I like the idea here, its a nice twist on passing down legendary weaponry as heirlooms, and there's something very Don Quixote about the horses' insistence on a chivalric existence. The only problem is the way the Knight dies. Old age? But his horse outlives him? Its not a big deal I guess, there's probly some degree of magic or whathaveyou in this world to explain it. It just seems like it might be more logical, and also establish how amoral the son is, if you have the boy kill his father for this legendary gear.

My $0.02.

@Theo, those graphics are great, the sprite is exquisite. Are you using something other than photoshop/gimp by any chance?

I dont have a character for you guys to critique I'm afraid 'cause I have no real project

Thank you xD

I use PaintTool SAI for all image editing / creating related include doing pixel. I don't have photoshop, and I don't know how to use it either. I use gimp only for grid based editing (such as editing iconset) since SAI doesn't support grid.

Thank to you for this kind feedback, Kaust. The reference to Cervantes wasn't on purpose, but I like the sound of it! :D

In fact, the knight Eviradnus is a character from the Legend of Ages, by Victor Hugo. He is really old but still an errand knight (and a really good one). So in my mind, Eviradnus carried out his duty until he died, and as he was really good at what it did, he died of oldness, and not by the hand of an enemy. (You may think about Cohen the Barabarian, here. ;) ) Now, there's the obvious lifespan issue: horses don't usually outlive their owners, especially war horses like destriers. This is why the main character is the last destrier of Eviradnus. He had many horses before this one, among which a lot died on the field of battle.

I plan to give four sidekick to this main character, and this is what the destrier will tell to the first of them when he's asked about his name:

"Old Eviradnus didn't gave me a name. A real knight doesn't name his mount to not be attached to it, when it dies.

- ...

- You know, he was the best master I ever had. He was good to me. Good to anyone. Only the scoundrels feared him. I loved him."

Besides, I don't think the destrier would ever let the son ride him if he killed his father.

Does that sound more logical to you?

This

He had many horses before this one, among which a lot died on the field of battle.

makes a lot of sense. I guess I just assumed they were attached from surviving a lot together.

Besides, I don't think the destrier would ever let the son ride him if he killed his father.

But the son doesn't ride the horse, right? A scarecrow does?

Besides, I was just suggesting another motive for the horse wanting to leave (as he's kind of duty-bound to that son; both out of respect for the father but also because a bad master is still a master. Feudalism is not a meritocracy, in fact its probably the most restricted social model when it comes to social mobility).

Anyways, keep me updated with this game, it sounds like something I'd probably enjoy playing.

I'm seeing some neat ideas here. I think I'll jump in on this.

Juniper "June" Summers

z9Yc15t.png

wB9dwDL.png

Weapon Choice: Anything she can pretend to be a staff.

Character Type: Cute, energetic, and positive, but reckless and naive. If this is an archetype, I don't know what it's called. ; 3;

RPG Class: Fast and powerful magic sweeper with decent party support options. So basically Paula, from Earthbound.

June is the only daughter of a wealthy family. Hers is a sheltered life, so her understanding of the world is somewhat limited. She has a love for adventure, and wants to explore the world for herself.

Name: Agatha "Aggie" Asimov

Sprite

Ags.png

(The sprite also serves as the "faceset"; I can't draw and I can't find faces to match all my characters in a consistent style.  Using the generator is not an option.)

Weapon Choice: As a sorceress, she can blow stuff up with her mind.  She sees no reason to carry conventional weapons.

Character Type: Eccentric intellectual

Special Abilities and Traits: Magic (mostly attack and offensive support spells, with some defensive ones.)

RPG Class: Sorceress

Description: Aggie is a young, wandering sorceress who makes ends meet as an adventurer for hire.  She's kind-hearted and usually affable, but is also short tempered, conceited and has poor impulse control. She is spurred on her long, aimless journey by an insatiable curiosity and desire to learn as much as she can to improve her abilities.  She has a meddlesome nature and strong morals, and hates nothing more than the abuse of magic.  When she catches wind of a man known only as the Peddler selling dangerous artifacts to ordinary people, she sets out to hunt him down and give him a piece of her mind (and a stiff beating if he's been causing all this havoc deliberately).

Quite interesting. It seems you guys have developed your characters well...

And allow me to introduce my character, which is the main character of previous Wandering Brawler.

Behold, Vent McGraves the Brewmaster of Corona.

Face (thanks to Lazcht to provide faceset of this fellow):

qViUuAj.png

Sprite (in-battle):

S7I2OdF.gif lC7UvWR.gif

Sprite (unused)

zgpQU.png

Concept Art:

8PUjHiw.jpg

Weapon of Choice: Barehanded. But in some cases, Staff of Season.

Character Type: Humorous, humble wanderer with nimble feet and strong against any kind of ales. | Durable fighter with ability to counter attack as element of surprise and relies to kicking moves

Special Abilities and Traits: Drunken Brawler (fighting while drunk), resistance to unbalance (but not stuns), can summon Elementals to merge with himself.

RPG Class: Warrior/Pilgrim

Description: The wanderer of secretive Corona village and always carrying his brews even into battle, Vent is a humble fellow and values ale above all else. He set a journey to seek exotic ingredients to be mixed with his brews, creating unique concoctions that kicks even the strongest man into drunken stupor just in one sip.

