Onomotopoeia 12 Posted July 26, 2014 (edited) With the file selected in the file view but not opened, I would press Alt+Enter and then check the file attributes, and also check the permissions set on the file, the parent folder, its parent's folder, et cetera. Probably don't need to delete usernames from the list of permissions, though if your username/account indicates the right to delete the item is not on, you can turn it on. Also, if it's a matter of wanting to delete the file before replace, you might try a small utility like Unlocker to terminate open file-system handles to the locked file; then try it. Though I cannot guarantee it'll work for sure; that's just something I'd try. Edit: Your status update about "Computer freezing for two minutes" probably also means your computer is having some user-permissions fail when executing the program; I would also check with the program shortcut and attempt to set it to "launch as administrator", if you know where to find that... That said, any other problems running things? I've been my family's "tech guy" for so long, I tend to know a little about everything. What is the problem trying to run on your desktop? Tandinos 0 Posted July 26, 2014 Yeh i know about running as admin etc have checked links shortcuts, even re installed steam, nothing has changed on my desktop from when i used to run RPG maker VX ace other than it updating through steam and a few more games added to the computer. but seeming it works on my laptop i shall just use this as i can use it just for projects. but with the files i cant look at etc im not to sure whats going on there, Under documents i can not view any of the default files that come with the program, only ones i have imported my self, even with looking at file size of the folder "system" it is only the size of my custom game over screen png, unless that data is held under steam apps in which case i cant seem to unzip or view as it says the folder is empty (all my permissions are set to admin and full access only one log in on this pc) could it be that it was being saved to steam cloud, and i deleted that (as was full) so i could make more to the game ? but i should still be able to view all files within my project? Onomotopoeia 12 Posted July 26, 2014 For that, I am at a loss to understand what has happened. But I'm curious if part of the issue is where the project and its data are located. My experience in the full version of VX Ace is quite recent; before this, I was using the Ace Lite to dawdle away my time tinkering. Under "My Documents" folder I had the "RPGVXAce" folder, where my project(s) were created. After installing through Steam, under "My Documents" folder I now had a "Steam Cloud\%steamname%\RPG Maker VX Ace" folder -- but it's currently empty, because I've got everything under the former path used by the Lite version (I don't use Steam Cloud -- yet). It doesn't seem to drastically affect anything in the editor, because I'm still able to load a project throught the project browser. If the project location is part of the issue, you could try creating a separate "RPG Maker" folder elsewhere, manually copying a test project to that location, and trying to browse to it and open it. Could a copy/move of the project be a possible solution? Idunno; just thinking a bit.
Tandinos 0 Posted July 26, 2014 (edited) yeh my steam cloud is currently empty , problem is trying to view the files under Documents > RPGVXAce>Project2>Graphics (where all the content in game should be located) but with this all i can view are files i have imported my self (custom sprites, tile sets etc) Can not view graphics and files that came with the program. As for trying to go SteamApps > Common > RPGVXAce > Projects all projects are zipped when i unzip my current one i get "! C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RPGVXAce\Projects\project1.zip: Unexpected end of archive" Nothing is set to read only have admin rights on everything, I can unzip my zipped projects that i am not using atm, but they have no content in them that i can see, just shows folders wont show content, Im using Winrar and default Windows wizard. It isn't really a big deal for now but could turn into one as i am unable to edit or view any default files it seems. Oh and yeh i tried copying content and moving it to a different location and still unable to view any default in file explorer Edited July 26, 2014 by Tandinos
Onomotopoeia 12 Posted July 26, 2014 Um, okay, now I think I understand; but the "default files", that is, those from the RTP, would not be bundled up in a zip anyway. You were trying to find the file(s) in the Projects subfolder? Eh, no, I wouldn't look there.... I can find the default tileset through where I installed the RTP data, before installing the VX Ace Lite edition of the editor. I just double-checked; the full path on my PC to the default tileset is thus: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RPGVXAce\rtp\Graphics\System\IconSet.png Note that where my example path diverges from the one you gave; it's all within the "rtp" subfolder of the "RPGVXAce" folder. I see the file, and I have user-rights to edit or delete it, if so desired. I have no need to replace my icon set at this point in time; but I'm sure that I could, just by copying over a tileset onto that file name. Hope this helps you. Eh, I've been there before, looking in the wrong path....
