The Crystal Knight: (created with VX ACE - COMMERCIAL)

Kickstarter

Story:

 

 

The humans fought a great war to destroy the crystals and their barriers to open the gate of a hidden world. From that world, a great power would come.

After a great war and slaughtering eachother for the crystals, the last crystal was finally destroyed and opened the hidden world.

What the humans didn't know was, that the "great power" would be the force of demons. Demons flooded the land and slayed the remaining humans.

Only a few remained...

Out of those few people, heroes emerged who drove back the demons. The heroes were using legendary weapons, granted to them by ancient sages.

However, they could not destroy the demon king, for he had become too strong. As a last resort, the sages sacrificed themselves along with the heroes to become new crystals.

And thus, sealing the demon king once again. But the legend has been forgotten, people are losing their faith in the crystals, and as a result the barriers are weakening again.

Will new heroes rise and will they be able to stop the upcoming slaughter? Find out by playing The Crystal Knight!

 

 

Character Bios:

 

 

Main characters:

A knight, who has been promoted to Paladin by the king, for his years of good service. He's always ready to help and protect others, and he always thinks before acting.

His parents died while fighting monsters.

A former paladin and prince to the throne, he gave up his paladin status to focus more on offensive training. True friend and training rival to Duran, he's always up for a good sparring match.

However, his mother died by some unknown disease, and he still blames himself for not being able to save her. Deep inside, he's still raging over her death.

Duran and Karayan found her in the woods when she was still a kid. They took her to the town of Thysaer, and have been protecting her since that day.

She has yet to find out who her parents are.

A ranger who looks carefree, but deeply cares about his friends and those who can't protect themselves. While he loves hunting with his bow, he's also on a quest to discover the truth about the crystals.

It seems he has some ties with the mysterious Phoebe, but he never talks about that.

Unique class changes for every character + choices between class A or B with an unique look and unique skills! (+ Class A changes to C or D, while class B changes to E or F!)

==> SBS + ATB system (Credit goes to Theoallen and Formar) ==> Implemented!

==> Custom made maps, mapping with photoshop parallax ==> Implemented for all exterior maps.

==> Minimap (Credit goes to tomy and Mr.Bubble for translating) ==> Implemented!

==> Crit flash effect (Credit goes to VLue) ==> Implemented and looks amazing!

==> Custom health bars (Credit goes to Woratana and Pacman for the port and Ventwig) ==> Implemented!

==> Custom made music (Credit goes to Julien Hauspie, not everywhere implemented yet ofcourse) ==> all tracks are custom made.

==> LOTS of hidden items, and rewards from NPC's. Also LOTS of npc's each with an unique dialogue! ==> really, search around for nice rewards. (including equipment)

==> CUSTOM MADE BATTLERS ==> Have yet to implement these, but drawing process has begun!

==> Rare encounters that rack in more xp or gold, if you ever get to meet any.

I had about 8hours playtime at The Crystal Knight RPG maker VX.

Due to various reasons, I'm reworking the game at VX Ace. The Demo is finished, but I'll upload (and have done this, see links below), dungeon by dungeon. Currently just finished first class change! (see ingame)

Anything from PRE-"TRIMONAS" (see ingame), is self made, or used from people who allow me to sell the game :), everything after that part is ripped, so it's non commercial.

I can't photoshop/script/sprite/make music myself. I will require help now and then, I've got some people I can depend on, but not for every music track or battler.

I'm going to need some help, so feel free to contact me and help me out :). Edit: We're a 2 man team now, and he's an able photoshopper/musician

I think it's interesting that some humans want to destroy the crystals, even though they prevented demons from destroying humanity. I'd be interested to see why they would want this and not believe that the crystals would protect them.

Thx, it's good to see some feedback here. I'll post more about the storyline here later :). => First I got to rework my VX mapping and get that Demo version up.

Which should be up, in about 2weeks. I want to make it bugfree and grammar/spelling checked before I release it.

Oh this sounds great! For some reason I got a Final fantasy III vibe (Probably just the crystal part though). ;p

 

If I may ask, is the story centered around Duran or all the characters?

Hard to tell, the main character will be Duran, and it will be centered around him and the crystals.

