I have been assaulted by a doubt regarding my game - but I decided to post about it in a different topic since this may help other people/developers.

I am pretty comfortable now with the "mid-range" level of details I'm putting in Lilium Cruentus, but I'm having a hard time with the battle system. The thing is: the main "core" is Galv's battle system (simple, beautiful, good) which uses Holder battlers. Of course, I'm using TONS of Holder's great material - even enemies. I had help from great peopel such as Ximenia and Yoda in this proccess, and I editted a lot of battlers as well.

But I ran into two problems: though I really want to invest time and resources, I probably won't be able to create all enemy battlers (because I really can't do art). I'm thinking on resorting to "cardboard" enemy sprites, Final Fantasy VI style. Would it be too unreasonable to use the Holder-style character battlers and cardboard enemy battlers?

If that's the case, should I use the simpler enemy battlers and sprite character battlers, (like symphony engine, jet engine, BASimple battle engine, etc)? I wouldn't like to give up on the Holder style, but I certainly don't want to create an unreasonable game, with a half-assed realism.

I hope I wasn't too confusing in this one.

And of course, if someone wishes to help with the graphical part I'm all ears!

Thanks again!

Not sure what you really mean, but I honestly have no problem with the unanimated/static battlers. You could always throw on the "breathing" script which adds a bit of animation.

But yeah, i'd go with simple enemies and animated actors if the art is a big problem for you.

I also have no problem for non-animated/static battler for enemies.

It won't bother me so much. As long as it's representative, it is okay.

I mean, it is not funny when you encountered an enemy named scorpio but you use lizard instead to keep it animated, because you only have animated lizard.

I'm also suck at graphical things, so I'd prefer to go simple

Thanks for the answers! I think I'll probably resort to static enemies then.

This definitely works when the player's battlers are sprites, but will it look neat using Holder battlers for the players and static enemies?

If you're referring to the example vid, I think it would work just fine. The enemy is static, and Holder battler players will just add a nice realistic motion effect (since they actually approach the enemy and such).
