In need of some feedback

Recommended Posts

Hello!
So, i started making some maps for my first project in RPG Maker, and if there is something i learned about game design is that the earlier you get feedback, the better.
At the moment there is only 2 maps done, i tried to put as much detail as i could with the resources i have (i'm using some RTP stuff, yes, i can't draw pixel art stuff).

I want to know if the maps look interesting, empty, overcrowded with detail and NPCs...
I will post some images, from the editor and in-game so you can see the effects, but of course you won't be able to see the moving cars and the sound effects i added (for some reason the compressed game installer is 130mb).
Any tips and critiques are welcome.

you're atleast 20 times better with placement of things than most of the people starting out
I see you got the futuristic and modern tiles seem to be working them in the city vibe pretty well

I'd just hope that npcs don't croud warlking area too much

but pretty pro aethetics

you should make it so you can get run over by cars

if they touch you driving by

just saying

Oh ("o.o) That's a little depressing.

Anyway, @OP, really good for starting out! It's nice to see someone who makes their first maps with custom stuff and not RTP--not to diss RTP, of course. The streets do look pretty crowded, especially in that map with the red car--I doubt that red car will be able to get anywhere quickly. :) Since all the maps appear to be at night, it makes sense they would be dark, and I like how you handled the light effects. ^-^

As they said, you are a good mapper. Most people do a big map but empty, another make a small map but overcrowed. The distribution of the space on your maps is very good :D

And, ¿what tilesets are you using? I am very interested in the one of the city XD

Should be the Futuristic/Modern resources DLC, but maybe he has something else special!

Yes, it is the resource DLC plus some other resources made by the community (like the robots, the huge Mech and the modern NPC's).

Also, when i meant moving cars i wasn't talking about those ground vehicles.

There is some flying cars that move around from time to time and produce a "highspeed passby" sound, i also put a "female-robot voice-over" that speaks some information about the city ("Avoid sector 3, there is a block in the road, the Council works for YOU!" and that kind of stuff).

And the idea of getting run over by cars is kinda dark...

As i said, i would like to post the compressed game so you could play, but its about 130mb (looks like 95% of that is music O_O, maybe changing the format would help?I will look into that).

Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT:

Yay!I changed the format of the audio files to mp3 and now its like 40mb.Here is the link for the download so you can see the map in action.

OMG, its a verygood map. I really feel like in the future XD

I found two minor problems.

1) I see some tearing/lag when a flying car passes over you.

2) When you change the map (for example, when you go from the bar to the street) the lights dont change instantly, it tooks 1 seconds. Idont know if you know what i am saying.

But is a very good map, and I am very interested in the game. If you need to translate the game to Spanish when you finish it i can help you (I am better translating English to Spanish than writing in english XD )

Hmm, i might look into that lag issue, it runs fine for me, but i will try to fix that.

Also, the thing about taking 1 second to change the lights is from the lighting script i'm using (Khas Awesome Light Effects), you have to use a script command to change the lights and you have to set the amount of frames it will take to change, and the minimum is 1 frame, setting it to 0 means it won't change at all.I'm trying to put a fadeout effect during the change and then a fadein so you won't notice the change.

Thanks for the feedback, and who knows?Maybe i can make a spanish version with your help :D

EDIT:

I have done some testing, i made the fadeout/fadein for the light transition work, about the lag, it seems like its the lighting engine that is doing that when you move around fast and the game screen refreshes, so it causes a small slowdown and then returns to a normal framerate.
