Some screenshots from my project 'Return of the Lost'

I'm partial to Jungles, and ones filled with dinosaurs trying to eat you is even better! Lol. The underground city sounds interesting too. Might I recommend a golden city for that? So that light from candles reflects in hues of yellow?

The underground city will actually have a blue tint, there are magical mushrooms that glow a luminous blue, the priests there use them as a magic source and also as a light source. But a golden city is pretty cool so I may have to use that one at some point. :D

I've always liked the idea, ever since heard of the legend of the city of gold. I always thought, " What if it is underground?" been hooked on the idea ever since. Lol

Extremely fine mapping, the play of light and shadow significantly enhance aesthetically pleasing design. Good job!

It is a pretty cool idea. I'm thinking an abandoned city filed with traps to get rid of any would be thieves. Might have to try and implement that into the game at some point.

Thanks :D I've been working on my lighting recently and I think I've improved. I've gone for more subtle lights since I noticed some of my lights can be a bit too bright. Hoping to get some more comparison shots up soon, once I have enough that is.

I absolutely love those trees, there's a good sense of scale to the map that's important. Also, very good light effects, looks very promising.

I've been touching up some of my maps and I decided to redo one map. Heres a before and after comparison. I've used different trees this time round. So my question to you all is which one should I go with? Personally I like the newer map better but I'm not sure to stick with these trees or keep using Hanzo's.

Oh and I've finally found a menu I like. No more boring default menu screen!

Yes, the after one definitely looks better :) Not just the mapping, but the top one also looked oversaturated.

I have to agree. I like the second image better, it jus seems more professional. The first image is still beyond my skill level, but in comparison it seems amateur. Also, I really like the menu you made! Looks like the game is coming together, congrats!

Sadly I didn't make the menu. I wish I had that kind of skill!

Lol, at some point I think every major project uses something that someone else made.

Thanks ^^ I'm glad this game has so far had a positive reaction, I just hope I meet peoples expectations!

After much debating I've decided to stick with Hanzo's trees, since they have a more realistic feel to them. Right I've spent far to long on this forest, time to actually get to work on the story!

Are your light effects something that is possible by default with RMVXAce or no?

Nope, not without scripts anyway. For this project I'm using Victor sant's lighting script and enhancing the glow in gimp, which is an image editing program. It can be a bit daunting to do your own light effects at first but it's quite simple once you get the hang of it.

Sounds like something I should look into.  Thank you for the information.

EDIT: Based on your success with it, I'm attempting to use Khas' script in my own game and I'm really impressed with it.  Also looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Really like some of the lighting in that forest, the interior there isn't quite to my liking but I can see it fitting in nicely with other things. Congrats on that, I'd like to see more.

Can I ask what you don't like about the interiors? ^_^

I've been trying something new today. I've been working on the shadows cast by the trees.

That looks pretty good! That's actually one thing that really bothers me in games. The sun is not directly above you and yet there are no shadows. I've gotten used to completely overlooking that, but this image kind of brought that back to mind.

I've been thinking about the little things in games, such as shadows, clutter in houses, etc. It's surprising what little things you notice while playing. To me it shows the creator put a lot of effort in creating his game world.

This (shadows cast by the environment) is also something that's probably only possible if you're using parallax mapping (I'm still using pathetic tile mapping, cause I'm lame) It's looking good. Quite good indeed.

I did the shadows via parallax. Though it may be possible to edit it so you can use it in a tileset. But tile mappings not a bad thing, have you played Enelysion and Tristian lady of the Lion? The creator of those games uses only tile mapping and her maps are beautiful.

I agree. I can't describe it either lol.