He created his own fighting style years after he learned the eccentric martial arts of the Far East, and developed further from the Spirit he summoned from his brews. Most people will question his everdrunk face, but they won't complaint about it at all because Vent is a kind and hearty fellow and shares his brews to people often.

Description from Eremidia: Dungeon!

As tales were told tavern by tavern, between the tall glasses of booze, a tale of this famous fighter often heard.

Meet the Brewmaster of Westerland, also known as the Drunken Hustler by fellows in some taverns. Vent, as he likes everyone to called him, is a kind and hearty traveler yet has stoic and strong nature behind his grumpy, drunken face that sometimes smiling to people as he shares some of his eccentric brews he made.

Taught by the martial artist of Far East, his talent of martial arts is matched by a few, moreover when he attained his own martial art style that he left it unnamed.
In a fight, he has great endurance to receive damages as well as his endurance against kegs of brews. This fellow of Corona loves to drink that he often share it to friends and foes alike. Also, his developed, unique fighting stance often underestimated by his enemies. He hides cleverness behind his folly face, proven by his tricks to fooling a certain treasure hunter girl often resulting in success and his efforts rewarded by lots of booze in his stock.
A question that was never answered is how he can attain the power of the mighty spirits, an ancient art of long lost martial arts which made him able to save the shrunken realm of Mediterania along with his companions...

Wow!  So many of you have such interesting characters here.

I can't draw to save my life and I don't think I'll be paying for sprite work for a non-commercial game, so I'm stuck using RTP and edits.

Kudos!

So thought I'd share the main characters of my two current projects with you all.

First off is my life's work of a character, Elrica Wyndus, and she's the first character you play as in The Medallia Chronicles:  The Dragon Knight.

Elrica_zps3f3e5ed9.pngElrica_zpsca72300d.png

She's 18, her starting job class is Lancer, and she's the daughter of Kain Wyndus and Jade Argus, who are for intents and purposes, the main characters of game one of three.  Elrica is part dragon, part human and her blue hair is the symbol of inheritance of the Dragume Gene.  She's a wild, excitable lady with a thirst for adventure and she has quite the mouth on her too.

My second project is a bit more personal and very psychological, and deals with exploration of the mind and conquering fears.

Storm_zps2d4c8437.pngStorm_zps1c963490.png

This is my protagonist, Storm, and he is, for intents, me.  It's a modern RPG and he has a very playful, punny personality.

Name: Alek

Face: see downloads, not dealing with image hosting

Sprite: ^

Graphics subject to change

Character type: Fast dex fighter

Class: Fencer

Abilities and traits: Average strength and toughness, bur very fast and has very high accuracy and evasion. Uses multiple weak attacks, counters and evasion.

Small bio:

Alek lives in a mining town in the mountains. He craves adventure, but nothing exciting ever happens there, when he is awake. Alek dislikes mining, not only is he a scrawny weakling, it is boring monotonous work, though he likes exploring the old mines and mountains where he has found some ancient tablets. He studies fencing from a local bard, and still lives with his parents. A notable sleeper, Alek has slept through a recent avalanche and almost every other exciting event in town. Alek's father is also the leader of the local mining guild and is a veteran of the previous war. He moved to the most secluded town in the country to keep his family safe from war and now wants to live a peaceful life. Alek's dad (name undecided ATM), lets Alek chose his own path in life knowing he will find a place eventually.

My main character from The Plague.

This first one is a mack edit of the Evil-4 sprite from the RTP of VX Ace done by Cocodoco

post-38592-0-19706800-1404351713_thumb.png

Also one I'm using for a flashback that shows her when she's younger. Just something I threw together in Game Character Hub.

post-38592-0-82075400-1404351702_thumb.png

Nickname: The Butcher of Fogbarrow.

The half-giant first child of the human queen, Rowen, on the continent of Zelith. The result of an affair between the queen, and the Galrithin (otherwise known as giants) king, Jolin II.

I would give some more back story, but I'm writing this at 10PM, so it would probably be incoherent. I'll just list her roles in the story/combat of the game.

Story Role: Protagonist.

Class: Thunder Titan.

Combat Role: (Early Half of Game) Tank/Status Effects, (Later Half of the Game) Tank/Status Effects/Magical Damage Dealer.

Attack Element: Thunder.

Weapons: (default)War hammers, (story requirements met) Greatswords.

Armors: Massive Armor.

Interesting topic, everyone has amazing characters :o

Still kinda new here but might as well post something.

This is my main character, Liam, from my current project. He is indeed myself. The faceset is just a placeholder. Will probably edit the sprite at some point too, could do with glasses. The game basically involves my character, and several friends being pulled from our normal world into an alternate fantasy world through a certain event. Usual huge rpg adventure from there. Actual game is more complex, but I'm getting off topic :P

1.png

Name : Liam
Weapon: Daggers
Class: Nothing specific. (Game focuses more on individual abilities than generic classes)
Personality: Immature, very rarely takes anything seriously, enjoys teasing his friends. However, despite his carefree attitude he will stand up for his allies and do what's right if necessary. Most of the time. As long as it doesn't require effort.
