Hello everyone, and welcome to my new game's topic page. Today, I'm going to be showing off the project I have been working on for the past few weeks. Some of you may recognize the familiar title, and yes, you are right; this is a revamp of my old project that I scrapped due to a critically game-breaking error that did not allow me to move forward with the progression of the game. All of the characters, battle style and semantics, plots, and settings have stayed the same, however, some mechanic are arbitrarily different this time around than last time. Without further ado, let's get right into it!

Story:

"When I woke up, you were the first person I saw. The rest of my life is a blank. A never-ending fog. That was all before I met you. I don't even know who I am or where I came from. But that all changed after I opened my eyes. When I woke up, you were the first person I saw..."

Dawn of Eve takes place on the world of Foria, a backwards society that has no real technology. For some unexplained phenomena, the world of Foria is always littered with an abundance of snow, which has led Foria to it's nickname "The Snowy Paradise". In the farthest region of Foria, a small village of Tharelta has been the site of numerous mining and digging operations, which has awoken the nearby monsters from their slumber. This effectively scares off the excavation team and they call in for help. Kaito, a wandering archaeologist from the region of Veliter, investigates the cause of the uprising in monsters. One day, while Kaito is at home, a small earthquake shakes the ground near Tharelta, causing a state of panic among the miners and townsfolk. Kaito goes to investigate the mines. In the deepest parts of the mine, Kaito finds something that can only be described as a faraway foreign object, and the body of a small girl laying next to the object. After examining the girl, she wakes up, and addresses Kaito. She explains that she has no memory of her past and that she has no idea who she is or where she came from. As such, Kaito feels the need to protect her, despite the girl's obstinate and stubborn attitude, and they quickly get out of the mines. But how will Kaito fare with this newfound discovery of alien technology, and the ability to protect this girl that he doesn't even know about?

Gameplay:

Dawn of Eve places a lot more emphasis on plot and character development than combat and exploration. Players of the game will be entranced in a world of happiness, sadness, mistakes, and confusion. However, the game isn't without some of it's exclusive features.

---Side View Battle System due in part by Yami Symphony Engine.

---Emotion System that makes you think about the choices and consequences you will have to make.

---Choose how you want to develop your characters with skill trees (not yet implemented).

---A completely original music, featuring music from satoc and other Japanese RPG Maker sites.

---Side Quests. Loooooooots of Side Quests.

--Momentum system that rewards you specific bonuses if you get it high enough. Similar to Star Ocean's Chain Battle System!

--The better you do in combat, the better spoils you get!

Characters:

Kaito:

99f0fd93b5.png

Age: 21

Fighting Style: Twin Swords

Gender: Male

Quote: "I don't really mind doing this for the pay, but what's in it for the other guy?"

Bio: Kaito is a pessimistic character, usually not fond of small talk, and is always down to business. Since coming to Tharelta, he's always been under the clutches and reigns of his younger step-sister, Viedria, who leads the archaeologist team that Kaito is a part of. Shallow and dense sometimes, he acts on impulse rather than logic, which has more often than not worked out for him, considering his combat style. He wants to always maintain a resolute form, and never wants to show weakness to anyone.

Eve:

f2f2c01e88.png

Age: Unknown (looks to be about 16, maybe even younger)

Fighting Style: Grimoires, Rods, and Staves

Gender: Female

Quote: "I don't even know who I am, but I guess none of that matters if I'm with you."

Bio: Not much is known about this little girl, other than the fact that she was a castaway on some spaceship that crash landed on Foria. She has a very quiet, but stubborn personality. She often tends to repeat herself, and she can become incredibly shy at any given opportunity. Eve is the trademark of a scientific experiment, which was abandoned for some time, but has recently started up again. He is an excellent manipulator of magic, and the magic air of Foria makes her that much more adept at casting magic.

Viedria:

d7a2ec5a3e.png

Age: 19

Fighting Style: Bow and Arrow, Rapier

Gender: Female

Quote: "Come on and say it~! Who's the cutest, bestest biggest step-sister in the whole whole wide world~?"

Bio: Viedria is the leader of an archaeologist team that bases its operations in Veliter, one of the largest cities on Foria. She has a rather obnoxious personality, and is always picking on her step-brother (even though she's smaller than he is). After Kaito left for Tharelta, she has been "experimenting" with men to see what kind of reaction spurs up the most interest. A bit eccentric, she has always found her behaviour to be uplifting to some people. Adept with ranged combat, she is very flexible and skilled with taking shots that no one else could, in more ways than one.

Seven:

29db6fd0cb.png

Age: Unknown (looks to be about 18)

Fighting Style: Daggers and Magic

Gender: Male

Quote: "I am God's gift, his own creation. I was tasked with being his most significant possession! He created all within Seven days!"

Bio: Seven is the leader of an experimental project which replicates clones of himself through some unknown process of genetics. Seven believes he is self-righteous, as he has forsaken his friends and life to be able to build the perfect family, the one his father and mother could never give him. Seven works tirelessly day and night creating an artificial clone of his family so that he can finally find happiness in life again.

I'm strangely and happily excited for this game. I love your choice in characters! ^~^ and that cool "choose what you say" or the "emotion system" as you referred to it makes so many cool variables ^~^ I can't wait to see more :)

However, in the homes the rpg maker shade is a little weird and looks out of place. Other than that I'm looking forward to it! ^~^ Woop woop!

Awww, thank you both for the nice comments. <3 I will admit, the shadow was a dumb idea on my part; I wanted to try and be different and flip the shadows around, but this will be fixed when the demo comes out. Which, hopefully, will be sometime in the next one or two weeks. (And don't worry, I promise you won't be old by then.)

