Monster Girl Animated Battler (Holder Style)

Recommended Posts

I just started creating sprites to help my friend out in her game. I've yet to install the scripts for RPG maker so I can test them myself (I'll get her to help me on that later). I started out with a Ghoul and I worked on it for about 2-3 days (maybe 16 hours total) and I'd like some opinions on it since I'm very new to making sprites (but not drawing, it used to be a hobby of mine). Is there a guide sheet I can use as a layer to know where to place the sprites more accurately?: And please let me know what I can do to improve on these. I know there are some proportion issues too. It's a very rushed sheet but I'll go back on it to see what can be done to make it better.  :)

I'm working on a Ghost Monster girl now though her hair is giving me some trouble! (Missing animations were not needed in the game yet so there are blank rows)

And while I'm here and struggling with the ghost girl's hair, I'll post up the face I made for her.

Update:

Here's the first pass on the full body sprite (minus ghostly swirls in the background). I'd like to adjust the outline on the hair a bit and I'm not 100% happy about the frills on her skirt. Let me know if you spot anything wrong with it!

The ghoul sprites are made very nicely, Dragon. The only suggestion I can make is to work on the hair's shape and shading a little bit. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, either. Here, I made an example. It's the one on the right:

All I did to the sprite was change a few outline pixels in the hair and touched up the shading a bit, especially at the top of her hair.

I can't think of anything to point out, aside from that. It's a solid sheet, Dragon.

EDIT: Oh, and here's the guide sheet you asked for. Don't mind the stuff at the bottom; I just whipped this up quick.

Your sprites don't quite fit the guide. There are a lot that are off-center, and some of the larger sprites, like the second frame of the attack animation, are stuck between the squares. I've taken the liberty of fixing them for you. Hope you don't mind.

Thanks a lot! For the shading I was just following what I saw on the original image, but at least I have a good idea on how to make it better. I was pretty set on trying to follow a specific style just so I wouldn't go off tangent while trying to get the sheet done. The guidelines are great! I just placed the sprites over an existing sprite sheet and you can see how it turned out. I appreciate the feedback a lot. I'm trying some new styles with the ghost girl and using more colors for shading. If it turns out good I'll apply some of that and what you told me on the ghoul sheet.  :)