HOWEVER: The other 3 characters also have a well written story and play a major role aswell, especially Karayan (the prince) has a really terrible wave of bad things coming his way, and he's already ready to snap because of what happened to his mother, I'm doing everything I can so that the players will be driven to keep playing because of a good storyline. (Lol here I'm hoping I'm a decent story writer xD)

 

I'll try to explain why I can't answer straightforward to your question:

those 4 characters will all be very important to the plot, and they all got a lot of dialogue, being important in every conversation. However, the central character will be Duran.

Karayan however got a terrible fate.

Lyssa her innocent look at the world might change completely

And Tristan => I'm kinda keeping you in the dark here with this guy.

 

+ For the good guys, there's another very important person which I can't tell about => would be a huge spoiler.

 

As for the bad guys: They won't be just enemies, the important ones got storylines and will be more than just a random encounter.

I see, it's good to see that your characters are really fleshed out; that can make a game really stand out! =)

 

Lyssa seems like a really fun character though, her backstory sounds very interesting.

Thx for the feedback. Yeah It's pretty darn hard to make sure all of them got a good and well written storyline. 

I will probably udate the storylines later on, to give a bit more info.The most important part was: making sure they're 4 different personalities, making sure there are no parents :P, (well except for Karayan, his father is the king of a nearby castle => will make sense in game)

 

As an update: The title screen and game over screen have been included here. Though I like the crystal at the game over screen, I kinda dislike the background, It should be something more dark, maybe with demons or something very sorrowful. Will try to find someone to help me out on that :). Every scene, text line should grip the player emotionally, from playful to despair. I got to keep polishing my writing skills :).

I look forward to seeing how this game will go. It's been a while that I've seen RTP style games and I'm in the mood to play them again. :)

Now that is quite a plot twist were the humans wanted to destroy the crystals lol~ Mhmmm, I like to see where this story is heading!

As for the humans wanting to destroy the crystal:

Humans are all the same, they're blinded by power whenever they get a taste of it, they think: great power will come => I'll be the strongest human ever.

They don't stop to think => maybe that power will be something we can't control, something that destroys the world.

 

And humans don't learn their lesson, that slaughter happened in the past => but now, at the time where the story resolves around Duran, *MOST* have forgotten about the slaughter and all the bad things as it is MANY years later, the ones from the war are already dead by age*.

Let's hope the crisis will be averted before it starts all over again.

Will Duran and his friends be able to stop it?

Or will they fail?

Is something else happening behind the scenes?

What's the reason for people to destroy the crystals, is it because they are ignorant, or do they do it on purpose?

Find out later ;) => Yeah I'm not going to spoil it :P

 

 

I'm amazed at the amount of feedback, I thought this would've stayed silent till the demo, thank you, it means a lot to me, and it drives me to complete the game faster!

Well it's been 4 days since my last post here (though I did *EDIT* the main post)

Some quick updates:

I'll release a gameplay teaser/demo between now and 2 november. Hope you'll enjoy it, and point out any bugs (But I really playtest a LOT, so I'd be dissapointed at myself if there were many bugs)

 

As for some extra stuff I added:

All maps are parallaxed photoshopped! (but retail graphics were used as a basis)

Nearly all custom made music (1 rtp BGM just really blended in great, so why not use it)

RTP monsters => we will however use custom made ones, but progress on this will probably be too slow, so I will probably not include this at the "alpha teaser"

Theoallen his SBS and each main char has it's own custom fighting animations. => this will be improved later on.

bossfights => now this is a hard one. I'll try to give my static boss battler some cool animations with the SBS, but that battler will probably be redrawn and custom made, so I'm not sure how many hours I should put into this. (sorry)

 

+ Some graphics may seem brutal. For that, I'll add the 16+ tag or whatever to the game. Anyone younger plays this at his/her own risk. (will add this very clearly for everyone to see, when I release the teaser.)

As something that was previously made.
I'm expecting this game to be good.

Any flaws from the last game, will be addressed i'm sure.

The Plot is good. A lot of mystery within the crystals.
Hopefully when this is done. I get the honor to play it.

Do note that I made my previous version alone, not commercial and never posted it so I never got feedback.

Now we're a 2man team :), but ofcourse a big thank you to all of you who made this project better/possible.

