Engine: VX ACE

Genre: Fantasy

Summary: An rpg game based of a D&D campaign my Fiancè ran. So expect to see some D&D elements.

It's quite long campaign and still ongoing... So it's highly likely the game will be split into episodes. At the moment there will be two, perhaps three.

qmcDvwZ.png

A long time ago a great war raged amongst the Elves and other races of the Flatlands. After heavy losses on both sides the Elves eventually lost and were banished to the harsh Sand wastes.

Now over 1000 years have passed. The Elves are almost forgotten from the peoples minds. A young spy who goes by the alias Mirage finds herself drawn into a conflict between the self anointed King of the Flatlands and a ragtag group of adventurers who are determined to thwart him at every turn, making wild claims that the King is raising an undead army for unknown reasons.

Mirage soon realizes that the Undead army is only a small portion of Henrik's plans.

Meanwhile there are other rumors of unrest coming from the Sand wastes....

Episode 1 characters.

WwfAwSA.png

Mirage ~ Age: 19

Class: Sorcerer

Weapon: Staffs/Tomes

A member of the infamous black hand, Mirage lacks the temperament of an assassin, but her unique ability of changing her appearance at will was useful as a spy. She is generally friendly to everyone she meets, though she can be too trusting at times which sometimes leads to her being taken advantage of.
She has never developed a taste for fighting and would much rather use diplomacy to handle situations. That's not to say she's a pushover however, if push comes to shove she will fight without hesitation.

In battle she is able to cast very powerful spells, she can also utilize her demon familar; Kelgarn to inflict negative states upon enemies. However her defense leaves much to be desired, she cannot last long against a phsyical onslaught.

yxvmKKt.png

Haakon ~ Age: 27

Class: Battle Cleric

Weapon: Maces/ Spears

Having lived in the mountains since childhood Haakon has come to know the mountains like the back of his hand. He uses his knowledge to help guide travelers and merchants up and down the mountain safely.
One day he was escorting a priest of the icy Goddess Auril. The priest left him a holy symbol of Auril's as payment. Not long after Hakon got caught in an unnatural blizzard. As a last resort he prayed to Auril and the blizzard soon lifted.
He became a true believer after that and dedicated his life in service to the Goddess.

Being a cleric Haakon is able to heal his allies. He also has a few radiant spells at his disposal making him very effective against undead. He is pretty strong stat wise, having a good defense as well as a decent magic stat. He is however the slowest character and tends to act last in battles.

oOnUVg1.png

Taramis ~ Age: 23

Class: Druidic Ranger

Weapon: Bow/ Daggers

Having an unusual affinity with animals, with even the most savage beast becoming calm in her presence, Taramis found her calling in life was to care for animals. She became employed by a local Lord to care for his horses, well known for being some of the finest horses in the land.
Unfortunately the household succumbed to the plague, with her employers dead and the other servants fearing her for a witch Taramis left and soon found a local druidic cult dedicated to the nature Goddess Ehlonna. Taramis felt at home for the first time in her life and vowed to obey only the benevolent laws of nature from then on.

In battle Taramis is the quickest, usually acting first. Due to her training as both a ranger and a druid she has a good mix of phsyical attacks and druidic spells. However her defenses are quite low.

USsEniQ.png

Arnuld ~ Age: 31

Class: Barbarian

Weapons: Greatswords/ Axes/ Clubs/ Tables/ People/ Whatever he can get his hand on.

Having grown up in a Barbarian tribe, Arnuld is no stranger to fighting (or drinking). A surprisingly intelligent man, unfortunately he lacks patience and prefers to tackle problems head on......literally.
He wanders the world looking for worthy opponents to fight. Though he spends more time drinking in taverns then any actual wandering.

In battle Arnuld is best described as a powerhouse. He is the strongest of the four main characters and can take quite a beating too. Though he cannot withstand magic attacks for very long.

This is actually an interesting project. Going to follow this updates.

If you don't mind, may I ask what kind of battle system do you use?

Nice, I think you are a good mapper. I hope it'll release soon...

@Theo: If I'm not wrong then he/she uses Symphony Battle. Maybe. :P

At the moment just the default battle system with some of Yanfly's add ons. Currently testing Yami's battle symphony though :)

Nothing to comment on the screenshots as i've done it before, but i can do with the rest. The story... well, it is not a story itself, it's like an introduction to what is the game, so it's ok. Let's wait to see the REAL story of this game, but with this i can have an idea. The characters are quite original, i like them. Mirage seems cool, i always liked the "ilusion" type of character, you know, the tricker. The last one is just awesome! hahaha somewhat like the main character of my game, who is an alcoholic guy. But now, those features really sounds sweet. Specially the "equip skill" and "skill checks", and also the "no mana" feature (i don't like mana neither, i also don't use it in my game, TP ftw) so i'm hoping to see the battle system in action! it'll rock surely. One thing i can see is that Mirage has 25HP, so i don't think a skill would do more than 50 damage xD

Overall: sweet. Let's wait for the demo~~

If you decide to use symphony and need help with symphony tags, PM me. I can try to explain them from what I remember!

