Howdy all! ^_^ I wanted to share a couple of my maps from a project I'm working on. :) I really like your opinion on if anything is there I need to improve on. Mostly I'm trying to get the right atmosphere and setting. The following screenshots are raw; meaning they are done without lighting or any visual enhancing... very much done on Photoshop. Also I used screenshots/map saver as a base for parallaxing so you might see some strange things such as the grass covering some objects or vice-versa and blue mushrooms which I added as a grid. xD

With all that said and kept in mind, I present thee... the screenies! :)

And here's a screenie with the light effects. I saw Knighterius's screenies of his project and I saw these really nice light effects. So I was tempted to try it myself. :3 I'm still a newbie with the light effects so any tips are greatly appreciated. :)

This one I'm trying to get a Blood Moon feeling but it's still a lot of work to do, such as the lighting in a dark red screen, it is barely visible but it's there. So what do you think as of now? Mind the title I added because I was showing this as a presentation in my classes... :3

More to come soon once I feel like spoiling more of it. xD I still need to show more than just forest maps. :3

My goodness, that was fast! xD Anywho, that is so sweet of you to say that. ^_^ I feel like I'm missing something so I'll see what others have to say. :3 And don't worry like I said in that PM. I have a lot more of where this came from... xD

Oh my goddess! Your maps are just...gorgeous! They've evolved from just plain ol' mapping to genuine artwork. How I wish I could hire you to map for my project. I'd die in 8th, 9th, and 10th heaven. XD

Seriously, you are like the Indrah of parallax mapping. (If you don't know who Indrah is, she's a masterful RTP mapper. AlliedG's game will have her maps in it; I'm pretty sure she does everything in the engine, too. Which baffles me even more.)

The only kink I personally see has less to do with you and more to do with the scripts/engine; the blood moon's screenie seems a tad dark to me. I'm using light effects in my game too, and it's very difficult to actually show the glows on anything paler, so I understand if it's that way for effect. I've been trying (and failing) to find an in between setting.

Other than that...bravo, my dear! These are dazzling! I've no clue how you managed to do it. (♥Q♥ ) ~♪

Okay, okay...there is something annoying me and it's the waterfall..that's it...just the waterfall DX. It's like gushing water from where there is land and it's like annoying me  but that is just me being nit picky so don't worry!

Like there is something...but idk what it is....

Hehe I'm always quick! :D ^~^

Ooh I'll have to see her maps or maybe I'll see the game of AlliedG's, who knows? I might get some inspiration. :3

Thankies Allusion! ^_^ Yes, the lighting of the blood moon is a little too dark and I barely see the light effects. I'll have to adjust the shading a bit to be able to see it. I'll have to tinker with it to be dark and light at the same time. Other than that, your comment makes me happy everytime I see it... xD

Hmmm I think it's because I'm not using the right water tile for the waterfall because it's not really attached to the upper river. Now that you mentioned it. Alright then, I'll have to improve the water tiles a bit so that it looks right... :3 Thanks for pointing that it Knighty! :) Well I also think that it's because you don't see a large waterfall in a small lake or river so I see it as a little perspective issue. I'll have to tinker with the waterfall to see if I can get the right tiles.

YUSSSSSSSSSS SCREENIES SCREENIES SCREENIES :D

Wow...these are so beautifulicious!~~ <3 I love the little reflections/visible bits of plants on the water too. They're so pretty and it makes it look all the more realistic and the water appears so clear that way :3

The assortment of trees really spices it up. And the tufties of grass and the flowers (and blue mushrooms hehe) make it all the more unique! I love the pink cherry trees. Those are so cayuuuute teehee ^-^

Great work as always and keep it up!~ ^-^

Ah, got idea.

How about animals? You know, frog, butterfly, goose, or bird? Seems a forest need that.

I mean, for "the right atmosphere/setting".

Not as enemy, but just decoration-eh, animals.

Well, but I guess that is "eventing", not "mapping". ^^ .

