Nicke 151 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) I decided to do an actual topic to get some good response and suggestions on how to improve my mapping. Lately I've been working on a game which consists of a large mansion and a few dungeons. To help me get better take a look at the images below and throw in your suggestions what you would do to make it look nice/better. Thanks! HumanNinja 144 Posted October 17, 2014 The mansion pic is too dark for me to see much besides what's right beside the lights. I'd change the floor tile colors to better match the icey atmosphere of the cave. But it's a good looking map Overall.
Nicke 151 Posted October 17, 2014 Thanks for the suggestions and I do agree, the mansion looks a bit too dark and I will fix that. As for the ice cave I do feel the color match it perfectly but I guess I can tone it more blue or what do you mean?
XIX 30 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) I really like the mansion, though i would recommend a shadow script to add more depth to the player. There was a script made for VX a long while back, It made a shadow using the player sprite and darkening it to make a shadow that rotates around the character from the light source. though no one has converted it to ace so it might be a bit difficult to use in ace. Good luck though. Edited October 17, 2014 by crow5derlock

You normally don't see kitchen tile style in a natural ice cave and it does kind of clash with it a little bit. the 2nd picture of the cavern has proper settings of an ice cave; doesn't look like anything there wrong in my opinion. But yeah, the first one, the tiles just stick out too much and just clashes with the natural image.
exzanorxis 1 Posted October 18, 2014 uuuh, I found something like...a little weird. The small torch/candle is creating the same ammount of light as the big fire things. I mean, as the others said before, it looks too dark, so you could try keeping the map as it is and just increase the light range from the bigger torches. (sorry, english isn't my native language)
Nicke 151 Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) @LadyMinerva: Right, I've fixed that now and I actually remade the map a bit so it feels more like a ice cave. Hehe, I used those tiles to break of the ice but I actually found a better way to do it and I think it looks alot better now. @exzanorxis: Thanks, I have been looking over that and reduced the size of the lights so it looks a bit more natural. Update: I have reuploaded a new version of a few screens and added a new one for another cavern. Would appreciate some feedback Edited October 18, 2014 by Nicke

Yeah I think the yellowish tiles would look better if they were a shade of blue, maybe darker than the other floor tiles.
