AJNR 156 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) I have a sprite that's making me beat my head because I can't find any resources for a "Dress in the wind" animation. I've done the base, but I'm trying to wrap my head around the animation for the dress. I tried to draw some keyframes for the animation. These keyframes are probably all wrong, but I think you could assume the type of animation I'm aiming for. The only resource I've found is this one, but it's impossible for me to get the frames and I would considered it NFSW (Partial Nudity) so open it with privacy, it's a .swf (flash) link: Link It looks like a lot, but I don't mind the amount of frames it'll use, but I could just use some help with the animation of the lower dress. The rest I can do on my own. Edited May 4, 2014 by AJNR
charlesthehurst 691 Posted April 7, 2014 Here's a real rough idea. Kinda depends on the winds direction. And the fabric. :/ sorry this was the best I can do.
trapless 12 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) missing a frame before and after the original pic.. (00)(1missing1)(22)(33)(44)(55)(6missing6) tag, anyone else is it! Edited April 7, 2014 by trapless
AJNR 156 Posted April 7, 2014 Woah, holy crap, both of those are great! Thanks for the help, both of you I'll try to create the animation by the end of today using the reference of both (I'll see if I can mix both). Thanks a ton (and those posts were pretty fast too!). AJNR 156 Posted April 21, 2014 Necroposter here. I said I was going to upload the image by today, and had completely forgotten about it. So the hair is not animated, there are still minor tweaks to be made, the lines of the bottom of the dress may or may not be removed, yadda yadda yadda Sorry Charles, I said I was going to mix both of your animations together (which I will), so hopefully a more final version will be up this coming week
charlesthehurst 691 Posted April 21, 2014 Sorry Charles, I said I was going to mix both of your animations together (which I will), so hopefully a more final version will be up this coming week Haha it's alright. It's looking good as it is. Can't wait to see the final result.
When Bugs Roam Ur House 656 Posted April 21, 2014 I like the style and colours you used for your sprite \o/ Also the animation so far looks like it might've taken awhile... there is really nice motion in there and attention to detail. \o/ \o/ (Kind of a weird compliment?) Hmm.. I personally think though... that the slight whiplash effect on her dress could be made a bit more relaxed. : ) I think it gives the wind a bit of an inconsistent feeling to it. Idk of course how exactly you wanted it, but here is something i thought might look nice on your sprite. : Individual frames themselves: I know it's a bit choppy, but you like it, you can use the individual frames as a base/reference or something.
AJNR 156 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) Yeah! More people! I love the support and feedback (it's a lot more than I expected). Okay, back on topic: I'll try to make it more relax, but keep this more violent effect for other animations. I wouldn't mind if the dress animation is this strong, going to switch from art concept to gameplay concept, because this is a summon character. A summon character with a bunch of power, and is hidden (side-quest stuffy stuff). But now that I think about, I'll make her idle animation have a more relaxed animation, and her action animations have this more active effect. Probably considering "slowing time" when she's summoned in battle, switching back to art concept, a more relaxed skirt animation will look more in-sync with the current animation hair I'm doing. So I guess I'll be using your reference for the idle animation with Charle's hair animation, and then this skirt animation will work as an Action animation with the hair animating upward in a more active manner. \o/ Edited April 21, 2014 by AJNR
When Bugs Roam Ur House 656 Posted April 22, 2014 Ahhhh, no wonder the sprite looks so custom then/ detailed! Sounds great to me. ( '^') I would've just liked your post btw, but i had to comment on that... gif. XDD It is crazy. LOL, i swear that could be a scene from Katamari Damacy.
Cecillia 652 Posted April 22, 2014 Love the animation of the skirt T_T I've been trying to study animation for a while but came to no avail. I can't wait to see more of your animations T w T
AJNR 156 Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) OP here with small update - I've been a little busy and haven't been able to touch this for the past couple of weeks (The definition of "busy" is left for the reader to ponder). So here is a small update with the help of A.M. and her animation (left) in comparison to the original (right) A.M.'s Version Trapless's Version For now, both are confirmed for Smash, the only edit I would have to make is the lines of Trapless's Version (to keep the skirt's design consistent). I still haven't been able to apply Charle's Hair animation, because it's been awhile since I last touched it, and I'm scared - to touch it. On a personal note, I'm suffering from a shaking leg and a jittery hand. I'll be changing the Topic of this thread into "Sprite Animations" so that I can upload animations of the other Battlers for help and/or critique. Thank you all for having faith in OP, despite his slower-than-dead-snails speed. Edit: I'll upload another animation when I have it finished for this Battler using a different method. It'll involve seperate body parts and transforming and/or changing their pose or perspective. This was taken in from watching how the Ubisoft Art Engine works, or because that's how Holder gets things done. Either way, new stuff to come this week. I'm really looking forward to see more from you. On a side note, I was curious to see what this sprite might look like with more color/definition. Here's a side by side experiment I did lol

I would love to animate with that style, but I'm too amateur to animate with that detail. I'll have like - one shade of shadow & highlight - for animating. But jesus christ, that is god like. I zoomed in on it with Paint.NET and noticed the impeccable placing and colors, it reminds me of this: Edited May 4, 2014 by AJNR
GreenRat 7 Posted May 5, 2014 Quick question. AJNR what do you use to Animate?
AJNR 156 Posted May 5, 2014 I'm using Paint.NET, if there're any programs that make this easier - it'd be cool to find out. I have GraphicsGale, but I've never really touched it.
GreenRat 7 Posted May 5, 2014 Oh, I Didn't know Paint.NET was able to do animations. I was actually asking so I can check it out. The only animation software I ever used was Flash, and I'm currently without it, so trying to find other things.
