dinhbat3 57 Posted July 11, 2014 (edited) Hello RMVXA community. I have been so busy lately that I have not been able to contribute much as of late. Now that some of my work has died down, I have returned to some maps that I was working on before my break and hoping to get some feed back. These are my first attempts at parallax mapping. I am still trying to figure out a lot of things about shadows and lighting layers and such... so any feedback would be welcome. Without further ado: Town Square Inn/Restaurant (I was trying something new by showing exterior details instead of just a black background... it caused some scaling inaccuracies... thoughts?) Market Place Fishing Pond (this one is actually broken up into 6 different maps in game) Farmer's Mill Forrest Grounds (I realized after making it that it is HUGE... I will see if it gets laggy once the events are added... if so I will definitely scale down or break it up) Thanks in advance to anyone who took time to look at my work and give any feedback so I can keep improving =D ~ Dinhbat Oops forgot credits to these WONDERFUL people and their great talents: CREDITS: Celianna Lunarea PandaMaru Ayene Mack Edited July 12, 2014 by dinhbat3
+ EraYachi 180 Posted July 11, 2014 *applauds* Bravo, bravo! Very smooth, crisp, and well-sized for each map. Looks like you did a great job sticking to the grid system while keeping it artistically intriguing. For the maps of the town and forest, you may want to consider adding some variety in vegetation and decoration. In the forest, for example, it's so uniform, easy to get lost and turned around. Real forests are a variety of colours and shapes/sizes. You could change your brush size and sharpen the image to make larger trees, or take sections of the trees and change their colouring a bit. Add some long grass here and there, a flower patch, some gravel or random dirt here and there....all depends on how much effort you're willing to put in and now many brain cells you'd like to sacrifice to the Crazy For CoCo Puffs deities. merdouille 21 Posted July 11, 2014 Wow! These are amazing! With that title I was expecting much, but these screenshot really blew me away! Keep up with the good work! I've never seen that concept shown in your inn map, and I have to admit it's quite interesting! Please tell me when your projet is done/a demo is ready. I wanna play it just because of the graphics
dinhbat3 57 Posted July 11, 2014 Thanks for the kind words and feed back so far =D @EraYachi - Yeah, after reading your comment, I noticed how bare some of the flooring was in those 2 maps. I will definitely update the town map with some more details. As for the forest, alot of it was copy-pasted since I got so tired of mapping it... That is when I realized the map was WAY TOO HUGE. haha. I will work on updates soon! @merdouille - Thanks for the encouraging words! I will likely post a game dev topic within the next month or so =D It will be a lighthearted non battling adventure.
+ Brackev 66 Posted July 11, 2014 @Dinhbat3 You are going a great job at mapping. They are looking good as-is. The inn problem with the outside not scaling right may require you to scale down the objects, like the bench, and scale up the objects, like windows and trees. Since you are parallaxing already, it shouldn't be an issue. I hope you made good use of the layers... As for the forest, consider sight variations to the contrast or hue of some of the trees. It's sutle but effective, and you don't need to redraw them.
dinhbat3 57 Posted July 12, 2014 I am still working on the forest to add some details. In the mean time I changed the windows and bench on the restaurant scene as suggested by Brackev, thanks for the tip! (and added some transparency to the windows since they were so big) Image updated on OP
