Oh, this thread is lovely! :wub:  I've been so, so anxious to play Touhou Tales~! I'm excited to see it's coming along so beautifully. You are a graphical genius; everything fits together in such a signature way~ I love it! The magic card system and gems sound fun; are these aspects of Touhou, or did you make them up for the game? 

 

Really great job here, and I'm looking forward to the release! (Tyt though, as it's important to polish and shine until you're comfy with it. :) ) 

 

Awww thank you!~ :3 The Spell cards are Touhou related, but the jewels are my idea. I kind of got tired of the weapon, armor with stats kind-of cliché, plus in Touhou, each character has their own unique style; as well as their own weapon and clothing, so to implement something like that wouldn't make sense if you think about it. lol Anyway, I'm happy that you have taken an interest in it Allusion, I'll keep you and everyone else updated. :3

Current update status: Here's a little video teaser of the overall project itself! This is also showing Kotori's Touhou Sprites in action!

Whatever is in this video, don't expect it to be there permanently! ^_~

Lol! Some of those attacks are just hilarious, cool, and adorable. My favorites so far are Gifts of the Deceased, and especially Wind God Kick. XDDD 

 

The battle back is marvelous, naturally, and the overall mapping is beautiful~ I also really love the battle pic transfer. Kotori-chan's sprites are simply amazing~! So adorable and true to the characters they're modeled after. (๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)

Well, that Reimu combo is absurbly powerful. I guess the damage will around 3000. Cool though

By the way, can you make the loading and saving bar to be more faster? I know it just a fake and I believe not everybody like of being deceived lol

Hehe, Reimu's Wind God Kick is pretty Overpowered. xD I'll tone the damage rate a little bit. I'm also thinking into adding a cool down to these spell cards because you both got me thinking about people just using an MP restoration and then just spamming with that one skill. *writing on a notepad* and trust me, the Wind God Kick is just a beginning of the real Spell Cards, you will be surprised then at Reimu's Fantasy Heaven and other "overpowered" Spell cards. xD

Is it? I have no intention of making it deceiving, just as a visual to be honest. lol I'll make it faster when the demo comes out, but be mindful that there is something I have in mind; more to it than what that loading screen shows. :) Whenever I have scripts like these, I put more to what it can do. Because I'll spoil you a bit that there are a lot, a lot, of secrets in this project. It's Gensokyo after all. :P Actually, I'm the kind of person that set peoples' expectations really low and then I surprised them at the end. xD

lol I actually like them too since they involve crowd control which not a lot of battles do. So I thought about spicing it up a little bit, having these enemies do more than just "Oh I'm hit, I'll move back and go back to my position." It may take a while, but it's nice to have those little details in a sideview battle. :3 and yes, Kotori's Touhou sprites are very detailed and very well done! ^_^ Even with Yuyuko, you can see the little patterns on her Kimono which is pretty hard to do with a small amount of pixels. I'll definitely give her credit for that. Now I'm really fired to see which sprite she'll have next. :3

Nope not yet. xD I'm just waiting for one more building block... Plus I'm finalizing some parallax maps so I'm not quite there yet. :3

As for who is going to be the first one though... let's see... It is either going to be you or Kotori, since both of you provide a benefit let's say for my project. :)

Hehe~ I'll hopefully get it out soon. What I'm planning right now is the approximate demo time to be around 4 hours, and you know how 4 hours will feel like... lol

I might have to delay it a bit because there is a little something I need to try with some features in the project as of now and with me, myself, and I only... It's going to be time consuming... xD

 

So I hope you guys can wait a little longer. :)

Take your time. Even my only 2~3 hours game needed a whole month to make sure there is nothing missing.

Wow this looks amazing! This game had to have taken a ton of effort to get it to this point!

I have to learn parralax mapping for lost blade! Ive watched videos of it but ohhh my goodness it looks like alot of  work.

what software do you use gimp? also where did you get your kaduki enemy monsters? I got some of those but some you used i dont have. they are so hard to find. I bought a character hub software to make characters but it is not kaduki friendly : (

I don't know anything about Touhou, and this is exciting. Everything looks absolutely gorgeous, Minerva!

 

I do have to say, though, that, according to this last video you've posted, combat seems pretty slow. I hope you consider speeding things up at least a little bit. Really, that's the only issue I have so far. Everything else is great.

