Alt Jack 6 Posted October 13, 2014 Once in a while, I'll get the crazy notion I'm actually good at this and attempt to make a full-body character image, rather than just another bust. I made 4 of them today and tacked on 2 older ones. The full-body bases are from VX.net (credit to the creator) but all 6 characters were made by me. The hardest part was making their clothes from scratch, since the RTP doesn't really have stuff like shoes or pants. I'd like to add stuff like folds and improve the outlines for a more natural look, but I'm bad at that stuff and my laptop doesn't really help. Lemme know what you think, and if you see something of intrigue, drop by my topic in the Resources section for more or just go there and rant some more. nash004 16 Posted October 15, 2014 I really like the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th. But they could use a bit more shading/highlight/folds on their clothing. Do you use mouse as well? The 3rd one and the 5th one seem to have rather short arms. I suggest using guide shapes and looking up references to improve their anatomy. It's hard to do stuff like this, honestly. You were able to capture the basic colors of the RTP.(something I could never do...) I hope you keep making more and improve more, too. Best of luck!
+ Brackev 66 Posted October 17, 2014 You need to be more bold with your shadows and hilights. I seen a tinge of red but I had to lean in to see it. The light color of the skin with darker clothes means the light on the clothes needs to be more light to see it. Make sure that the detail in the clothes match the detail in the face. #6's cape looks jagged on the right edge. I'm not sure if that's from scaling or not. #4's pants look off. The crotch area should be dropped down and more squared off (not so pointy) for that stance. Keep working at it! You are close to a breakthrough!

I don't have a mouse for my laptop; I just use the fingerpad. As for the anatomy, I studied physiotherapy in college, so I know how far off these bodies are. I kind of just had to deal with it when I morphed the busts on and started adding the clothing. As for the RTP colors, the eyedropper tool is your best bet for color consistancy. The cape initially didn't even have that edge; I just put it in hap-hazardly. I wasn't even going to add that one! lol And yes, I hate the crotch area. To be quite honest, I was never that good at adding details and I would've preferred to do this with a pencil. But I'm better at GIMP than I am at drawing characters. + Brackev 66 Posted October 22, 2014 I shed a tear hearing that you are doing art using the fingerpad. In some cases, the artist needs to get better. In others, the tools need to get better. You definately need a better tool. Christmas is near, ask for an early present, and be specific about it.
+ Archeia 160 Posted October 23, 2014 I really like how they look like but I'm bad with words so I hope you don't mind this. It's kinda rushed. :
Alt Jack 6 Posted October 25, 2014 The bases I got from RMVX.net (a.k.a not mine), for a bit of perspective. You can get a lot of material for busts and facesets, but for full body stuff, I found I was generally pretty S.O.L. It's one of the main complaints I have about material supplies (that, and it's hard to find a lot of non-Caucasian characters)
skylord_robert 1 Posted October 25, 2014 These look really good. They in fact look very professional. for the girl with the blond hair and blue jacket. It kind of looks like she is missing an arm to me (It may be just my vision). I was looking at the base and see that she is supposed to have her arm behind her back. Might I suggest if you angle her arm a bit more to show that it is separated from her side. Other than that it looks brilliant. Nice to see some great graphics design. Keep up the good work!

The arm is actually there, it's just hidden behind the fur. I Noticed that when I was doing the layering, but chose to ignore it because I felt that it looked better. Her hand just kind of juts out around the iliac crest and I was kind of dead for ideas by the time I got to her. Come to think of it, I think I might have even erased her hand. lol
