Some screenshots from my project 'Return of the Lost'

Recommended Posts

It does show that the creator put forth the effort and went the extra mile for that immersion factor. I've noticed that people complain about certain games feeling 'empty' or 'lackluster' but they can't explain why. When I look at the games they're talking about I notice that it is not because of gameplay or graphics or the physics engine. It is simply a failure of immersion because the environments lack those 'unnecessary' items in them. The 'unnecessary' items actually are necessary if you want your game to be immersive. Bethesda understands this concept well (Fallout, Elder Scrolls, blah blah blah).

The walls and door are By Celianna, I'm pretty sure the roofs are done by  StormriderAngel.

Currently in the early stages of my project. Just wanted some feedback on my maps so I can improve on them in any way. All done in the editor.

Heya Mirage,

slowly I find my way around in the forums and now I found your amazing thread :)

I don't know if you know me, however Ive seen your first pic in the screenshit discussion thread and already found it amazing (sent it to a friend to encourage him for rpgm)! Needlessly to say the other pictures also look beautiful and Im looking forward to seeing more hehe :P

Best regards,

Ympker

I got it from the rpgmakervx site, which sadly isn't running anymore. It was from Grandmadebs resource list. So you could check her resource list on this site or maybe try her photobucket?

I'm impressed. Very rare that I see a project with decent mapping. It's actually a turn-off for me when I see projects with default RPG Maker resources and bland mapping. Great job on your maps. I'll be interested in playing this when you're done.

Your screenies have had a lot of improvement the first time I see them Mirage. :) Just what a little lighting and shading can do to make these exquisite! ^^

and you already know what I'm going to say about the village mapping of course... xD

Thanks guys ^-^. I owe a lot to the other members of this site. Without their suggestions I would never have improved.

not sure

if intended

...On another note, the lighting effects are very well done. Was curious though, on the outside maps, do the sun rays lock to the screen and follow you, or are they static?

Haha didn't notice that. Maybe Ympker's trying to tell us something?

The light rays atm do follow, but I am working on (when I find the time) On sun rays that fit each map so they won't have to follow the player. Sadly I'm not very good at creating sun rays yet. -_-'

I take it your both referring to the medieval buildings? They are pretty awesome, definately worth the money. It's not too pricy either, I managed to get it for a discount since I have a member+ account over at rpgmakerweb. Plus it helps that the exchange rate between doller and pound is really low for us brits so I ended up paying less then £5 :P

Been working on an abandoned temple. It was actually really hard doing shadows for this map. Just can't seem to get it right....

This one is with a shadow overlay.

This one seems more natural to me. But it doesn't hurt to get more opinions.

I like the 2nd one, it dose not hurt my eyes as much and gives it more of a dark and mysterious vibe, why the top one gives it a nature temple vibe, of course my opinions are not as valid as most :)

The 2nd one contrasts better I think. It makes the room dark, and still visible. The first is slightly to green and is a little sore on the eyes :)

That's my opinion anyway :P

I really like these, the Tavern is by far my favourite.

Just curious though, in that first cave picture.. why is that small cluster of plants that is in a dark area quite bright? Is it a special glowing plant, or just hasn't been dimmed like the rest?

For some reason the plant stayed the same even with the screen tinted and shadows added. But since it's a world that's filled with magic lets just say it's a magic plant. :P