Well then... shall we start with the answers? ;)  The software I use for parallax mapping is Photoshop, the one and only program that I'll use!! xD

For the Kaduki Sprites... That's a secret that I'll share with you later, trust me, you will never find it anywhere else, less someone has the energy to do so... :3

As for the leaves' effect, that is the work of MOG's Weather EX script, apparently it can also show in battle too so that's a very nice visual you can have there. :)

 

Hehe~ Sorry Ben, but no demo yet as I'm still doing a whole lot of tasks (i.e. parallax, battle tweeking, etc.) I'll let you know (and everyone else) when it is coming out. :)

Thank you so much Spooky! :3 Yeah, I kind of got the feeling someone might point that out eventually... xD I'm actually still working on the balancing of the combat system, mostly on enemy balancing and the challenge in these battles along with keeping in mind of people enjoying it, I will tone down the enemies just a tad bit just so it gets to the point where peple can defeat them with ease. :3 I have a lot to work on but that's the plan as of now, it's still a first project after all so everything I've put up there before is not going to be permanent. :)

In a few days, I'll upload a video of some basic skills of every Touhou character you'll imagine. :3 I'll start with Alice since there are a quite number of Alice-fans out there! xD Keep in touch until then! ^_^

Howdy All! ^_^ It has been a while that I've posted an update or so. Now I did say I was going to keep it all hush hush, but maybe not for now. xD

So here is my current Status quo! I finally finished parallaxing my maps for the demo lol (finally!!) But I'm still a few more steps away from getting it out. :3

Right now, I'm working on more skills of both enemy and characters (since I added more from requests and suggestions). So for now, I'm still balancing the combat system with making it more enjoyable in my opinion... xD 

 

With that said, here is a little video showing a couple (well some) of Sakuya, Marisa, and Alice; as I promised to some people a whole while back. :) Along with some few enemy skills I made as well just to keep the battle a little more interesting. Enjoy! ^_^ I'm not going to spoil a lot as you'll see most of the skills in the demo once I release it!

 

 

Note: I manage to create some little tidbits so far in the battle system...

- An attack skill where an enemy can inflict critical damage always

- More attack variety (many of which you'll see in Lunatic Mode)

Guess that is it as of now... xD

 

Edit: I'll also be updating my first post as it is very very out of date. :3 So many things you can do in under a month... xD

Thank so much! :) The Timestop was a pretty hard thing to do since I had to put the stop effect to all enemies and actors but the damage only affects one target. This one was just a simple stopping effect. The next skills is going to involve more intervals. :3 But Sakuya only has the ability to do so right now.

About the latest video battle.

Some people excited (with a fighting game, anime, or manga) and tell their friends because of this things:

"Ho.. there is a Black Warrior! A Warrior that... They known as.. " ->

"Oh, now he facing the Black Warrior!" ->

"Ow! So that's the Black Warrior skill! Cool..!" ->

"Ah, how clever! How he beat the Black Warrior!" / "Ugh. How strong! He cool when beat the Black Warrior!".

 

I see you have all of it on your game, Minerva-sama ^^ : there is Monster Book script, there are unique enemy skills (Spell Books: call an element, Magatumkurces: teleport), and they have weakness as well (I forget they have element weakness or skill weakness -> I prefer strategic weakness. For example: If Magatumkurces can teleport and maybe with deadly attack, then, how to beat them? Using what skill? Predicting skill? I see on Touhou fighting, Reimu is good on predicting-eh, intuitive- so Reimu must be more useful when faced Magatumkurces - Oh! Or Sakuya ^~^. Well, predicting skill could be: less damage if Magatumkurces attacks her with teleport skill - I guess it doesn't need to coding -I mean, making a sequence with Victor script. But, maybe you have another idea about weakness ^^).

 

Because you have all of it on your game,

then, let me playing your demooooo XD, Minerva-sama! (Get it out! Hehe -of course when you think the time has come.... hoho).

I want to explore your beautiful map, Minerva-sama. Then kick, punch, anything heading! (battle scene) with some skills and using items! -> something that I usually enjoying when playing an RPG game ^^. Ah, and using my favourite Touhou char.............! ^~^

lol All in due time. :3 Strategic weakness eh? That is something hard to do but it is possible to do with Victor's action sequence. I was thinking about it to be honest because Victor had a game script call you can do in the action sequences. There was one particular ones that showed game variables and it kind of ties to what your telling me. :) I like to try it out but it'll take a long time and It'll delay the project even more... For now, I'll think about it in a future update after I release the demo because I kind of delayed it too long, So I'll stick with the skill and element weakness. :)

 

Anywho; as for everyone, I've updated the first post a little bit as of now. I'll also include a little book that I wrote about my project (funny eh? lol) which tells more than what the game can, There are some quotes from the book I've included in the main story to get an idea of what to expect. :)

Okie, so this is an unworthy bumpdate, but just to show that I am all heart hehe~ I will need some people to test out my project before I release the demo, so in other words; beta testers! xD I'm gong to be very busy with my upcoming exams in the late December so I will not have time to test out my own project and show the current bugs once the demo is released. So if you're interested, reply here or let me know via PM if you want to keep it hush-hush... :3 Let's see... I say 4 people should be about it... xD

 

Edit: Oh right there is something I was going to say about Lunatic Mode, so I've decided officially that there will be no new game plus of a kind but instead, you'll unlock Lunatic Mode after you finish the main story. The only difference here is that Lunatic Mode is the sort of Epilogue of the main story but with the hardest difficulty of all time along with hidden secrets you'll see once I start working on it, and as much as I like to stick with the natural Geography of Gensokyo, I'm going to add a few fun tidbits in the Epilogue (such as more characters than the 14 on the first post I've showed) so stay tune! xD If you have any questions of any kind, ask away! ^_^