~~UPDATE TIME!~~

So, I haven't been working on this project for a while, since I'm still waiting to get some artwork done, but I figured I'd show/spoil everyone the new portraits of Kaito and Eve! Be sure to congratulate Allusion on her contribution to the project that I know a lot of you are probably looking forward to playing.

I'm also waiting for most of my feedback to come along, but I haven't received much, so to everyone that wants to beta-test the game, don't be afraid to shoot me a message. The project so far is only about an hour long if you talk to everyone and do every Side Quest at the moment, so you don't have to spend too much time on it, which is a good thing!

Looks interesting. I particularly like the momentum system idea that rewards the player with better drops for continuous battle victories.

One minor thing I noticed while reading the character profiles is that Viedria is supposed to be Kaito's older step-sister, yet his age is listed at 21 and hers at 19.

Derp. >_<

Fixed this.

It's not actually continuous battle victories, just how long you can keep the fight going. If it was continuous.....I think I'd have to redo the entire system all together, because it would be beyond broken at that point...

This game is really starting to look better and better! It's got a few very interesting features already.

Like the emote system, I should have thought of that rather than showing what the main character was going to say in advance...

Ah well! I'll follow this thread and definitely check it out when the demo is released!

Does this game feature a screen width and height by 640 by 480? Because it seems like it ^~^ I love big screens!...

But the game has such a massive file size from what I saw when I was going to beta test...>.> I dunno what I'm gonna do

Yes it does~ I can't stand the default resolution and so I always bump it up to 640x480.

Sorry, it's because I use a lot of animation sheets, which might be a contributing factor for the massive filesize. I'll see if I can get rid of some in the next release, since I don't need that many, really.  I'm 100% sure it's the animation sheets, because all of my music is pretty small in comparison, so I'll do some tweaking. Just for you, Knighty~

While I'm here, I might as well put a progress update on the game: I'm still only 2 hours into the game, which is hardly enough for a demo, however I'm having one of my testers playing the game at the moment and giving me feedback as she goes along. Story has been developing quite nicely and I'm glad to be able to share this experience with everyone. I hope everyone has as much fun playing the game and experiencing the story as I have. It's been a real uphill climb to get to where I am today, but I can say that I'm proud of my work and doing what I'm doing. Just as soon as I find a good place to stop the demo (like, right at a cliffhanger or after a tense point), I'll get it out as soon as possible. I promise guys. :D

Yay! I'm a fan of the larger size too! And it also fits the Kaduki busts in them, (the smaller screen cuts them off)

Woo! Aww, I'm honored, thank you so much! Because I really enjoy looking at this game. x) Also, if you ever decide to use Theo's battle system and need some help making move battle animations for it just give me a holler because I'd love to help this game any way I can. But as I know you're using Yami, I know I can't xD

haha.

Keep up the amazing work!

Awesome, thank you very much! I actually do have a public demo ready to go, but I haven't had the chance to export it or get it working. I've been dealing with a bunch of other projects lately and just haven't had the time to sit down and focus on Dawn of Eve, for the most part.

EDIT: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iqlo34u13y63dma/Dawn%20of%20Eve.exe?dl=0 Here you guys go! And since this now officially has a Demo, can I ask that it be moved to the Gaming Lounge?

I really like the artwork in your project so far :)

Hey I was playing your demo and encountered a fatal error:

I think I may know what error this is, but can you give any more specifics? Like when and where the error exactly occured?

I just beat the 'Mother Dryad' boss creature in Calhoun(?) and was about to go into the cave when it crashed.

If it deals with Window_Selectable, it must have something to do with you opening up the menu and fiddling with something. That kind of crash doesn't happen when you transfer to and from maps.

Alright, I played, um... an hour, maybe? I forget... into the Dawn of Eve. I ran into a few problems and weird things, so I'll get them out of the way first:

> According to the description, Ice Bolt can inflict Burn, which doesn't seem right.

> Eve leveled up to 4 after the golem fight, but then went right back to level 1 afterward.

> Some animations are very hard to see on lighter backdrops. Especially the snowy one.

> When Mother Dryad spawns a Dryad, it says the attempt failed, but the Dryad appears anyway.

> The game got stuck in Relhall (I think that's the name, anyway), during the cutscene at night. After Kaito says "I'm just trying to wrap my head around things," Eve looks away, and then... nothing. Can't move, can't open the menu. The horses were still moving in the corner, so I think something tried to move somewhere it couldn't, and the game didn't like that.

So that's where I stopped, since I hadn't saved for a while.

I like it so far. Mapping's pretty good, and any errors with it were purely the fault of the engine itself. The writing is good, and the only typos I can remember were with punctuation, like misplaced apostrophes, but it's nothing major. Combat is fast and fluid, the momentum system is pretty cool, and, as usual, Allusion's art is very lovely. Kaito complains a lot, and that gets annoying pretty quick, but I'm expecting big changes in his character, so I'll let that slide. All in all, Dawn of Eve has a lot of potential. Everything you're doing right, you're really doing right. Keep up this pace, and you'll have made something great, Arin.

Thank you, Spooky! <3 All of these fixes have been made, except for the part with Eve switching levels. Because I'm using two different actors (one before you know her name (hence why her name is "???") and one after), it becomes very difficult in knowing exactly how to fix the level problem. But I think I've done it.

And to Twisted Warlok, try the fight again, but make sure the Mother Dryad is the last thing to die. If that doesn't solve it, then I will know what the problem is. Either way, just try it and test it out.

Couldn't you just use the "Change Name" event command to change ??? to Eve after the battle? Or give nameless Eve no experience for that battle? It's just a little strange and confusing when the game says a character made progress, but they actually didn't.
