The one we're planning for is trickier than I thought. So far I'm still searching for good scripts on target AOE and grid based target acquisition. We found a grand total of uh... 0.

 

Enough about me though, how's your battle system like?

Pretty! I'm glad someone found a use for that beautiful base! I remembered when I first saw it; I was in awe~ And your mapping has made it look divine! I'm so excited to see the full result. 

 

I'm also curious about what kinds of battle systems your project will have! And for the choice system...may the sea be with you. To drown away every, single, last bug/frustration that it may bring. May the sea also not bring you down with them, as they need no help doing that.  :o

Hehe, it's about time we got some fresh scripters in here ;) Whoa, that sounds...quite ambitious! I have to admit, it sounds like a beast system. I must see when it's done. :o

 

My battle system isn't all too special. Ariel is focused more on plot and...politics (kinda ew) rather than whacking each other to death with weapons and umbrellas, though politics can lead to whacking each other to death with weapons and umbrellas. :3 Just ask Caesar, poor chump. The fighting battle system, I'm still debating between sideview and frontal, but I did away with the various Equips and accessories and went the Indrah route: the only stats are power, defense, and evasion; you have a set weapon but can equip personal mods, weapon mods, and stat boosters. I find it a lot easier actually haha. :)

On the subject of Ariel, I spent a day data basing...and I'm still nowhere near done. Ah well haha~ I cut out a couple of characters by combining stories, though it pains me TT_TT

 

Also, if I get the chance I'll post some of the weapon designs. Some of em are pretty beast ;)

And I'm sure your uhmm *cough* are..a decent size! So don't worry! :D you've just gotta believe!!

 

Uhm...as for you Spectre Idk what I want my apple Knight to look like. Uh just wing it. Make sure he has blonde hair though!! :P and red and grey armor that somewhat resembles an apple? idk, just wing it that's what I'd do.

I didn't want to cut characters though TT_TT I've been with them so long...it's like waving goodbye forever. Ah, well. They might show up as cameos or something :)

For those of you wondering who is now vanishing, that would be Tina, Diana, Miarella, Susie, and Louisa. I blended in some stories (just goes to show how little-developed this game actually is, haha!) and some people I just felt didn't play a large enough role to be those main characters. ;_;

 

 

Also, if you do want some help with the eventing to catalyze things, or database stuff, do let me know. I'm always here.

Ooh, thank you for the offer! :) I'm such a doofus with damage formulas, partially why I wasn't entirely too inclined to have a battle system at all. I'll probably be calling on you sometime in the future. ^-^

If it's sweet , juicy, and somewhat fibrous, it is probably an apple.

 

That aside, that does tend to be a problem with multiple main characters. Merging stories and swapping roles makes a mess for early development; I've done the same thing. Having characters of equally high significance leading the story means walking a tightrope with the entire story development as you try to avoid overshadowing. Three or four characters is manageable, but after that it simply is insane to have that many characters take the lead role together. I have a tendency to remove characters and roles for that reason.

 

Either way, I hope you can figure out the cast and keep things going. It sounds like your game is going to be pretty massive in scale.

@ Spectre: I'll totally keep you in mind for moar sprites~ I just did tiles last Re-staff and this one...well lets just say sprites won't be needed.  :D

(I can't remember if we can talk about re-staff stuff or not?)

 

@Tsar girl: Oh no, not the dreaded combine! I feel you there, dear. I've had to combine entire stories before, because they kept eating each other's concepts. In the end, there could be only one. *nods solemnly*

 

But it's good that you're catching such issues now! Imagine if you'd evented the entire thing...or even just a third of it. @_@

 

And cameos are definitely an option! Or maybe some stories can be used as small side quests or something? I don't know how much work that would take though.  :(

Partially why I haven't gotten that far into the game. TT_TT I'm still trying to figure out if I want to keep characters or not. It's just in a political society, there are often so many contenders....narrowing down the PCs to 10 was hard enough. D: Not sure how this whole gig will go down, but in the end, I'll work it out...maybe. ^^ Thanks for the support!

We try to keep Restaff rather hush-hush so we can spring a big surprise on our friends when it comes out ;)

 

Yeah....the dreaded combine is upon me TT^TT True true, if I'd gotten pretty far in that would a little more than dreadful. Yep, I was thinking of having some of them make cameo appearances...along with some of the lovely people on this site that I know O:) I don't think it would take too much work--the hard part is deciding if I wanna make portraits for my NPCs. hehe. It's a bad idea but I don't want to give away who's important and who's not. Oh, the difficulties of design...

Ew, why am I so busy? @_@ At least if I've gotten tons of work lately, then it has to let up sometime soon. (It comes in waves...like zombies.)

 

With ten PCs, I obviously can't work on everything at once, and I'm killing myself slowly as is because of it, so I guess it makes the most sense to start with Ariel's story first. As much as I love everyone else's possibly more

 

Also, I need mapping time. I was wondering if you guys had some map advice for large places :) Like, not all on one map. I mean just laying out the maps for a town, or a city, or whatever. Do you draw/sketch out a rough idea first, or do you just map and let it run its course? :o I've been trying to make a sketch for a city, but it seems so...un-city-like.

Generally I start with a rough sketch of the area before deciding on the minutiae, which I get inspiration from real cities and town squares. Most of the main features, e.g. fortified walls or town squares, are sketched first, with more detail.

 

It's really like a puzzle arrangement, and contrary to popular belief, you don't need maps to be too precise or too well arranged to look good - the detail usually does that job for you.

I tried to base my town and city maps off legit maps, but they're so complex and it's not like most people actually ever visit all of them anyway :o It made me hesitant to painstakingly parallax in all these buildings, but I guess if they don't need interiors, they'll just have unopening doorways. (hehehe)

I was thinking about that. But there's some pretty important (errr...really important) stuff that goes on the city streets, and I feel like it would be kinda awkward. O_o It's not just the mapping sizes and time that I'm worried about either! The eventing is killer XD

Looks like Ariel is on hiatus because my focus is currently on Sugar Sweet ^_^ Don't worry though...I'm still planning on continuing this project! It probably just won't get finished until about 20 years later. That's my prediction. Maybe a little more than that :o
