Here is a screenshot of a representative of three 'cave' people tribes.  Trying to edit character sets on my own.  Appreciate honest critiquing.

In game play, more details of the 'tatooing' can be seen a little better.

Hello MinisterJay

A quick question of semantics before I begin. By caveman do you mean Homo sapien who lived in cave, or do you mean Neanderthal (which most people naturally think of when the term "caveman" is used.)?

The edit's aren't bad, but I didn't get a caveman/neanderthal feel from them.

Out of context of knowing they were cave people I would have assumed some were:

- normal tan colored people at a beach going for a swim

- a few look like they could be poor/impoverished people

- the red tattooed ones look like they have injuries.

Spriting is really difficult so I am not sure how I would go about giving advice, but the hair really stuck out as not cave people to me. Their hair styles are a bit too clean/polished, and the color should be pretty uniformly dark (the beards dont always match the heads on a few of your sprites.)

You may have to go a bit more blatantly sterotypical Neanderthal to really pull off the aesthetic. Make them larger than normal people, slightly hunched almost with longer arms and animal print clothes maybe... I'm really not sure =\

Hope that helped!

@ Dinhbat: Thanks for the commentary.  What I was attempting to create, was a homo sapiens like entity, that wears animal skins, and is initial fighting bare handed.  So far there is 3 tribes.   The medium toned skinned tend to not tattoo.  The light toned wear light blue tattoos.  The dark toned wear red tattoos.  Thanks for telling me that the red looks like blood.  Need a color change for that one then.

I think your best bet will be to embellish the clothing then.

Have each tribe have very distinct colors according to their region. Looking at them in the SS, I wasn't really able to distinguish 3 separate groups without knowledge about the differences in tattoos. Though the 2 men in the lower left seemed noticeably darker in skin tone.

Thanks a bunch.  I still have time to make amendments.

They look nice, but when I stand from afar, they actually just kind of look brown. :) Different shades of brown. Maybe like dipped in chocolate or something? ;) Just because they're tribes doesn't mean they must have brown hair...or black hair even. (Though those are indeed common.)

Thanks Tsarmina.  Do you think blonde hair for fair skinned.  Red hair for fairer.  Brunette for medium toned and darker toned.  And of course a few white haired (my biased favorite).  Or possibly doing mixtures to make it a little more confusing to 'eye' a potential enemy just by appearances?

That's fine :) You don't necessarily have to correspond hair color to skin tone, the sun can naturally softly "bleach" hair a little as well if some of them hunt outside or something. Oh--they're enemies? :x I didn't know that. Either way, I think it'll help to mix up the people a little.

Well, not necessarily enemies, but the clans are competing to get to the very final quest first to win. :)

Honestly the only problem I see with these is the hair, though I do believe it would be hard to create. I think a more scruffy/longer hairstyle would look more authentic, At this time people didn't really style their hair, I mean they probably didn't even have hair brushes yet.