Oh, about mapping: a chair near the lake (spoiler pic 2)? Or maybe that is also perspective issue (so there is a reason there are no chairs near the lake)?

Well.... Let me say that The Road of Reconsideration is not exactly a place where you want to sit down or have small animals around. xD I can tell you why but I'll keep it hush hush until I get the demo out. :) All I can say is that The Touhou World is a little darker than you think...

Edit: Actually if you guys like to spoil yourself, here is a little screenie at what I'm hinting at... This little place also has a little reference to something...

That...screen cap....

....I swear you have magical Parallaxing powers. You got it from a Touhou card, didn't you? And now to repay them, they've forced you to use your new Map Goddess powers for them! I've finally figured it out! ;)

Lol, no but seriously, you have an incredible eye for this. If you ever get to a point where you're comfortable working with sets for other people, I'm sure many would pay great money to have you as the mapper of their team.  :D

Yeah, Indrah's style is simplistic, but she's just very good at knowing where to spice things up a bit! Mapping like that is a talent, lol! You two just have that knack~ I am dying to see more from you, Minerva! Keep it up! I'm so excited for this!

The spell cards does many wonders to those who follow the way of the Touhou world... xD

Anywho I might, I might. :) My project is first so it'll have to wait before I could do something like that. :3 But I'll admit there are times when I feel like doing mapping for other people. But I mostly do Japanese theme maps, not too much on the general RPG mapping everyone uses... xD

I like the maps.

Will Sanae be in there? lol

Sanae eh? I really love her as well! ^^ Well, I'll more likely add more Touhou characters in the Lunatic Mode update, As much as I like to add more, I kind of have a lot of work to do with the current 14 I have in the demo right now, so it won't be for a while I'm afraid... I'll put her as an NPC character for now since some people are eager to play my demo out without delays. :3

Oh! Those look beautiful! I like the atmosphere you've chosen, it really sets the tone and the look for your game. ^^

Your also really, really great at parallax mapping! I've always wanted to try it, but it looks hard to do. ^^;

- Can't wait to see more. =)

Thank you so much! :3 It's not as hard as it looks, it's only tedious because you very much place layers onto the map itself basically. :) This one I'm doing is basic RTP parallaxing which very much all you have to is add trees and spice things up with more visuals that you can't do on the game editor. I do have a little tutorial blog on this type of parallaxing. You're welcome to check it out anytime!

Anywho, here is another screenie but showing a building (you're probably like "finally!" xD) I'm still experimenting with the current tilesets I used to make the building, let me know what you think! :)

Hmm.. the main road (left side) seems far enough from the graveyard building: could player see it from the main road? Since the main road separated with the graveyard building's entrance.

Or maybe, there should be a sign, "Gravekeeper: go east", on the main road.

Or.. graveyard building is a secret place?

The building tileset is fit. ^^ .

You can. :) But it varies if the player chooses to explore or not. Half the fun is to see what the creator has in store. You'll see once I release the demo out. One puzzle piece at a time... xD

Woah ho ho! That latest screenshot looks snazzy! The gravekeeper looks a little out of place but that is me being nitpicky! :D Looks great :D

I've gotten some more inspiration from a lot of people here with their screenies! ^^ Because of that, now I'm more careful at where I place layers on the map~

This once is a Forest of magic 'Map' which I revamped 3 times already, but I look at the maps when I first started parallax and I'm like, "I can do better!" So here is the final result. :3 I'm still thinking what should I add on that little green patches around the forest. Any ideas? :)

The more screenies I see from other people, the more I get inspired to try it myself~ :D So I wanted to try out some fog overlays for the maps and I kind of really like how it turns out! :3 There are 2 that I like but I'm not sure which one looks correct, the "leaf" looks really nice for a forest theme, but it looks like the trees are over the overlay. The "cloud" is a standard one so nothing to say for this one. Should I choose the leaf or cloud?