 

The last map for the teaser has been completed. Aside from some eventing, I only need a few more custom made bgm, which are being created as we speak :).

Just saw this, contrary to popular belief. I must say it looks quite interesting.

Still not too big of a fan of the parallaxing in the screenshots so far; the sharp and round edges make a rather odd, if not off-putting contrast. Your project is not without merit though, the combat systems have potential.

 

I'll download when I have the time.

Hmhh I understand what you're saying about the parallax.

To me it didn't seem weird while playing through this, however, gunslingerjh did talk about redoing those maps, as those were the first maps he did, and that was probably 3 years ago, for the old vx game. I think we'll wait till after the teaser's feedback before reworking those, if people want it changed, we'll have to redo it :).

 

All my other exteriors have also been redone, and they seem Great imo, but I'm not putting them up as they contain spoilers.

And the battle system: it's great for the actors, but I need to polish up the enemy's movements.

Custom made battlers are being drawn, and MAYBE they'll be ready before the release (and thus included)

Edited the main post, there is now a download available. This is more like a teaser of what's coming.

==> Custom made battlers have not yet been included (however, some of them have been drawn and they look great!).

==> Some songs were not yet finished, so I used a beta version of the song.

==> The storyline needs to be reworked, some dialogues may be a bit odd (give feedback here please)

==> Enemy animations have been hastily done, as they need to be reworked when I implement the custom made battlers. No point in spending hours to get this right as it needs to be redone afterwards anyways.

==> In the end, I will (nearly) not be using any of the rtp.

==> I'm aware of one event that needs a bit of polishing, however, please post any feedback on any messed up event. It's only intended that there is 1 event that just screws up a tiny bit (none gamebreaking)

 

That's it :). Btw, the file size will be reduced when I get closer to completing this game. (In terms of: kicking out unneeded files/songs,.... Ofcourse It'll be larger if the game is 8hours long instead of 30mins.)

...I wrote a big text explaining my thoughts on the game, but Tsar moved the topic right when I was going to post it. :( I lost everything...

 

I love the music I've heard so far.  :wub: Also, Lyssa is adorable. There were some grammar errors on the opening and some missing commas, though. The little map on the corner is pretty neat.  :D I also found hilarious how Lyssa commented that Karayan had to be healed all the time, and in my battle, he's the only one who had to be healed.

 

The only real complaint I have is about the random battles. I hate them. Every 5 steps or so, a damn slime attacked me... But that's just a little pet pevee of mine.  ;)

 

And about the dialogue...I think they were talking too fast. Try separating dialogue in windows, like this:

Lyssa: W-What happened here...?

Lyssa: ....this can't be....the villagers...

Lyssa: They turned into undead donuts!

 

In the game, the dialogue is shown all in one window:

Lyssa: W-What happened here...? This can't be, the villagers...They turned into undead donuts!

 

In my opinion, the pace of the dialogue is better in the first example. 

 

I'll be looking forward to the full game. Keep up the great work!  ^_^

Oh meiri, ty, i felt as if it was happening too fast myself, but didn't came up with a solution. Yours is perfect however, i will split up that dialogue.

Yeah my native english speaking gametester, has yet to test my game, so indeed, i may have made some mistakes :(.

I'll look into this. Great that you like her haha xD, I'm really trying to give all of them a good story.

About the random encounters: I'm thinking of reducing how much you need to battle, increase xp gains and money gains to equilise this.

 

But this might be interesting when I've added my custom battlers! Maybe it won't look so boring, as I'm now using the standard overused slimes xd

I'm super sorry that it took me this long to try out the teaser. I had to download my copy of Ace, cause I didn't have it on my current computer.

 

But, I can honestly say that I love it so far. The story flows very nicely, and sets the tone and mood of the story right away.

The characters seem quite filled out and very diverse. Also, the battle system is very clean and the custom animations look great.

There are a few spelling errors, but nothing too noticeable. 

 

There was also something that just looked very jarring to me, which was the double bridges, they looked kinda awkward like that (Probably just me though).

Besides that though, it's really well done. I've really enjoyed playing the teaser.

Ooh, I've been dying to try out Theo's SBS and see what goodies he has! xD The screenie I saw earlier looks really organized and clean as well.

I'll let you know what I think about it after I finished downloading the demo. :)