Good looking project! I like the skill checks :)

I'll keep that in mind thanks :)

I'm thinking of maybe bringing out a couple of demos before the full game each one with a different battle system. See what people prefer. I know the default battle system isn't super popular but I think a battle system needs to fit in with the game sooo we'll wait and see :)

You're not the only one who dislike mana feature. I also prefer use TP. High five!

If you can wait a little bit longer, I could translate my battle system to your language

Arnuld is a bit of a favorite. He was played by my friend who always likes to play alcoholic characters for some reason lol. It was quite funny while we were playing, he always came up with some really complex plans, they failed miserably pretty much from the start so then he either headbutted it or set it on fire. Sometimes both.

There was always a running joke that whenever the guy couldn't play D&D his character would just pass out drunk (which happened quite a lot!) In fact Mirage first met him when he was captured by some bounty hunters because he passed out drunk after challenging a whole village to a drinking competition (And won) And his other companions just left him there to catch up with them later   It's gonna be a lot of fun putting some of his antics in the game.

High five! ~~ I think Mana is just too repetitive and overused, it is: "use your skills until your MP reaches 0 then spam attacks or use an mp potion" instead, the TP allows more tactical decision especially when using TP Manager from Yanfly.

You will translate your battle system to Spanish? o.o

I'm sure it'll do! i'm waiting for that demo so i can play with Arnuld, maybe i can learn something from him and even adapt some traits to Darrell (no copying, just inspiration)

There's not even a TP system in game. You basically have three types of attack. At will attacks have no limits but are quite weak.

Encounter attacks are more powerful but you only use them once per fight. (Some encounter's you can use a couple more times.) And daily's, which are very powerful but once you use them they won't become available again until you rest at an inn (or at certain story points) It's best to save them for hard fights or bosses.

Arnuld's quite a simple character really. His creator isn't into role playing as much as us so Arnuld wasn't developed as much. But I don't think that's a bad thing in his case. He's a barbarian who lives to fight and to drink. His back up plans are always headbutt it and or set it on fire and despite his shortcomings he's very honorable. He's a simple character but that suits him. I don't think every character needs to have a complex back-story or massive development, sometimes people really can be simple.

Specially when he is a secondary character (because he is, right?)

Well, Darrell is just an alcoholic guy because of his past. He grew up on Fausto's region, a place where the moral and valors are really wicked. His dad was an alcoholic as well an his mother was a whore. He grew up by his own with nothing good surrounding him (drunk people, drugs, assasination, prostitution and many more twisted stuff that i can't even say here) but he always have been an intelligent man, just like everyone on Fausto (People on that region tend to be very clever, just that the way they see the world and humans is pretty different of how we do). His dad in a drunken rage tried to kill Darrell's mother, then the young Darrell withdrawn his father's sword and killed him. His mother then went crazy and tried to kill Darrell, but he defended himself and killed her as well. Because that occured in Fausto, no one cared about it. He then became an assasin and gained his own reputation but soon left Fausto to travel the world without a reason.

Oh well, i rambled too much i guess. Just sharing some of my story as you did :P Btw, i also was a roleplayer but a literary one (written roleplaying)

That sounds cool, leaves a lot of room for character development as well. Will there be a demo in the near future? I'd like to give it a try. :P

Yeah Arnuld's a secondary character. He's a great side character but a bit too simple as a main.

A demo is getting closer faster than i expected. It will be a short one (10-30 minutes according the player even more if you grind and explore everything) the only deal is the translation but i have someone that will help me with it.

I'll keep an eye out for it ^_^

On a side note, I've decided to release the game in episodes after all, since I'm worried that the game size would be too large otherwise. But that works out quite nicely story wise really, because a few years will pass between episode 1 and 2.

At the moment there will be 3 episodes. Can't say for certain how long each will be. Since the D&D campaign is still ongoing I am worried the game will catch up story wise, but if it does I'll just find a good point to end it. After all the D&D game could go on for years.

I've been trying different battle systems with little success. I think there's a compatibility issue or something. But one that does work is Yanfly's visual battlers. It's not quite what I wanted but it'll serve. So here's the potential battle system for Return of the Lost.

Pretty nice. I personally don't really care about what is the battle system is. As long as it well balanced. Oh, well, at least not that default battle system. Btw, you should put the first actor in the front. It looks weird in my view.

I just put the script in there and randomly messed with positions to see what it's like lol Their all better aligned now.

I'm trying to use Yami's battle symphony but I'm having a problem that when the actors die in battle they just keep walking. :/ I'm currently putting in scripts one by one to see if that's the reason.

I'm not a great spriter, or an artist any past attempts have ended in failure, but I've been working on editing Mirage's sprites and I'm quite pleased with the results. Nothing amazing but for me I think it's quite good. Just goes to show perseverance is key.

LIqSKoX.png

As you can see I have a couple of down sprites, a closed eyes one for when she's sad or in deep thought. A sideways glance and lastly a rather nonchalant stance.

Right now onto the other playable characters......
