy? Don't ask how I managed this. I make a good little girl apparently, something for which I am not...strictly proud of.

I'll probably make shorter versions of it, and definitely not the full song as it is now. I'll try to go for that atmospheric feel for the map music, cause that's what I meant it to be. That voice really is creepy. Very well done, I don't think it's cheesy at all. "All toys lie, they make children cry." I don't quite know why, but that's a really haunting sentence. Clydous 2 Posted March 20, 2014 @EraYachi: Certainly good! The diction is crisp and clear, and the line is delivered well. Share more with us! =D Anywho, here is another one I recently pushed out. I was able to fully mix and master it...something I've longed to do more with previous pieces. But I had more time and the know-how needed to do it this time around, sooo....great! Enjoy~! + EraYachi 180 Posted March 20, 2014 @Clydous: Yowza. Man, I loved that! It screamed 'Ratchet and Clank' to me for some reason. xD I could listen to that for at least an hour. It's got an industrial flare that would make it perfect for anything Steampunk or Industrial age. I do think you did go a bit overboard--the counter-melody works, but the percussions just makes it feel messy. Still fantastic! Just the constant 16th notes, that 'ticking' kinda seemed outta place. The slower parts were amazing, but perhaps consider adjusting the volume of different tracks to soften some parts to make the melody stand more? And finally, the synth horn that plays the melody (first introduced at 0:14) is great, but something more...punctuated (hard to think of the terms I need here), something that isn't so low-frequency might sound better. Everything else seemed to drown it out and it didn't boom, like it should. In my opinon. You want me to share more? Okay, but there's a total of 14 clips I've recorded and this is the second-best. Unfortunately it does have a bit of a tinny effect in one place, and no amount of frequency-altering could smooth it out in Audacity. It's strange, I make a poor voice actor with just my regular un-altered voice. Increase the pitch, and it's less annoying. Pha! carfie 21 Posted March 25, 2014 Little Girl VA Sample 2: The quality in intonation is perfect but I would EQ the part with less treble, more mid and a tiny amount of bass to give the sound more a natural feeling. Emotion in a voice is one of the most important thing imo and it sounds convincing.I drop my latest track here. It is COMPLETELY different then anything else I have done before (and I tried lots of styles). When Bugs Roam Ur House 656 Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) I like how you can clearly hear the rhythm and the general melody of the song. It sounds very jazzy to me. : ) my forte is definitely not composition.... but.... hmm, i think it could sound better if there was a smoother transition to 0:25 (where the pitch gets high). And then... i think the parts between 1:50 - 2:01 might have a bit too many changes in rhythms. But it's a good song. : > .... Omggggg, everyone here is so good. >_< And i definitely do not compose as my main hobby.... so i feel very intimidated!! Posting my song... >__< Urggg. It feels pretty lame... and i made it in Midi Maker too lol... i like Midi Maker because it's easy though. Jonnie91 1,149 Posted March 26, 2014 Sounding really good so far! Love how each section of the track fits together perfectly! It's simplistic and actually sounds really good Bugs So I recently finished this piece, it was made in one "take" and then edited slightly, but I really enjoyed writing it: Beauty in The Rain
Kio 0 Posted March 26, 2014 Wow, I'm loving all the different songs here! :3 I don't really have much to offer in terms of critique though. I actually have three different songs to share, I hope that's okay. uwu Here's the first town theme. It's supposed to be a port town, but I don't really think I'm good at making town themes, I just wanted to make something that wouldn't get too repetitive. Here's the intro music for when you start a new game. I feel like the buildup might be a little too long, considering the song's really only going to be playing for a short amount of time. I guess if people would want to listen to it they could just sit and listen. XD This one is kind of a three-in-one type deal. Later in the game I'm going to be throwing in some survival-horror elements (at least I hope to), and of course I wanted to make some good intense music for it! The first theme is basically what plays when the enemy appears. The second is when it's actively searching for you, and the third is when it's chasing you. I feel like the anvil might be a little too loud but I'm not entirely sure, in-game it may blend in just fine.
geluf 38 Posted April 16, 2014 I'm currently working on an overworld theme to add to the free resources in my thread. Check out what I have so far and tell me what you think!https://soundcloud.com/geluf/overworld-in-progress
Cecillia 652 Posted April 16, 2014 It really does suit an overworld theme. I like how enigmatic it sounds in the beginning like it really does sound like you're open to a great unknown. The only part I'm not fond of is the percussion that comes in near the end. I think it's drums? But it sort of feels awkward with the pretty/enigmatic orchestral notes/instruments going on.
geluf 38 Posted April 16, 2014 Drums backing orchestra instruments is definitely a matter of personal tastes, and a fairly divisive issue. I will likely end up making 2 versions: one with drums and one without. That way people can simply choose which they prefer. Thank you for the feedback, Cecillia!
Jonnie91 1,149 Posted April 16, 2014 To me the drums feel like it's about to go somewhere, but then seem to be a bit lackluster in some respect a hint more reverb and a bit of a bass boost (only slight mind) will give the drums a little bit more of a body to them! Once you've given them more body, I am positive they will sound amazing Great job either way Geluf! Always a joy to listen to your pieces Might I ask what Orchestral instruments you are using? They do sound beautiful!
geluf 38 Posted April 16, 2014 Thanks Jonnie. Yeah, I don't typically balance the reverb and such until the very end, so that'll definitely get tweaked once I finish the piece itself. As for the instruments! I'm using an Oboe and Bassoon from ProjectSam's Lumina library, strings and horn from Orchestral Essentials, The drums and bass are the on-board Kontakt samples for now (studio drummer), but will probably change.

Schematist 47 Posted May 19, 2014 @Geluf… I can’t tell how much I was pleased when that bass kicked in at 56 seconds. It really brought a nice feeling of nostalgia to the classic RPG titles. It reminded me a lot of Chrono Trigger. This had a very nice explorative feeling all around as well! @Carfie... I am really digging your retro style. I just started getting into using 8 bit instruments as well, but I am not even close to this level yet. Reminds of the days of Nintendo when every game had one difficulty (HARD) I wanted to try combining 8bit instruments with some modern sounds to see what the end result would sound like. I had a lot of fun making this track and I think I might try to do more in this style. Feedback is always appreciated!
Jonnie91 1,149 Posted May 26, 2014 @Schematist Really loving the retro/modern feel here! it fits really nicely together and beautifully catchy great job @Carfie: Sounding authentic and great quality Are you using a tracker for these pieces or vsts/sfz I've got something of a jazzier piece I'd quite like to get some feedback on, I've not done Jazz since college so would be lovely to know what you guys think of this: https://soundcloud.com/jonnie91/coffee-with-cream Thanks for your feedback
