Character Design and Title Screen Feedback. ^_^

Recommended Posts

I would really like some feedback on a character design for my game as well as the titles screen that I drew for it.

Something specific I want to know for the title screen is if the words are readable.

Thanks! :D

Well I love the design style of your character although maybe it's just me but her feet look a little funny.

I can read crimson world on title but not sure if it's too much dark red washing out the more subtle details of the background

Impressive! I do echo Allied, however, about the feet. The legs too, are very odd-shaped. It actually makes it look like her legs are on backwards. xD Additionally, her hands are quite small, even for the smallest-handed anime characters I've ever seen.So unless that's an artistic style uniform across all characters (Fire Emblem: Awakening tiny feet, anyone?), they're distractingly small. And finally, there's a very strange shaped gap under her left (our right) shoulder. I'd just eliminate the gap entirely.

Love the colouring and shading work. Perhaps make a dark outline around the title text on the title screen? It's readable, but it looks kinda flat/bland/uninspiring. The picture is so full of contrasts, but the title is just...there. Bright red. :)

I would lengthen the straight planes of her face. The way it is now, her face starts pointing towards her chin interestingly high (about cheekbone level) when really it should start slanting at an angle like that only under the ear, and an inch lower than the bottom of the ear as well. :)

The title is legible, but at first I thought it said "Crimsoy" ^^" Maybe you should bevel it out a little, to make it pop.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I'll get on it right away! :D

Should I post again so that you may see the changes? :)

How do I post pictures in a post like this? :/

Or do I have to update the original post? Well, I guess I'll do that anyways...

Use the full editor and upload from there, or you can use an image hosting site like me, ex Imgur. :)

Oh, thanks! :D

Here are the updated pictures!  :D

I tried my best to correct all the mistakes suggested here.  :)

Although the girl's feet still look weird. Can anyone help me with this? :/

Thank you! :D

But..

You don't have anything else to say? Can you read the words on the title screen clearly?

You can also compare before and after. :) Are the changes good?

I can easily tell it says Crimson World on the before version, I was a little unsure for a few seconds on the after version though which would be a problem for anyone who has no idea it's supposed to say Crimson World, your choice though.

The character I can't comment on, I'm not an artist and I don't see any problems with it (because I'm not an artist).

Good work regardless I think.

Here! I worked on the title screen a bit more! How is it now!? :)

Oh! Or should the shadow be less dark? I lowered the opacity on this one.

Which is better?

I like the lowered opacity one, but I was reading crirysoy instead of crimson lol.  Those loops are throwing me off.  Maybe add a bit more contrast on the black/red in the background since it looks a bit too bright red, but when I think crimson I think of a dirtier/darker red.

As for the character, it's pretty good, but my eyes r saying that you should increase the hips width just a bit and then give her right leg a lil bend on the knee cause it looks like it should be bent but it's too parallel with the other leg.  As for the feet, I feel it's just the right one where the leg goes to the foot? lol idk how to explain it but it should be sharper or it might be the shoe.

The feet might be throwing you off because as a vague anatomical rule, your feet tend to be almost the size of your face. (This is changed slightly to fit manga proportions, of course, but her feet are still very small.)

Darn... I tried to fix the n so that it looks more like an n... maybe I should change the font? TT^TT

Hmmm... but to me crimson is the brightest red...? I guess I'll try again...

As for the character, her knees are supposed to be underneath the skirt. Is that too hard to tell? :/

I'll try to fix the character again, but it's so hard... -_-

Thank you so much for the feedback though! :D

Well... I guess my feet are smaller than most peoples..can fit in size 3-5 adult? :3

So, I should make them bigger? I guess I'll try a bit...

Thank you very much! :D

Well the bright red is fine, but you need to darken to darks so it can have better contrast imo.  As for the font you could rasteralize it (idk how to spell it lol) then with mask/crop out the loops ( I prefer masks incase i crop too much, I can color it back in. )  You could probably leave the loops on the N since its at the end.

Oh no I didn't mean her actual knees, I just mean to like rotate her leg a bit to make it look as if her knee is bent.  But I'm not completely sure, I could never draw poses correct for the lower half of the body lol

Oh okay. I'll try that I guess, but how would I do it? :/

But then, shouldn't I crop out the loop on the n since it looks too much like a y?

Depends what program you're using.  For photoshop for the color, you would do layer adjustments, either gradient map, levels, curves or brightness/contrast.  And for the logo, right click the text and click rasterlize then go layer > layer mask > reveal all, then on the layer mask layer color anything you don't want to show with black.

And since the n is at the end, when my eyes get to it we've already seen crimso, and might just automatically assume it's an n.

Other programs have the layer adjustment stuff but I don't think they have rasterlize or layer masks.

well the character is a bit out of anatomy and the color used in shading is a bit dark. but i think its your style in the game well its good ^_^ and the game title is not much of a welcome to players playing but still good enough!. sorry if im so rude but im just criticizing.

Alright! Thank you for your critique! But, could you go into a little more detail as to how I can fix things? :D

Okay, so does photoshop elements work like that too? That's all I have for photoshop...

Ah yeah, that does help. (Though I kind of liked the loopy C in crimson.) I'm guessing from the font and coloring that this is sort of a horror game, am I right? :)
