Some feedback and maybe a little help!

Recommended Posts

 Hopefully the link works!

So I have these pictures which I am happy with the first 3 overall. The 4th image is supposed to be an oasis town, and it feels real lacking to me. I have yet to put people in the towns yet and some doors which aren't there are evented doors so they don't display on screenshots. The last 4 images are pretty bad and I'm not sure if they can recover without re-doing them. What are your opinions the maps? How can I improve/fix them or am I better off re-doing some of them?

Hopefully I am allowed to post something like this here, but I also have a request for someone good at mapping to re-do the last 4 dungeons Basically one is an oasis/mountain dungeon and the other 3 are 1 big dungeon which is in a mining cave with lots of foliage (early maps, didn't do good at all at this. These versions are a lot better than their original versions). Of course, credit will be given.

I've heard this from a couple people now.  I have a ton of other maps which are really good (imo), but these just didn't feel right. Maybe I just have too high of standards?

Imo, i think it would look nice if you maybe played with the elevation a bit on certain maps. : ) Like have some hilly/ more elevated areas/paths, and then maybe have the walls be of varied heights in some spots.

I think it also might look nice if the water wasn't as perfectly square/rectangular, so maybe there can b some stray tiles around the edges to create a "rounder" look... : )

Finally, maybe you can find a way to creatively add some more details in some places. Like having more terrain/grass/dirt types in some spots, using two different wall types for buildings, having uneven/"lumpy" houses, water falling down walls, vines on walls, mixing wall terrains, having some houses look like apartments or be larger than others, more houses, some houses with backyards/gardens/2nd floor that's uneven/"lumpy", "dump-like" areas, vehicle-parking gravel-like areas, etc.

Sorry if i'm making it seem like your maps need all this stuff or something. But im just hoping in listing so many things, you will find something/some things that will give you some ideas.. ('^' ) i looked at all ur maps btw.

Hm... that definitely gives me some ideas now! Thanks for looking at them! Don't worry about offending me with suggestions. I posted these maps to get criticism! If i couldn't handle it I wouldn't have posted  :)

Well if your up for it why not try using parallax mapping to add detail to your rtp maps.

I may look into that, but I'm kind of at the point where I have to force myself to continue to make parts of my game. I think I may be better off fixing up what I currently have, but who knows, maybe I'll find it real fun and want to continue!
