LMMS - open source alternative to FL Studio

Recommended Posts

Now LMMS stands for Linux MultiMedia Studio, but it has Windows version as well. It is a free alternative to software like FL Studio (formerly FruityLoops) and has all features you could possibly need in such software, including support for VST and LADSPA.

Here's one tune made with LMMS. It is obviously electronic/techno and not too well suited for game in RPG Maker, but since LMMS is just a music program it can be used to make some more appropriate music.

Oh gods, I downloaded this, but from the looks of it, I am going to have to completely alter my workflow process...FL Studio I have my method that works for me, but this.... oh gods, why? :P

awwww, the only problem I have so far, is that I can't import my fruity loops files to this! but I guess I could export waves of each pattern, right? It does allow me to load samples?

You can export your .flp to midi and load them to LMMS. At least, It should do the trick I guess.

I recommend this. Very simple, open, and functional. I use it for most of my game music.

I kinda like to use it, But I am new to LMMS and music making. And I notice I need a Soundfont file or something to play midi files. Can anyone recommend me to one that is useful?

I've used it for about 6 months now. Great for electronic music, and being open source you can import your own samples and soundfonts. In the editing department though, it's not very good. I recommend using it alongside another music program like FL Studio (haven't tried it yet).

I've just gotten FL Studio back. I was very excited when I found out about LMMS through this thread, and I wasn't completely disappointed. It's beautiful for a free program and doesn't have the full blown open-source feel that Audacity has. But it was difficult to figure out in the beginning. In that way it was like FL. lol years ago I bought it and didn't use it for 2 years because I didn't get it ><

Tbh the song you showed us seems like awesome action/battle music for a sci-fi game.
